I also think Wu Lei did a phenomenal job with the facets of his personality, As a general in battle, his personal revenge, the schemer in the palace, and sincerity to the love of his life.

This is the one and only Chinese drama that made me cry ...and that too several times....
Most of the time due to language barrier and since our eyes are always glued to reading the subtites, I lose that emotional contagion...however, this drama completely changed that for me.
I have watched 20+ C dramas but this drama remains at the top of the list for me.
I wanna see the two of them in a modern drama now! ❤
I also get way too caught up in the subtitles to see any nuanced acting or similar. This particular drama spoke to me though and hit me squarely in the feels several times.

Fabulous acting Zhao Lusi she had never disappointed even in her early dramas, only getting better and better.
You can hear not only hurt but fear and sheer disbelief in her voice when she calls his name.
I thought it was the end for Zisheng but I should have known that he'll do whatever it takes to come back to her.

Can't get enough of watching this episode. I just love that they get back together to fight a common enemy.
A really difficult scene to watch but all the actors played their parts so well. You can feel their anquish thinking that he has died in the explosion.

This is the third time I have seen this scene and it still made me cry seeing Shaoshang cry her heart out of the thought of her beloved love being dead. 😢😢😢
Something that I find interesting is this is the first time she admits to herself that she forgives him and "begs" for him to answer ... and then the universe (karma? destiny? ...) steps in and intervenes.
I am a 20+ y/o girl who have absolutely zero experience in love BUT THIS! THIS DRAMA THIS SCENE MAKES ME CRY AS IF I LOST THE LOVE OF MY LIFE! THE FACT THAT THEY BROUGHT OUT THE CHARACTERS ALIVE, ENOUGH FOR ME TO FEEL LIKE I AM IN THEIR SHOES IS SO AMAZING! I HAVE NEVER FEEL SO HEARTBROKEN LIKE THIS FROM WATCHING A DRAMA!! I have watched this scene countless time and it still make me cry and broke my heart. Later i cry again because they finally make up, tears of joy. Such good acting of Ling Bui Yi, Cheng Shao Shang, Ah Fei and Ah Chi.

The realization of him possibly dead made her think how much she actually loved him A Fei was the one who noticed him then everyone else's eyes followed 😒
I loved that A Fei was the first one. The guy's so often just used for comic relief as the "goofy sidekick", it's good that he got this moment :D

I had recently watched watched Leo Wu in Battle Through the Heavens and decided ... hmm ... lets find another period piece with him in it to watch. Talking about hitting the jackpot with LLtG!! This show really spoke to me and I love how Zhao Lusi is able to emote. In this scene she really seemed like someone who had their heart [figuratively] ripped out of their chest. I'm not sure how she injected so much pain / hurt into the scene. The only thing I wish we got would have been an epilogue episode or similar.

"Heart ripped out" is exactly what I would call the scene, it seems like she lost a piece of herself, i think it's by the way she seems to almost be touching her liver ? and falling slowly on her side as if to show that it's "gone". Somehow I don't know how to explain it myself lol but it's very memorable and she managed to induce that pain of loss; she said in an interview that she still doesn't know how to act out loss pain since she hasn't been thru it but this piece def speaks of her abilities

He was emotionally unable to completely love her, he may have been in love with her but he didn't deeply love her because of the scars his parents left on him. All three of them as children longed for their parents love for different reasons (Shaoshang because her parents left her with her grandmother and cruel aunt and she was abused, Zisheng because his parents were taken from him at an early age and Shanjian because his parents didn't love each other and didn't show him any love) but he became bitter towards love and didn't feel he wanted that. His story is sad because he will marry someone that may compliment him and have a mutual respect for each other, if he gets married at all.
@@corondaglasper4236 I always saw this as his moment to change his attitude and truly find a girl to love because he really only loved her mind and fight he did not love her truly he in a lot of ways friend zoned her to he just wanted to have a few benefits but would never have loved her more then as a friend. I always hoped this was the moment he opened himself to more

His parents really made him against true love, this is where him and Shaoshang differed even though she didn't grow up in a loving environment, she really wanted love and was willing to learn how to love. The Empress taught her how to accept love and what true love is

I'll raise a glass to He Zhaojun (and her unborn baby), who was absolutely tough as nails and weathered teak through this entire ordeal. Quite impressive for a sheltered young lady. :D

I'm Caucasian (not that it matters) but I'm so hooked on these shows....this scene has so much meaning mixed with very powerful emotions from every character...in my opinion Asian movies and Dramas are second to none....they are of the highest moral quality and are always thoroughly entertaining. Honestly, "Hollywood" is garbage in comparison.

It was separated into 2 parts cz China broadcasting rule or something like that, didnt allow drama more than 50 eps.
So they make it season 1 (eps 1 - eps 27), season 2 (eps 28 - eps 56).
