@Nikoladin Britain didn't just invade everyone because they were an evil mustache twirling villain. Britain ended up controlling the world because they went on an anti-slavery crusade, invading any country they could that refused to give up slavery and then simply adding it to their empire to police it and ensure slavery didn't return. All the financial gains involved were just seen as a self-reward and an aid to help fund the crusade. They were the good guys as far as they were concerned.

A few vital things are missing from this video regarding Taiwans defence. There are only 2 times a year that the currents are suitable for an amphibious invasion and that is April and October. The Taiwanese would have large networks of sabotuers and agents on mainland China that would carry out targeted assassinations and damage key infrastructure. The staging areas in China would be targeted by Taiwanese cruise missiles while troops and equipment are being prepared causing considerable losses to condensed taget areas. China does not have an amphibious naval force large enough to carry an invasion force large enough so they will have to use civilian vessels. The approaches to landing beaches would be laced with many sea mines that will cause massive losses of shipping. These mines can be remote detonated, magnetic trigger, acoustic trigger. The beaches will be flooded with oil and lit in fire. The landing force will be targted with short range missile systems ansd artillery that would be hidden in Taiwans massive cave systems built over the decades to hide and store massive amounts of ammunition and equipment and food and all manner of other supplies waiting for an invasion. The beaches themselves will be laced woith anti tank and anti personnel mines. The Taiwanese airforce will be hidden in bunkers and cave systems and use the road networks as airfields. The invading force will need CAS and this brings the Chinese Air Force into the kill box of hidden anti air missile systems hidden over the island. Also Taiwan has many many decoys to deploy so the Chinese Airforce will expose themselves to destroy the decoys. All of this with out any intervention from the USA or Japan. It would be a blood bath with massive Chinese military losses and still no established beach head. Look at History with US invasions of Saipan, Tawara and Iwo Jima during WW2 and you will see even with complete domination of the sea and air and with a massively over whelming advantage in numbers and equipment it is still enormously difficult to acheive. The Taiwanese are infinitely better prepared and equiped.

Taiwan should adopt the Israeli model: national military service that makes every citizen a soldier. This system has served Israel so well through repeated invasions through decades and in much more vulnerable geographical and political positions-moving large forces through the Golan Heights and Sinai is a picnic compared to amphibious operations across 100 miles of heavily contested ocean, and never mind the international community’s reaction to having that major trade artery turned into a battlefield because of Chinese Communist national pride. Moreover, Taiwanese do seem to share certain characteristics with Israelis: both are technologically advanced, tough, cohesive, not inclined to give up their freedom and independence easily, and very feisty about it. Taiwan should invite Israel out for a cup of coffee.

Then Australia will ask for an "extended deterrent" from the US - which will be DCA and B-61s to Australia. You will also see a buildup of US conventional and theater nuclear capability. China has not got the capacity to take Taiwan over by military force without having to consider losses large enough to ruin the growth of the country.
The military have no experience whatsoever in any form of conflict.
The only real military adventure was the invasion of Vietnam in 1979 in the Sinovietnamese war.
It did not fare well and although the military has many new and flashy weapons to play with, the real cost of such an operation could be prohibitive.
Apart for a "legacy wish" there is no real reason for China to try to take Taiwan by force.
It however remains a pressure leverage point when bullying countries from making business with Taiwan threatening any company active with such trade, this is apparently very satisfactory for the Chinese government.

I mean, yeah Germany did not exactly oppose China, but neither did almost every other European state.
From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joshua_Wong#Role_in_2019%E2%80%9320_Hong_Kong_protests : "On 9 September, Wong met with the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. The Chinese Foreign Ministry called this move "disrespectful of China's sovereignty and an interference in China’s internal affairs"."
From the German pendant: "Im Rahmen der Proteste 2019/2020 forderte Wong, Deutschland solle „Einreisesperren verhängen und das Vermögen derjenigen einfrieren, die Menschen in Hongkong unterdrücken wollen“"; translation: "As part of the 2019/2020 protests, Wong demanded Germany shell “impose immigration bans and freeze the assets/riches of those who want to suppress people in Hong Kong“".
Do you really think Germany would gain anything by taking a hard stance against Hong Kong encroachment by the CCP? If so, why doesn't the USA recognize Taiwan even when they are in a military pact when some almost lawless Central American states have done so for years? We cannot win against the CCP by expressing our disgust now. They are way to big for that. There is no easy solution. The PLAN doesn't have a huge sealift capacity, although they are building more over time, but for the moment it seems very unlikely that the PRC could put a successful invasion ashore. F-16 fighters can be described as "legacy" rather than "state of the art". It first flew in 1974, was introduced in US inventory in 1978. It has been upgraded many times (avionics and engines) but it is the same basic design. Taiwan would need some F-35, but the US are worried that in case of a successful Chinese invasion, China will reverse engineer it as they do with all foreign technology.
