It is an interesting concept to see the ego as a mode, as a state, in which the Self can be. When the self/consciousness is in an egoic mode, we experience the world as humans and when we leave the egoic mode, when we stop "egoing", we perceive ourselves, we can "see" what we really are, we perceive us as pure awareness. We can switch our state of consciousness by changing the mode. And the transition is fluid. And we can move back and forth in either direction.
Does anyone think the idea of being immortal actually exists? Such a strange concept seems very surreal. I’m not sure but I do as we all do, fear the idea of death as well dying while living. Thanks, Anne

I really appreciate the question about grief and rites of passage. It seems that there are some cultural practices that deny or minimise the emotional, mental, physical and community process of grieving, while others honour all of it. I have really appreciated some of the African traditions where weeping and wailing openly, with everyone maintaining a soothing presence, allowing the grief to ebb and flow in the crowd, to be very helpful in ensuring holistic grief. Thanks too for Joyce sharing the 'narrative sense of gravity'. Yes, resistance (to grief etc) creates a build up of energy, and just 'flowing through' as a non-judgemental openness that neither grasps nor resists.

Mode of thinking yes, but dont we need an ego to drive a car, work a job, balance our checkbooks, etc??? I don't believe we must kill the ego. The unhealed ego is a problem and the healing of that ego changes our mode of thinking.
