  • I've entered the fray with my top 20 or so psych records. They are based on albums I return to on a regular basis. My number one might not even be in your top 20 but that is part of the fun. Let me know what you think. Hope you enjoy.

      Cheers, I've really enjoyed watching the lists people have put together and I'm busy saving for some of the recommendations. The Floyd were a completely different band when Syd left and I often wonder what they would've sounded like if Syd was well and still there. Hope you have a good weekend.

    Really enjoyed this. I love so many of the records. The Buffalo Springfield was a record I played constantly. The Zombies album is one of the greatest albums of that era. Not it is seen that way. Rollingstone magazine thought it was just o.k. to the extent that they reviewed it along with another album they thought was just ok. A 2 albums in 1 review. The other album? The Moody Blues Days of Future Past. I never forgot that review because it was so off to me.

    • @psychinthevalleys5324
      @psychinthevalleys5324  Před 2 lety

      Hi Verne, the Zombies album is definitely one of the best albums of the 60s. Every song is great but my favourite is Hung Up On A Dream. Just brilliant. Some beautiful moments on Buffalo Springfield as well. How I wish there was a good live recording of them. Crazy for a band that played so much in such a short time that there is not. I have a couple of rough live recordings but that is it.

    Fantastic! When you had Chocolate Watch Band at number 20 I knew we were in for some real goodies. :) You had a nice mix of "mainstream" and obscure here too. I would give the nod to Easter Everywhere over the debut, too. Both are great but Easter Everywhere just edges it out for me. Phenomenal choices all around! Loved seeing your picks!

    Great choices, for me It is not possible to do a Ranking of my psych-stuff, I told this at the 1. Part of my Psych-Videos, but I think a lot of your Top 20 could match with my Top 20. Pink Floyd, The Doors and also The Stones (TSMR) would be for sure in my Top Ten. It does not always need to be a rar Band or Album.... 😎 but the pleasure comes with the discovering of never seen or heard of new stuff. And absolutely this is it, what the VC keeps alive. That Zombies Lp is their most unique one and every song on it is a gem.
    Baragangle by Donovan and Tom Rapp s PBS LPs are all deserving of a mention.
    Then these s the many fine Spirit LPs. Here is the clincher to me though John Simon"s
    first WB lp and his second entitled Journey fit nicely into this medium as well.
    Hot Rats by Zappa is a must have for any Psych collection too.
    Ultimate Spinach s first 2 lps and County Joe and the Fish had quite a few others worth a spin but
    then you mentioned at least one of many of these artists in your presentation.

    I love that Donovan record. So good! I was going to put this or Barabajagal in my list. EP!!!! Heck yeah! Again by Buffalo Springfield almost made my top 11 of all time. Honorable mention if you will. Web of Sound is a bit garage feeling but not as much as their debut. You know, that Country Joe record gets overlooked, but man oh man, what a psych gem. Donovan is very underrated here in the US too - his albums are cheap. Thanks for mentioning the Family album - very underrated. I will never understand why Love was not immensely popular. Excellent list and T-shirt. I would have included S.F. Sorrow, but overall a terrific list.

    Donovan was very big in the US. Much bigger here than in the UK. It's A beautiful Day is a great album but what really hurt the band was that they took so long to release their album. If I had Their Satanic Majesties Request on vinyl it would be number four on my list. Right behind The Piper at the Gates Of Dawn. Their Satanic Majesties Request is full of great songs and two that suck. Strictly Personal the 2nd album by Captain Beefheart is very psychedelic. I love Time Of The Season but was quite let down when I finally heard the rest of the album.

      Donovan much bigger in the US than in the UK? Admittedly his success as an albums artist lasted longer in the US, but in the period 1965 - 1968 he was a household name in the UK and had seven top 10 single hits, while in the USA he had only four in the same period.

In fact most of what you said about this one was hard to understand. This is intended to be constructive criticism so please don’t get defensive. You might also want to consider getting a better mic and using compression.
