  • A look into how we weaned the foals from this year, as well as some answers to commonly asked weaning questions.
    .
These foals are all between 4-5 months old. You can wean them as early as 3 months, but with all of their moms being pregnant, as well as going into winter, we decided to wean them now.
    .
It helped that these foals were able to be together, so they didn't have to go through the process alone. By the 6th day, they were no longer crying for their moms.
    .
The mares will still be producing milk up until about 2-3 weeks, and if we were to turn the foals out with them, they might start producing again. We'll wait about 2 months just to be safe.
    .

Doing this for this first time with our Wicca and her baby aurora it about killed me cause not only did she scream for the baby and the baby scream for her pur horse John and the other female pumpkin all screamed for her too and she screamed and cried.for them it was so crazy and so loud for a little over 3 weeks actually it was seriously crazy so many times I just wanted to put her back in there with her mama John and pumpkin lol but I didn't and it all stopped and I put her back out there once Wicca was dried up after that 5th week and they done great she never even tried to get milk from her mama again and they done so well .......
