I discovered them around 25 years ago with this song at 1am driving home from a party. The energy they bring live is fantastic.
The drummer is in the ballpark with Danny Carey. He also is the Sevendust backup singer.
Glad you got to dip into their catalog! They have more albums than Tool, so there is a ton of options with Sevendust.
At least do the song "Praise" in the near future, please please please 🙏
You would love killswitch engage
Sevendust is so underrated, it is sad. Great band, and the guys are amazing people who are always happy to talk to the fans and hang out after the shows.
So true! Had the honor of meeting /hanging with them way back in 99-00... Kindest, chillest dudes ever. Offered me a seat before I realized who they were. Ended up with passes to watch the rest of the bands from back stage just for being chill.
@@NickTheSheep1379 Same happened with me and a few friends. We went to the show, broke and could not get in, but it was a small theater so standing outside you could still easily hear the show. My friends and I went across the street to get drinks at Subway before the show started and the band just happened to come in after us. We all started talking, they found out we did not have the money to get in and they were so nice to us, they took us in with them backstage and got us into the venue for free. Great guys who went far above and beyond for a group of kids they did not even know.
I hung out with Lajon backstage at a show in Tallahassee in the late 90s. He’s a genuinely fantastic dude.
Yes, yes, more Sevendust!
Very true! I've met them after a show. Great guys.
SEVENDUST… a criminally underrated band, I can’t wait for you to delve into the back catalog 🤘🏻
I've seen them live 7 times and can't wait to see them again. One of the best bands that not enough people know of...
ive seen them in concert three times and they bring it every-time!!
@@quinceykirkland1227 went to a Creed concert once just to see Sevendust! They were opening for them, some creed fan spit on him, he stopped the show, and they kicked him out.
David, I wanted to like your comment, but is at 69😂
He's doing exactly that.. this is literally the first song they released
Oh man.. One of my favorite bands. Too Close To Hate, Bitch, Waffle, Trust, Angel's Son, Enemy, Praise, Decay... I can go on and on. Their new single Fence from their upcoming Album Truthkiller absolutely rips too. And yes, they're incredible live.
the new single "fence" ...music video ...is so fn awesome.
You forgot Story of your Life
You'd have to basically name every song....
I was about to say Angel's son. Masterpiece right there.
Yep these songs in this order. Was about to comment this lol.
Lajon is a really cool down to earth guy. Met him in 99 he was so chill. We came 5 hours early and he saw us first and came up to us and offered us beers and even smoked with us. I ended up giving him a ride to a club called trees after the show in Dallas. Coolest guy from a metal band I’ve ever met.
I met him in 2001, he is super chill.
@@quinceykirkland1227 agreed. He saw we were fans and we were at the venue before anyone. He came up up and said hi asked us if we wanted a beer. Got to watch them do sound check and took Lajon and the drummer to Trees after the show. Unreal experience
@@mikemaas9944 lol, he surprised us. We found a cool shady spot to stand and we were talking about the show and we heard agreement behind us and bam... There he was. He talked to us for at least 20 mins. He was down to earth and obviously has great taste in music.
I opened for them a few years back and they were all the nicest dudes. They watched our whole soundcheck and talked to us for a while after. Most bigger bands would just hide in the van but they took the time to chill with us
DAMN!!! My boy brought up Trees. Killer club back in the day . Along with The Curtain Club
I'm 42 and I watched this band as a teenager. They were so hot in the 90s.
🤘🏻🤘🏻
I discovered Sevendust in 1998. I was 30.
Your initial reaction is spot on. Sevendust is criminally underrated.Take my advice and go see them live. Arguably one of the best live shows I've seen.
Highly recommend these Sevendust songs: 'Denial'... 'Praise'... "Angel's son"... 'Enemy'... 'Live again'... 'Prayer'... 'Waffle'... 'Driven'... 'Dirty'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
Agreeed…
Waffle ftw
Nice solid selection Sumon 👌
Can't argue with any of those
I would like to submit Rumble Fish, Terminator and Home as additions to your list.
I managed a mid sized concert venue (1500 seats) back in the late 90's, and Sevendust rolled through several times, these guys were on every tour, working their asses off. Amazing band and even better people, the whole band was super good to my staff and their fans, and absolutely CRUSHED it on stage. They have a big catalog, and still putting out great music and kicking ass onstage.
I just saw them with nonpoint this last september in an 800 person venue. I have been a fan of both bands for over 20 yrs and both bands that night blew me away. I have seen both many times over the years but definately even better over time.
I can actually vouch for that. Me & an old friend met them in Charlotte, N.C and we got to meet them before their set. Very down to earth! Kick ass band!
Lajon Witherspoon is a force of nature on vocals. Ive seen a music video for Black and they come through the crowd to the stage. High energy. First 2 Sevendust albums are flawless
His vocals are the beauty of all aspects of nature!
