My cousin had a 76. I had an XS 11 new in 79. We rolled to Florida with trash bags on for rain gear. Sun came out in Kentucky and never rained again. Good bikes.
A few summers ago a renter near me rolled in on one of those and it took me few days to figure out it was a naked Goldwing! The engine is huge what a touring machine!
I have too many bikes now and I'm out of room but the GL is on my hit list of bikes to own - all I need is my own museum...lol
I have one in Black. Love it. 80-90 hp and is fast and fun! 1979 was the last year these were made in Japan.

1976 naked wing. You know what's funny. I had a goldwing that looked just like that. I wonder if that's what I had. It's amazing the videos Ken, some of the bikes you have I've had and when I come across them I'm like holy s*** another one diamond in the rough Ken Kaplan will amaze you. Great video! I tell you how Dependable this bike is my good friend bought this brand new same year same color I went through many of bikes and this is the one he always rode with us R I.P. I have owned every color GL1000 Honda made even had a 1976 LTD with the gold anodized rims,extra chrome, root beer sort of factory color. The yellow is the only color I haven't owned.Not for the lack of trying I just never found the right bike for the right price.I still have some time left I'm 65 now so I have a few more years to find the right yellow GL1000! They are now finally getting the love I have always known they deserve.
Someone would come into our dealership and want to trade their GL in for a new or at least newer bike.Since I was the sales manager I was in charge of appraising the prospective trade ins.That's how I bought all of mine except the LTD. Nobody else at our shop appreciated these great machines except me.Even the mechanics weren't interested so I could get them for a bargain. I have owned at least 5 or 6 over the years and used them as a second bike or to take a trip, whatever. Never had a breakdown or got stranded somewhere. As reliable as a good watch! I have actually seen one with almost 300,000 miles and still going.Great bikes!!

i have a Blue late 1975 UK model , most people dont know it has an emergency kick start !!!! Sulphur yellow is the the best colour though ..
