    Of course he knew. He also kept in touch with Blood Raven, through the birds. They were related and arrived at the wall together. He probably also spoke with Benjen about him more than once. Benjen knew, and he clearly loved Jon. So it was probably a big family conspiracy to keep him safe and make him a leader.

    Elia and Rhaegar had a son they named Aegon. Elia, due to her delicate health, was bed-ridden for half a year after giving birth to Rhaenys and nearly died giving birth to Aegon, after which the maesters told Rhaegar she would be unable to have any more children.[18]
    Maester Aemon, whom Rhaegar corresponded with via raven messages, remembers that Rhaegar believed his child Aegon to be the prince that was promised.[16]
    Soon afterward, Aegon and Rhaenys were brutally murdered along with their mother by Ser Gregor Clegane during the Sack of King's Landing.[3]
    My theory is Maester Aemon connected the dots of Ned Stark coincidentally having a bastard Son right after his sister Lyanna's Death at the Tower of Joy event and realised that Jon Snow is the promised Prince Aegon, just not Elia Martell's Son but instead Lyanna Starks son.

      He's not gonna be Aegon in the book. Rhaegar's other two kids were still alive when Jon was born. He wouldn't have two Aegons. The show just really fucked up some of the best parts of the story, for no reason. They also changed Asha's name to Yara, because they thought people were too stupid to differentiate between Asha and Osha. They also changed Hodor's original name from Walder to Willas, and the Mountain kept his own identity as a zombie, instead of becoming Robert Strong. It's insulting, really. I think even the simplest of the fans can follow the original names in the story.

      @@vfd8553 yeah, the boy cruising around with Griff is almost definitely fake. But Elia did give birth to a baby boy Aegon. That baby was murdered by the Mountain, though. He was still alive when Lyanna gave birth to Jon. So why would she name him Aegon? Rhaegar's first family wasn't murdered until after the Lannisters had taken King's Landing, which was right at the end of the war. It's possible that could have happened before the Tower of Joy scene, but she still wouldn't have known right away that her step children were dead. So why two Aegons?

    Aemon had to know because when he felt Jon's face he later proclaimed "Egg" which was Aegon's nickname. This shows that Jon and Aegon had physical features very similar to one another.

  • @SapphireOfficialKing
    @SapphireOfficialKing Před 7 lety +107

    Yes, Aemon knew because he would've been the one to switch Jon's identity with the unidentifiable son of Rhaegar.
    "Kill the boy Jon Snow, and let the man, (( )) be born". These are the words Aemon says about Egg, King Aegon V. "Kill the boy, Egg, and the man, King Aegon V, be born"
    Which therefore means "Kill the boy, Jon Snow and let the man, Aegon, be born.
    Jon is therefore AEGON.

    I could imagine that Aemon and Mormont knew about Jon. My theory is, that Benjen got told about it from Ned and he told Aemon. Benjen says to Jon in the first book, that Jon cant know, what he is giving up, when he joins the NW. In the context it seems like Benjen just means that he would never have a woman, but I could likely imagine that he really means it the other way. Also I never could imagine that Ned told NO ONE, that Jon is not his bastard, and benjen was most likely the Person he trusted the most...

    @17Petals1 Před 7 lety +28

    One thing that you didn't mention was that Maester Aemon and Rhaegar Targaryon were close and wrote to one another all the time. It is possible that Rhaegar wrote of Lyanna's pregnancy to his great uncle before he was killed. And Aemon could put two and two together.

    • @serofysofhousegreenslyth2575
      @serofysofhousegreenslyth2575 Před 7 lety +1

      17Petals1 I like to think that Mance is Rhaegar. I know that Mance's face was familiar to the men of the Night's Watch before Rhaegar "died" but maybe the real Mance is dead and Rhaegar has his face. I don't mean that he's one of the Faceless men, but that he is able to change his face with the magic Melisandre has. I mean, why would Melisandre switch Mance's face for Lord of Bones's? Why would she lie to everyone, even Stannis, that Mance is dead, though it was the Lord of the Bones? Why would she hide the real Mance under the false face? She had a motive, obviously. And why would Mance, the man who only fought for the freedom of wildlings and lost, accept some strange faith and kneel before someone? That doesn't make any sense. Rhaegar was obviously pretending to be Mance. I don't know did he really die in the battle of the Trident. Maybe he was resurrected by Thoros of Myr or some other red priest. Then, he escaped north of the Wall, killed Mance (probably from defence since he was an honourable man) and changed his face with the help of magic of Lord of Light. He "deserted" north of the Wall and managed to unite all the wildlings not only to save them, but also to retake the throne that should have been his. He was a born leader and a fierce warrior, of course he would want to be a king. Mance always loved to play the harf, just like Rhaegar did. Why would they put this similarity for no reason? They are obviously foreshadowing Rhaegar's identity. Mance was also very fond of Jon? Why? Because he heard the news of the Tower of Joy. He realised that Ned brought his bastard from Dorne from where he came after Lyanna's death. It was obvious that he lied since he was an honourable man so he wouldn't ever break his vows to Catelyn. Rhaegar was (or is) a smart man, so he realised everything. He was glad that Jon was the one who came to him. He liked him. After he came back to the wildling camp after the battle for the Wall, the real Mance would have killed Jon without thinking twice. But "Mance", actually Rhaegar, didn't want to kill his own son. Now that he failed, he is trying to accomplish what he wants to with the help of Melisandre. I still hope that he's gonna appear in the show. George RR Martin likes to put some character coming from the dead very early to let us know that they're alive, but doesn't write about them for a while so we almost forget them but that's when he brings them back into the centre. In the show, they postpone those same events. For instance, Balon's death. They are doing the same with this. Mance (Rhaegar), following the books, should have been alive in season 5. But he hasn't been seen for a while. That's why they didn't put him still in the show because there wasn't a need for it. They are gonna show him now, probably. Melisandre sent him before on a mission to save Arya. Maybe now he'll be with her in the riverlands trying to save her.