Sevendust is woefully underrated. Phenomenal band, just never quite had the mainstream success of other bands from that era.
were u even paying attention back then? lol everyone knew some Sevendust song, even chicks who didnt like rock/metal music i knew were singing along to their chill stuff. They were HUGE, just never sold out. Big diff
Sevendust is outstanding, their first few albums might be the pinnacle of nu-metal/hard rock in the early 00's
He's singing about racism and the feeling of being different in a genre that he's "not supposed to be in." This is real, unencumbered emotion and healing being expressed in song. It's why it doesn't matter if you like the delivery. We ALL can relate to the content and the passion. It's beautiful and what brought me into the fold in 1997. The entire catalog is as personal and beautiful. Thanks for sharing your reaction to one of my favorite songs ever!
Sevendust is one of my favorite bands. I didn't even know Lajon Witherspoon was black for the longest. Just like the band Straight Line Stitch lead singer is a black female. Alexis Brown is very rare and awesome in this genre.
It does my heart good to see Sevendust getting love and recognition. They are easily one of the most underrated and hardest working bands out there. They are also probably the nicest guys in rock/metal and put on one of the best shows (I lost count of how many times I've seen them, but it's at least 13). Some of their other songs you should check out are Face to Face, Praise, Denial, Alpha, and Enemy.
I go to there concert every time they are in town. They are an incredible live band.
Sevendust has a very amazing and underrated discography. They are also so very good live.
My guy…I’m 65 in March of ‘24, and Sevendust lives in my playlists.
Sevendust is certainly a guilty pleasure from my youth. Lajon has a pretty distinctive and appealing sound to his voice. The first 3 albums are littered with bangers. Home, Animosity, and Seasons. The music isn't as complicated as TooL and doesn't maintain that almost 100% success rate track by track, but in those first 3 albums, you won't find too many misses.
Seasons was awesome too
I know it's likely just an oversight, but seasons is the fourth album. You left out their self titled debut.
Which has some great great tunes.
Specifically the one being reviewed in this video itself.
Not a guilty pleasure. Quality
SEVENDUST is absolutely phenomenal live! Some of the best concerts I've been to had them in the lineup!
I once listened to this song 20 times and still wasn't sick of it. So yeah it's that good.
When the initial Sevendust album was released in 1997 I was hooked! The entire thing was on repeat for me for several years, I got sober on 11/11/1998 and it helped me get through some tough times in early sobriety. I'm still sober today and I still remember those early years and how this album helped to fight the pain & my demons! Their vibe is unreal in the realest sense possible
I'm so happy that you were turned onto them, More from this Album please!
It's my favorite album of theirs too, I've been listening to it so much in these past few years. I enjoy their Self-titled record so much that I even learned how to play the whole record on guitar
I have been a fan of these kats since 2001. My favorite band of all time for me. I enjoy seeing your reaction to them. SEVENDUST has arrived!
Been to tons of concerts over the years and Sevendust is one of the top live bands I've seen. Lajon is a great front man.
One of the hardest working bands in the industry. They are always on tour. I've seen them half a dozen times and the energy is amazing
Don't sleep on @Sevendust. They are so underrated. Been a fan for a long time. They are one of my favorite bands.
You're definitely gonna love ' Denial '. Seen these guys live twice, awesome band
I was in HS. Massive metal head. I remember seeing an ad in a metal magazine for Sevendusts debut album. The ad said "If you like Pantera, check these guys out" or something like that.
I bought the CD without hearing a single song from it. One of my finest blind purchases ever.
It's not everyday you get to actually meet members of your favorite bands. What's even more rare is to meet them and they end up exceeding your expectations. I met L.J. and the guys 3 times since their 2nd album. Most wholesome, cool guys ever. It stuck with me and I support everything they do since then.
Sevendust has been my fav for years, as the years past their styles albums change an evolve but never disappoint Listen to the full home and animosity album those two are my fave
Been rocking to these guys since for 23 years, LOVE THEM!!!!
Sevendust is timeless and nostalgic at the same time.
First time this song came on in the car in 1997, I literally turned the car around and went to the record store and bought the CD. Amazing band.
Sevendust has been a stapel of the metal community since they came on the scene. Glad you like it. Their live performances are even better.
I remember the first time I heard that the lead singer was black. I was flabbergasted. That was new to me at the time. We are so blessed that this man loved metal so much that he became the lead singer for one the greatest underrated bands of all time.
This lead singer black by the way, boom. your world shattered
I've seen Sevendust live at least 6 times. Their acoustic set was life changing! They are simply incredible live!! You HAVE TO see them live!
That Southside Doublewide dvd/cd is absolutely amazing. Lajon is a master at conveying emotion with his performances.
