"An individual cannot take your power, unless you give it away" Over and over again I heard about how Trump co-opted the GOP,. But NOBODY stated the obvious. THE GOP LET HIM DO IT! My uncle, John Grotberg, a congressman from Illinois' 14th District was the only politically active Republican in our family of Democrats, who according to his brother Perry, was so because he didn't want to be associated with the Daley political machine in Illinois. He, like Mr. Kinzinger, admired Ronald Reagan, President during John's tenure. Reared on a farm in North Dakota, John had the strength of character to know right from wrong and stand by his principles. A huge disappointment for him in WWI II was that he couldn't join the military like his brothers because he was needed on the farm. I recall that John's biggest concern regarding possible defeat for another term was losing, not in a general election , but in the primary to far right challengers. This was a phenomenon gaining considerable traction, which contributed to the state of the Republican Party today. I am certain that if he was living now, he would see Mr. Kinzinger's choice as the only choice for a patriot to take, regardless of party affiliation.
