    1. LED headlight,
    2. cruise-control,
    3. quick-shifter,
    4. more comfortable seat; &
    5. Larger fuel tank capacity.
    My choice of colour would be British Racing Green, with a few tasteful off-sets.

      @@RocketMan_Moto - even an extra 2 litre fuel tank would be substantial. Your points about better suspenders certainly would be ideal on an "RS" model. My 5 points were just how the normal model should be in 2022 IMO.
      Btw did you know Triumph has very real supply shortages to Australia? I'd say there's a good 30% choked off and orders are back up to August for a delivery, and in some cases to 2023....

    Thanks for your thoughts on the ultimate upgrade for the ST. I didn’t think that the 2021 version offered enough for me to upgrade from my 2020 bike, especially since I’ve inherited the Vance and Hines cans and have already fitted throttle spacers and a fuel booster plug. For those who’ve never ridden a ST, they’re what the 1960’s twins should have been. Great handling, awesome engines and unquestionable reliability (no puddle of oil in my garage!) Apart from the fat tyre, I agree with your list, though I would accept another 20mm of height for a more padded seat. I don’t miss cruise control, but a quick shifter would be nice. If Triumph ever built such an RS version I would definitely upgrade!

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  Před 2 lety +2

      Although I have never ridden an ST , I have ridden a T110 and 750 commando , and no way shape or form could either have ever performed like a current 1200 cc twin, if you want a comparison to a 1960s twin as in 650 cc BSA/Triumph , its the Royal ? Enfield 650 similar power/torque , over engineered compared to a 1960's twin , does not leak oil , and is ultra reliable , a comparison to a 1960's bike if it were built for the ST would have been a Panther 600cc single , yes not really a comparison as its a single and 600 cc , but I did state if it was built , imagine a Panther 1200 cc twin , now if that was a thing wow.... oh and a well sorted Vincent with modern chassis comparable running gear well .....

    I had a customer survey from the Hinckley factory a few months back in which they ask what your next Triumph model might be? I ticked Speed Twin then up popped colour options such as Racing Yellow (a TBS colour) British Racing Green and Pacific Blue (a Daytona 955 colour) no mention of cruise control option (which I would definitely have) or spoked wheels (yes please) so it looks like 'they' are listening 😉

    Part of the enjoyment, at least for me, is altering, changing or adding on the aftermarket parts yourself. I have done everything from decating, remapping for added zip, side panels by Bakk, gp silencers by BritishCustoms. 2 custom seats, ohlins rear and andreani front shocks, air pod, handlebars, mirrors lights, better brake pads even a pedestrian slicer up front. etc.. If you want a wider tire Canyon spoked wheels and kit have what you're looking for.
    The aftermarket parts are growing everyday for the Speed Twin. You are only limited by what you can afford. Fortunately I can. And now my Speed Twin is exactly how I want it.

    I have to agree with your suggestions for a Speed Twin RS, it'd make a very good bike great, my only worry would be would you be able to keep the monstrous low down torque if you gave it another 40/50 bhp whilst keeping the same cc, the bike that's impressed me most this year is the new Ducati Monster, its low down power makes my Street Triple R seem pedestrian in comparison even though it's 6 bhp down on power, take note Triumph.

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  Před 2 lety

A pair of rear Öhlins from the Thruxton RS and Öhlins fork from the Speed Triple RS will greatly improve performance without sacrifing the classic theme

(Crazy good quick shifter and 190/55ZR17 rear) Lacking a decent sound track makes me lust after the Thruxton RS; no quick shifter and the rear tire at 160 plus ride position (probably) prevents this error in judgment. A little more horsepower say 110 to 120 HP and some upgraded suspension would be great. Having a speed twin 130 to 140 pounds wet weight would be nice. Should Triumph increase displacement to 1,250 or 1,300cc size engine? Yes. I like having the headers turn color and double walled pipes would just add weight. The instrument panel looks classic and should be kept the same. The catalytic converter should be in the exhaust slip on end pipe and this would simplify the frame etc.. Most of the other ideas complicate what is supposed to be a simple classically styled bike. Triumph should offer a speed twin R even if it has to be a special order bike.

    Thanks for your Speed Twin videos. 👍🏻 One question: Is this the right position for the knee pads? Don't like the ending position of the silver stripe half behind the pad. When then would have been positioned in the middle, they will cover the ends of the stripes. 😉

      Good question: I originally ordered the gloss black model for that precise reason, but was forced to change because of availability problems. I agree the knee pad does not sit perfectly with the stripe, but I can't do much about it

      I just got a 2022 Speed Twin a couple weeks ago and had knee pads installed by the dealer. They lined the top of the pad up with the stripe like I was hoping they would. The pad does sit a little high to the knee, but I have long legs so my knees do contact the pad. If my legs were any shorter or the pads any higher they'd be for nothing more than looks...which us all I wanted them for anyway!

    I have owned the Kawasaki RS900 Cafe, and the BMW F900XR and have to say my speed twin T1200 is a much more refined motorcycle. It is so easy to handle and the power band and shifting is incredibly smooth. The overall build quality is excellent right down to the positioning of the tire air valves. My BMW was all plastic not to mention an engine made in China. In fact after only 3000 miles the water pump needed to be replaced. Greatly disappointed in BMW quality.