That whole Sevendust album is great start to finish! Its a hidden gem, like The Melvins album Stoner Witch. When you can hear the next song up on the album in your head, you know its an album, not just a collection of songs.
Stoner Witch is a classic
This is my favorite song. His rage is just so intoxicating and honest.
Lajon was originally in an R&B band before Sevendust. You can hear it every now and then, but his voice for rock is absolutely amazing. Sevendust is such a great band all around. Morgan is a monster of a drummer too
I had this same reaction first hearing this song in 1998 in high school. The early days of Sevendust, Deftones, Korn, Godsmack, Coal chamber, Soul FLy, Snot, etc., they got me through a lot. The song "Angels' son" by Sevendust had a great deal of meaning to me and is recommended highly.
This song came out when I was 14… I just turned 40 this year. I still jump around like a little kid when I want to listen to a badass song! The lyrics about prejudices and hate still make the song an emotional experience as well.
Live and acoustic, Sevendust "Black" at Guitar Center - blown away by that performance - legit and so relevant.
Sevendust is awesome! Great band and some of the coolest people you can ever meet.
Excellent band with a diverse catalog. They evolved over the years in so many great ways. Amazing live as well.
My favorite Sevendust Song is stuck between - Trust - Corrected - Bender - Licking Cream - Anything from "Southside Double Wide"
Sevendust is my all time favorite band. Seen them live 30+ times and my own band has done a few shows with them. Always great songs and energy.
I've seen Sevendust so many times I've lost count. They always showed up to play and never had a bad show. They are one of the most respected bands within the industry that never fully went mainstream.
Such a POWERFUL song with a POWERFUL meaning! Lajon RULES!
I saw Sevendust at Warped Tour '99. They are even more amazing live!! One of my favorite bands.
I live in Atlanta and I’ve known Morgan (drummer) for years. I’ve seen them more than twenty times all over the country. Great guys all around. They are so connected with their fans it’s amazing to see. By far one of the best live bands hands down. Their stage energy is second to none.
The lead singer is a dreadlocked black dude called Lajon Witherspoon. Sooooo great to see a black fontman, and hes a total natural. Doesnt need a guitar in hand, he is 100% awesome as just the singer. I love this band. Best songs to check out are Licking Cream, Angels Son. Both have video clips. Waffle, Praise, Denial, Live Again. The softest song is Angels Son, written about the death of a close friend, its really emotional and sad and filmed in a hospital.
YES...listening to this song brings me right back to being 17 again! I'm 43 now and it's still on regular rotation on my Spotify playlist!
FINALLY!! You just got Dusted, my brother. Enjoy the ride. And every damn live version is straight fire, even the acoustic version. Yes, you read that correctly 🤘
Lajon has a great soulful voice that can also pull off these kinds of aggressive vocals too. I love Sevendust!
Ya gotta go see them in concert! I’ve been to 8 of their shows and every single one was perfection!! Awesome energy and they sound amazing!
I've been listening to this song since the late 90s and I still get the same reaction that you have here.
You’re in for a treat. Sevendust has SO many damn good songs.
I took my two sons to a festival in Phoenix AZ. Avenge 7X and Korn some others the thing is SevenDust was on one of other small stages. I couldn't believe how good this song was when I first heard it. They rocked their @$$&$ off. Your exactly right, it is up their with the best. Your on it for sure,I'm in it as well.😎
SEVENDUST RULES. I’ve seen them so many times live it used to be a favorite pastime of mine to see them at House of blues in Orlando on New Year’s Eve… It’s an experience that you will never get enough of, and I’ve gotten my ass beat and beaten, many peoples ass in the mosh pit at their shows, and, it’s one of my favorite concert experiences in life. Plus I’ve met them a couple times and they are really nice guys on top of being incredible musicians and live performers. Can’t say enough about this band. Fucking LOVE THEM. 😈🤘🏼
sevendust saw them at my 1st concert when i was 15 and saw them 7 more times they are awesome live. especially this record
Been a minute since I've listened to Sevendust, great band! Used to blast THIS song in particular in the car and headbang with my daughter ha, who is 34 now!
Easily my favorite song of all time. Such a banger and I love playing this song on the drums.
This song is amazing live too.
Lead singer was recruited from a local R&B group called Body & Soul. His voice is incredible. And this song is about DWB.
Sevendust is an AMAZING live band and they have a great catalog. Please dive into them and enjoy it all! Lead singer is Lajon Witherspoon and the beast of a drummer is Morgan Rose. They are all phenomenal!
Licking Creme from their album Home is absolutely killer! Check that out when you can!
Yeah, this is one of my favorite riffs ever. They absolutely kill it live.
They have an incredible catalog of music...and Lajon (singer) just makes you feel a certain way others don't🤷
Sing it Lajon!!! The truth! Polo with follow!!! Good live version you say? 100's of them. Sevendust tours more than almost everyone. 25 friggin years. I heard this on a local video channel in a hotel room in Jacksonville back in 1997 and I was done. Coolest dudes ever.