The same storm gods that were able to destroy all those versions of Storm's End that Durran had attempted to build prior to getting Bran the Builder's help. He and the CotF were supposedly capable of weaving in magical protection runes to keep a structure safe from man and god alike... So the question of how, and more importantly who, facilitated in that lowest level of crypt having caved in is quite interesting.

    So, in season 7 it is revealed that one of the maesters married Lyanna and Rhaegar. This was written down in one of the books that Samwell had to transcribe. If Aemon, being a Maester had access to these books, or knew the maester that married Lyanna and Rhaegar, he may very well have known who Jon really was. If he did know, he wasn't going to allude to it knowing that it could put Jon's life in danger.

    I believe Aemon knew that Raeghar annulled his matrimony w Elia and remarried Lyanna. Either by Rhaegar telling him himself since they were close, or because Aemon was a Maester, and had access to the document the other Maester did legitimizing Raeghar's new matrimony. Too many opportunities for Aemon to know, and there was plenty of time as well.

    In the scene when Aemon reveals who he is to Jon, Jon is speaking to Aemon about Eddard and Robs war and says 'he was my father, rob is my brother' Aemon gives a laugh at those words, because he knows the truth that they are not. Rhaegar wrote letters to Aemon and likely informed him of Lyanne being pregnant with his son prior to the battle of the trident. Also as Eddard knew Jon's parentage, he likely trusted Benjan with this information, who when he joined the Watch and became first ranger, could have also discussed this with Aemon.

    Hey gr8 channel n videos..... do enjoy following ur videos. I wud like to bring to ur notice a theory that the "Red Priestess' are mind readers".
    Remember the scene when Mellisandre is trying to reduce Jon from season 5? it wud be pretty obvious that when Jon thought about Yigritte at that moment. I mean he loved her and won't cheat on her even if she is dead. it wud be pretty obvious that Jon thought about her last words "You know nothing, Jon Snow" and that is when Mellisandre read his mind and said the same words to man him believe in her. Also the scene where Kinvara speaks to Varys about magic. It wud again be pretty logical that Varys (when confronted with a magician) wud think about his tryst with black magic and the Red Priestess of Mereen read his thoughts and started provoking him to think more about it. if you see the scene again you might observe how her questions quite sequentially try to make Varys think about the entire incident so that even she may get to know by reading his thoughts. Mellisandre may have read Stannis' thoughts too many a time and therefore she clearly knew what dreams to show him and how to control his thoughts. please look into this theory and try to answer in any of ur videos. I did really hope to see this theory in one of your videos. 😊

    I think in the context of Jon being at Castle Black, it's less about his complicated lineage and more to do with his character. He's proven time and time again the kind of man he is, he has great leadership qualities, he is a fine warrior but hates fighting, he makes strong friendships, becomes allies with enemies whom he grows to respect, protects the vulnerable, brings justice to those who deserve it, and does what is right no matter the personal cost. I do believe Benjen and Maester Aemon knew - Benjen was the Stark in Winterfell when Ned returned from the war with a baby and Lyanna's bones (and Lyanna and Benjen were close as children); and Rhaegar sent ravens to "Uncle Maester" at Castle Black. He knew more than he let on; so did Benjen. What I appreciate is that both men, Benjen and Aemon, made sure Jon Snow earned everything he got at Castle Black.

    Not sure if anyone else has considered this, (I have not read the rest of the comments) but I feel that it is likely that Maester Aemon realized the connection.
    During Robert's War, there was a period where Lyanna was "kidnapped" by Rhaegar. During that time, she would have been pregnant. What are the odds that Rhaegar would have kept that a secret from his own family. Even if he did keep it a relative secret, he most likely would have had a maester assist to ensure the health of Lyanna and his unborn child. That maester probably would have communicated this outcome back to the Citadel, if not Aemon directly as he was Rhaegar's family. Combine that with Aemon knowing the history, as stated in the video, and it is not a huge assumption to make that it could be pieced together.

    It may be possible that Rheagar did tell Aemon he and Lyanna we're expecting, but made him swear to keep it secret in order to protect the baby until the time was right in much the same way Lyanna made Ned swear. Because they are both honorable and loyal men (heck, Aemon turned down the throne because of his vows with the citadel) they kept their oaths without ever knowing someone else knew. However, it is unlikely that Aemon knew Jon was Rheagar's son due to the fact that Rhaegar died at least a month or two before Jon was born and it's obvious that Lyanna never updated Aemon; if she had she would have made sure Ned knew he didn't have to carry the secret alone. Aemon most likely assumed she miscarried since there was never any mention of the baby.
