  • In this tutorial video, I'll show you how to do a dolly zoom or vertigo effect. There are a few different ways to do it and you can either do it in-camera with a zoom lens or fake it in an editing program. Faking it is actually super easy but the in-camera dolly zoom just looks a tad better. You can do it in Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro X...

    Doing this shot when it's 38 degrees Celsius is tough!! 😓 Not so much with the drone, though 😉
    Thanks for watching! 🙏

    I almost never put thumbs up on videos but this one was just plain perfect. Simple but has everything you need. Love it, nice job 👍

    Thank you. This was the best explanation of all the dolly zoom/vertigo effects of all the tutorials online.

    Loved the trick of tilting the shot whilst doing the dolly zoom in the editing software. Will remember that trick on a dolly zoom shot I may be doing in the next 2 weeks. Thanks.

    Love it Joris! I will go with faking method in post coz it seems easier. Awesome tips and thanks for sharing Bro! 👊😎

      You bet! It's definitely easier. Handheld without a gimbal or dolly rails 😂 is tough! Had to try it 50 times to get a smooth shot but like I said, a smooth zoom ring makes it a bit easier... but yeah, faking it looks good too 😊👊🏻

    something else: when right clicking the video, and then selecting "stats for nerds" we can see the codec youtube used to convert your video is vp09, whereas for my videos it is avc1. I believe vp09 is the better codec. How do you manage to get vp09? i upload 24fps 1080p with canon m50 thanks

    • @JorisHermans
      @JorisHermans  Před 3 lety +2

      Ha, yeah! 😉 Little trick from Peter McKinnon and some other guys. Shoo in 1080p and blow up the footage to 2K or 4K when rendering. Then CZcams is forced too use the vp09 codec and the quality will be better. Downside is that it takes double or triple the time to render, upload and process.

    Hi
    I'm wanting to film an actor walking towards a 3d object in blender (to then put footage on a plane)
    How to do this?
    Am I overthinking things?
    I want to have a full body shot of someone walking towards the camera. To then increase distance whilst staying in frame?

  • @GianmarcoFochetti
    @GianmarcoFochetti Před 3 lety +2

    I've tried it once but I made the mistake to use manual focus (i thought it was the best way, I was obviously wrong hehehe). I'll try it again, even though the most viable way for me, especially while travelling, would be to do it manually with the zoom ring. I use Tamron lenses and the ring is pretty smooth... let's see how it goes!

    • @JorisHermans
      @JorisHermans  Před 3 lety +1

      Short distances is definitely doable manually and handheld but it looks so cool if you can do it over the whole zoom range... 😊 let me know how it goes! 👊🏻

    • @JorisHermans
      @JorisHermans  Před 3 lety +1

      Photoshop > Filter > Blur > Radial Blur > Zoom 👌🏻

  • @shzammpatapon9865

    how do you do it with the kit lens, it does not have constant aperture, do you use nd filter or aperture priority mode?

    • @JorisHermans
      @JorisHermans  Před 3 lety

      Manual mode and aperture @ f/6.3 because then it stays 6.3 over the entire zoom range...

    U dont have to fake it with drone - u can fly away and zoom in in the same time :) even on mini 2. Less post to do :)

    For the drone, if the shot is at human height, you can just start recording and hold drone in your hand, without starting the motors, off course 😉