    I think the Speed Twin is an truly great retro performance twin. All of the upgrades you propose would be very welcomed on a “RS” version. The stumbling block for me is price. The Speed Twin has a starting price of $12,500 here in the U.S. Add another $2000-$3000 to get a “RS”, umm, not so sure. I can get a 2022 Yamaha MT-09 SP for $11,099 and have all the whiz bang electronics, an absolute beast of an engine and premium KYB and Ohlins suspension. I know it is a bit of an apples and oranges (from the Algarve, of course) comparison. Still, the price premium for the Speed Twin is already something that would sway my decision.
    If I was musing about what I want Triumph to build me it would be a proper ADV version of the 660 Tiger. Tubeless wire spoked 21” front and 18” rear wheels; add 3” (75-80 mm) of suspension travel front and rear, fully adjustable please; leave the engine just as it is, no more electronic nannies or wizardry are needed, just let me be able to switch off at least the rear ABS; the brakes are fine as is on the Tiger 660 Sport; keep the weight at 200 kg, or a bit less, 400 lbs. would be nice; and keep the price right at about $10,000. Triumph if you are listening, thanks and get to work.

      @RocketMan_Moto  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks, Stephanie. I agree that Triumphs are very expensive, even here in Europe. My recent test of the Royal Enfield Interceptor, reminded me, however, that you - usually - get what you pay for. The RS I outline would definitely cost around $3000 more, and I think that would put it beyond many people's budget. A true Trident-based ADV bike would be great. Perhaps for 2023.

    Interesting Vid. I would not want a 150hp bike without some sort of screen or fairing,or with this upright riding position........Unusable,but another 15 would be ok,along with a good session at the Gym, to shed a few pounds. Simple Rim tape/Graphics have improved my wheel aesthetics,but your suggestion of a polished edge would be the right way to sort it.....or even laced wheels. Throttle spacer,Fuel Booster and Performance air filter has made a huge improvement to the lower speed/urban riding throttle response,down shifting, and over all feel. As has the Zard 2:1,for several reasons. Next is a taller gear ratio,as the stock is ridiculously low and over revvy. Plenty of torque and power to cope with 3 0r 4 less teeth on the rear sprocket,without ruining the punchy performance. Overall, Triumph have produced a great bike with the Speed Twin IMO, and I love riding, improving and personalising it.

    Instead of replacing your motorcycle every 6 months keep more than one at the same time. I could not live with only one motorcycle, there are so many that I want to experience. When having more than one you will pay more for insurance and taxes but I bet you will have less urgency to trade, keep your motorcycles longer and loose less in depreciation because of that. Regarding colors of cars and motorcycles I'm a traditionalist. I think historic brands (like Triumph) should always have the racing color of its country as a staple color. A Speed Triple 1200RR in British racing green (preferably with gold wheels) would be epic. But on this subject of colors Triumphs has showed it listens to its customers because, after being fairly criticized for only been offering black and grey motorcycles in the last years, Triumph is releasing a lot of models in multiple colors. Vinyl is more waterproof than leather & hot stitching is cheap but it is to water proof seat but you can get leather waterproof cream.For the price you should get better rear shocks as for the front forks most companies don't do adjustable forks.Rear shocks are really expensive so be better for Triumph to sell better one's & upgrade the forks yourself.The Speed Twin is a beautiful bike very powerful & torquie for the style of bike & is probably the most powerful too.
    Rear Yss shocks cost heaps & fully adjustable 50%more but aren't really needed the semi adjustable shocks are way better than stock & more than capable & not difficult to dial in as fully adjustables & can take alot of dialing in the shocks need to bed in & constantly need to be dialed in until springs broken in.Triumphs chrome work shabby for the price too so other than rear shocks,shabby chrome work it is a excellent bike. Triumph should rectify rear shocks & chrome work especially for price as for seat & front forks they can easily be upgraded for a reasonable cost by owner.Double skinning Headers will increase weight by 7kg which is why it's not probably done by Triumph & everyone swapping double skinned for single knows is the best way to shed weight.I don't know if Triumph has improved oil leaking engines after 15-25k in latest models I hope so & that is a thing of the past.I totally agree that most people would gladly spend $1500 more for a exceptional bike but Triumph bikes are overpriced so the $1500 mods should be included in price rather than rely on modern Triumph marketing scam to keep numbers low & prices high to make out bike is better than it really is but still is the best.

  • @wetzel1628

    pretty sure triumph limits the greatness of the speed twin because they want the thruxton to be their range topper. Even then both of them are top speed limited (throttle bodies close 70% above 6400rpm). if the ducati monster 1200 engine was in the speed twin/thruxton theyd be unbeatable

      @@RocketMan_Moto there’s a guy here on CZcams who increased his thruxton r’s horsepower by 15 and added like 8 more ft lbs of torque as well with a couple mods. He also got a custom tune to fix the issue with the throttle bodies and got his bike to 150mph at the bonneville salt flats, which equates to 160+mph at sea level (higher air density=more power). The potential with the 1200cc engine is certainly there, especially with the newer low inertia variants

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  Před 2 lety +1

      I think the 1200 engine as it is has a lazy tune. It would be great to get another 30-40hp out of it. Maybe a turbo, lol?

    • @wetzel1628
      @wetzel1628 Před 2 lety

      @@RocketMan_Moto the tune is a bit lazy but I think it’s main limiting factor is engine geometry. It has more stroke than bore unlike most sport bikes, this gives it a lower redline than it could have but at least it gives us gobs of torque. Also there is a supercharger kit out there for this engine, it’s totally insane
