I purchased this comic book when it first was on sale at the store when I was very young. It was a truly epic battle! Every team member had a great part to play in the tussle, and there was no nerfing from the writers. One of the best battle stories in many a decade! Well done!!!
Man, I do love some classic Silver Age Avengers stories. This one is a gem. I love the way the artist drew the characters, and how the story reinforces the idea that is the crux of the Avengers - a group of the world's mightiest heroes banding together to fight the foes no singe hero could handle alone. I feel that each Avenger was booked strongly - even the more street-level guys like Cap and BP were going all-out to try and slow down Nefaria. Thanks, BannerIncredibeHulk! Hope to see more reviews of classic Avengers stories!
Basically, Count Nefaria was Superman if you think about it, it's an Marvel old story I guess about "What If Superman" took on the classic Avengers. Count Nefaria has Superman like powers and is throttling the mighty Avengers until they figure out a way to stop him. This is great story telling right here from the old days!
I remember this. One of my favorites. A true top 10 fight.Byrne was growing celebrity and came full circle when he hit the X-MEN. Great memory mate. Big cheers
One of the best comic stores at that time. I was only eighteen when it was first published but a lot of us were very impressed with the plot, the script and the artwork. Back then we thought that Nefaria's power and presence would be like if Superman was fighting the Avengers. Nefaria stopping Mjölnir sent a chill down our spines back then. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.
This is one of my favorite Avengers stories of all time. I love that this is how Avengers would have defeated Superman, if they ever were to encounter him. Whats fun or maybe controversiall, Kurt Buziek probably had this comic in mind, when he wrote JLA/Avengers and Superman stopped Thor's "magical" hammer. Fun fact also, in the same comic where both teams attack Kronas stronghold, this version of Count Nefaria was going to confront Superman.
In the AVENGERS VS JUSTICE LEAGUE, the fight SUPERMAN vs THOR was similar. Thor vs Nefaria is the source of designer to Superman vs Thor in the crossover of 2003.
I remember this one from back in the day count was whooping everyone they like where is Thor vision was out of commission. Thor showed up at the end ready to stomp but needed visions help in the end great book
I remember this story , I don't mind if they are long , explanation to those who haven't seen as to why wonder man was using caps shield , perhaps an extended video on the Korvac story , one of the best.
Or what if this version of Count Nefaria went against Herald Cosmic Thor who would win? Or Galactus is a better match if it was a hungry or sated Galactus?
@@BannerIncredibleHulkThe hammer is the ultimate plot device. It's been used to drain energy many times, so there's that. There's also seldom used things like the anti-force or the God -Blast although the latter generally takes time to charge up.
Thor is a benevolent hero. As much as some fans don't think about it, Thor looks out for the safety of his fellow teammates and especially mortals on Earth he has always sworn to protect. Thor would have employed the "god blast" from his hammer against Count Nefaria as a last resort if he absolutely had to use it. Thor most certainly would have found a way to probably defeat Count Nefaria 1-on-1. Regardless, Count Nefaria was one of the greatest super powered villains to face the Avengers. His strength level was off the charts.
One of the greatest Avengers stories ever Thor was in all his glory in this one powers on full display.

I liked Count Nefaria so much I was looking to see if anybody made his costume so I was going to be him for Halloween! That's how great he was!
He’s drawn like Dracula in this era.

Joe Fixit’s run with Count Nefaria does remind me of this comic.
Count Nafaria is one of the few marvel supervillains I really love, so powerful, great costume. he is incredible, one on one he is unstoppable

Nefaria should be a much bigger player in Marvel. He should be giving countless heroes a run for their money.
Thanks! It was awesome!
Joe Manganiello as the MCU's version of Count Nefaria would be awesome!
There is another encounter where Mjolnir bounced off Nefaria's body
During 90s
If they made Count Nefaria a hero, picture the sales Marvel would have gone OW, OP,\overwhelming and overpowering in the industry!
A great villain created by Stan Lee.
Count Luchino Nefaria could be a crimelord variant of Nick Fury.
Hype to see him in the MCU.
I miss the old school art work. I new stuff is great also
so that building was empty yeah? holy cow it was three buildings!!! holy shit four buildings!
Great story. Man, they turned Nefaria into a jobber.

Count should have killed some of the avengers just by acident
surprised he not in more cartoons
Man, would've loved to seen the Savage Hulk go up against Nefaria.
GREAT BANNER INCREDIBLE HULK VIDEO EVIL SUPERMAN VS AVENGERS
Classic spinner rack purchase!
If this Count Nefaria incarnation from the classic age went against ODIN who would win?
Or what if this version of Count Nefaria went against Herald Cosmic Thor who would win? Or Galactus is a better match if it was a hungry or sated Galactus?
Good battle. Thor would have eventually found a way to beat him.
Alone? I don't think so.
Thor is beneath Count and Gladiator.
