Hi I am in the UK and have just set up my new weather station the WASTSON WS-8686 similar to the ambient station but I think as a much better unit and as capable as the davis station you deemed as the top system, this has all the features available in the davis station inc the ability to add extra sensors indoors and out it can also detect lightning . You can also set it up on line to wounderground and WOW Met office in the UK to report on local weather ...

one thing i found out was, place the sensor in a white, ventilated box (as the pros do) for an accurate temperature reading. i tried a number of locations, and got bad readings. the box solved that.

I have the Vantage pro since 2000, I now have the Pro 2. My only real disappointment with the original Vantage pro, was with a peak wing speed witch it failed to capture. That high wind came from a straight line wind event . I was at work at the time, I came home to see the peak wind speed and all I got was 26mph, no way. evidence around my house suggested much higher wind, leaves were plastered up against the house and stuck there top to bottom, the wind must have been 65 to 75 mph, straight line winds will produce more than 26mph. I later found out they had issues with the anemometer (wrong placement of reed switch to magnet) And those defect anemometer arms did not last long either 4 months, give or take.

Well their is ONE problem with ALL of these. I like to mount my wind speed indicator on top of my Barn. NOW the problem. I used to have one I could run a power cord to because I KNOW LI-ION batteries freeze in the cold and DO NOT WORK. At minus temperatures your outdoor sensor DOES NOT WORK. I have talked to idiots at some of these companies and they seem to NOT CARE about the batteries freezing. I guess they do want me to put it where they tell me to put it NOT where I want to put it. But in any case The need a rechargeable that can go down to minus temperatures and NOT FREEZE. KINDA like the batteries used in the car tires for their sensors. OR IMAGINE THIS, Give me an optional place where I can run power to the device so it works in minus temperatures. But then again, why think about what some customers would actually LIKE and USE!!

@@Arnesahn: We have had rain as well, and no trouble. I must admit, though, that I am an engineer, and that I dismantled the sensor unit before I installed it -- just to "check it out". I noticed that a printed circuit board was uncomfortably (for me) near the rain bucket device. I fabricated and installed a baffle to prevent splashing of water onto the board. Perhaps it was necessary, after all.