They are the most underrated band of the 90’s and entire, “nu-metal” era. They’ve been one of my favorites since I was a kid. You have to listen to Waffle, Denial, Bitch, Home, Enemy and Licking Crème.
One of my favorite bands of all time…been with them since the beginning and actually going to see them this weekend…
"This is like the 1st time I heard The Pot, by TOOL" dude gets it.
Imagine being a teenager/ young adult and hearing this stuff tru ur car radio for the 1st time.....and pulling over to listen to it.
Sevendust is one of the best live bands Ive seen in person. They put on one hell of a show!
Was lucky enough to see a show in Atlanta after they released this record. Most fun concert crowd I've ever experienced, hand down. The place was PACKED. Lajon brought his dad on stage and introduced him, walked him offstage, came back and tossed a joint into the crowd (Yelling "smoke a joint!") right as the next song cranked up. Seventeen year old me was perplexed, LOL. 'Bitch' should be next.
Thanks for posting! 😊 anything from 7D is great more people need SEVENDUST in their life not just the songs but the way SEVENDUST is. It's a way of life. Cheers and thanks 🎉
Sevendust is just the best. Legends, all of them. Still going strong after decades of writing and touring. They’ve got staying power for a reason. Lajon’s voice is so soulful and beautiful, which is an incredible contrast to a lot of their instrumentation. I can’t recommend more of them enough. This band has never gotten the respect or attention they deserve. They’re a rabbit hole well worth following. If you like these guys, I bet you’d love the band Nonpoint, too.
Another criminally underrated band right there
Omg I absolutely love Sevendust!!! Always have!
One of the best live bands I have ever seen, and all of them are genuinely good guys that make fans feel like they care about them.
I haven't heard Sevendust in like 20 years.. I forgot all about this band. This song is 🔥
One of the best black singers there is in metal❤
A violently underrated band, it's usually the band I start my motorcycle rides with.
You my friend have stumbled upon another great band. Welcome to your Sevendust journey.
Denial , Praise and Black are my 3 favorite songs from them. They are amazing and kick ass live.
I met the singer, Lajon Witherspoon, at theTattoo the Earth tour in Milwaukee back in 2000. He was stoned as hell, but a really nice dude. I've seen Sevendust at least 8 times live and they are just amazing.
My good friends, my old band opened for them 5 different times, we never got big, but it was awesome to make friends like these dudes!!!
I remember my bassist bringing this album to a show we were playing at the time; back in the day. It was Huge. We were instantly hooked. We ended up becoming friends w/ them and doing shows with them in Atlanta. Good times….
Prob my most underrated band I listen to. They deserve so much more, they are so insanely consistent
Black is the reason that to this day that Sevendust is the only album I have bought from a commercial (on headbangers's ball when MTV actually did music)
Holds up surprisingly well.. Haven't heard this for a long time. 🕒
This band is amazing. I could rattle off a pile of stuff by these guys and none would disappoint. Like someone else said, these guys a sooooooo underrated.
Sevendust is the best band of there time. Highly underrated.
I remember seeing these guys in a tiny ass bar when this song was just hitting the radio. It was crazy to hear them before anyone really knew who they were and man did it blow my 14 year old mind!
Brings me back to the late 90's when I was in high school and driving the loop jamming out.
You are going to get your mind blown over and over again going down the Sevendust rabbit hole. Believe me it only gets better the further you go with these guys!
Lajon has one of the best voices in all of rock/metal. Guy absolutely BRINGS IT!
These guys are at their best live. DEFINITELY find their live versions. Their live appearances on late night shows never disappoint.
I really like Sevendust -- went through a period in the 00's where I listened to them a lot. Saw them live once and can say one of the best live shows I've seen from a pure performance standpoint, and,....I've seen a lot of live shows.
Go see them live. You won't regret it! They're on tour over the next several months. Have been listening since 97! Soooo many good songs.
Im ashamed to admit that at 45 yrs old i just discovered sevendust about two months ago im a diehard lifelong metal/rock guy .....this was the song that i first heard from the first 2 seconds it had my full attention....the i went on CZcams to watch them live and was surprised to see the lead singer was a black dude.....rocking out on the lead vocals theres alota white ppl listening to rap out there but you dont really see alota black guys rocking out as heavy as lajon does.... I agree with the fact that this band is VERY VERY UNDERRATED AND DESERVES MORE NOTORIETY.....IM A MASSIVE FAN FOR LIFE LAJONS VOICE HAS ME HOOKED MAN .....IM A SEVENDUST FAN 4 LIFE 🤘
Sevendust is in my top 5 favorite bands. Hard as hell with a groove.
One of the first rock bands i heard with a black lead singer which is rare in metal music. this was back in like 2000
