    One way to save. I take my bread ends through out the year and put them in a zip lock bag up in the freezer. By the time Thanksgiving comes I have plenty saved for stuffing to make from scratch.

    This is my first time watching. I am absolutely impressed by your beautiful girls. They are so great at being in front of the camera, and so adept at cooking at such a young age - you’re raising them to be naturals in the kitchen! So many videos'll add up the cost per serving instead of the total amount of money you actually have to spend. You can use evaporated milk for your potatoes. 1/2 cup evap, 1/2 c water, or if you want really rich & creamy potatoes, use all evaporated milk.

    I think this video had a lot of what I'd have loved to teach people: taking the time to be frugal, plan/calculate n shop carefully, cook very well, n enjoy your meal. Especially i was astounded you kept to script, rolled your trolley, calculated every cent comparing prices n choosing to walk out with a lone orange from the first store! Even more that you actually showed the recipes. The spread was awesome. Your daughters were gorgeous n came across as pretty professional. Lotsa love to your lovely family.

    What a great job! I remember last year's meal and this one looks just as tasty! If you were truly needing to reduce your costs a whole chicken also works well. This is really good. Some ideas I would like to add if that’s ok….
    I have in the past bought and froze or hid one or two things or two months leading up to a holiday.
    To save on the turkey, I have roasted a chicken or a turkey breast instead. One could also ch check the price on ham.
    If someone is baking challenged, they could get pumpkin and cake mix and do pumpkin cake.
    Again , this is good stuff! I had fun watching

  • @beckystone7994
    @beckystone7994 Před 6 měsíci +1

    This is the first time I’ve seen your page, I really enjoyed watching you shop to save money and you did a great job! I wanted to let you know you can make whole milk using 1 can if evaporated milk and mix it with 1&1/2 cans of water ( use can to measure ) 2% milk would be 1 can evap. Milk snd 2 cans of water ! My momma taught me this I’m 73 yrs old and have used this milk tip all my life and always keto extra cans of evap. Milk in my pantry just for when I need milk because I don’t drink milk !! You can also use frozen French fries to make mashed potatoes just boil them until tender ( about 10-15 minutes from frozen ) and mash them up and use your butter and milk , S&P and delicious mashed potatoes , also when your short on butter make up the difference with oil your food will have the butter flavor and you’ll have the amount of butter/oil you need for your recipe , I do it all the time ti save on butter since butter along with everything else has become so expensive ! I love you that you include your children when cooking they learn to love cooking and they make memories with you in the kitchen ! Y’all made a delicious budget friendly meal all homemade with love !! I hope y’all have a blessed Thsnksgiving surrounded by loved ones!! God bless 🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈

      Yeah... understandably some folks in larger cities would have a harder time visiting multiple locations but it's not a problem for us. Actually the gentleman that left his quarter in the shopping cart at Aldi would have covered our gas if we had taken it LOL... but we left it for the next customer. Thanks for watching!

    Awesome! I'm brand-new to your channel, and so it's great that from the get-go I see what a wonderful family this is! Your daughters are both very skilled in their cooking, so obviously mom has been a perfect example! I kept telling the tv (in my mind, lol) for you to get two cans of evaporated milk, and that way you could have plenty after diluting the 2nd can. But your buy was truly amazing! I've watched twice, and I'm still unclear as to how the turkey got thawed in time.

      @FromtheRootsUp  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thank you so much! Yes, several people have mentioned that I could have used evaporated milk for the potatoes, I will have to remember that for next time! We cooked several days after we got back from the store so the turkey had plenty of time to thaw.

      @@FromtheRootsUp gotcha. I wanted to mention that in my long life of 68 years, and in spite of being raised by a Southern mom, I'm just recently learning about adding chopped hard-boiled eggs to gravy. Another CZcams home cook who I follow (Karen Jones Food and Family) was the first who did this in one of her videos. I bet the egg adds extra richness to the gravy!

      Thankfully we live in a tiny town and all of those stores are right beside each other, if we make the trip into town to shop it’s not much more to go to all three. I did the calculations and we spent an added 11 cents in fuel by going to three stores instead of one. Staying at a single store would have blown our $25 goal, but not by much. (certainly by more than 11 cents tho) It was a fun challenge for us, thanks for watching.

      We use the DJI Wireless mic and it has been one of the best investments into video making we’ve made. It even works great outside in the Oklahoma wind if you put the cover on! amzn.to/47ryeTe

    I mean why don’t you just buy the heavy cream and make your own all you need is a food processor or a blender I just dumped a heavy cream in and turn it on it will eventually turn into butter and then you also have buttermilk so it’s a two for one I don’t know why people think they gotta buy butter already premade when you can make it

    • @FromtheRootsUp
      @FromtheRootsUp  Před 6 měsíci +1

      That's a great resource to have on hand, but our butter and milk were a little over $3 and a large enough carton of heavy cream (yes there would be some left over) would have been $5 and put us over our budget. There were several things we could have done differently, but wanted to just show that a simple classic Thanksgiving meal could be prepared without breaking the bank. Thank you for watching!
