The Karakoram Highway - from China to Pakistan

  • The Karakoram Highway (KKH) runs from Kashgar in Western China to Islamabad in Pakistan, and isn't so much a highway as a 'high road'. It took a stunning 20 years to finish the road, and even today it continues to suffer from extreme weather and environmental disasters.
The KKH runs through the highest concentration of soaring mountain peaks and raging rivers in the world, and is generally considered to be among the most spectacular areas on our planet. Traveling here isn't for the faint hearted, although transportation has improved significantly in the past decades.
In October 2010 I had the chance to travel the Karakoram Highway. Although Pakistan had suffered its worst floods in recent history the same year, most parts of the road were still intact. Nevertheless, traveling the road proved a massive challenge and also a great adventure. As these events had scared off many tourists and travelers, I found myself among locals for nearly all of the time.
(Other than royalty free audio, I also used a short part of the following song: Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyara Hai - by Penn Penn Masala)

Friend, you can not imagine how much I thank you for putting the videos on these places that not everyone can get there. Your work is priceless so I consider it simply FANTASTIC. Realize that I really thank you from the heart. I am Portuguese and I am with an age (65) that no longer allows me to leave for these adventures, although I know little more than to speak Portuguese. These phrases are written with the help of google translator. Rest assured that I will religiously see and review all your videos. When I have possibilities I do some adventures but nothing like this that presents here. Picos de Europa, is in Spain and I loved doing those routes. It was the best I've ever done. Here in Portugal there is nothing that gives us the pleasure of hiking in mountains. The highest is the Serra da Estrela and has a height of 1995metros.
My appreciation for your videos is comparable to my desire for God to accompany you and guide you to new adventures.
A friendly hug from João Damaso

Oh my god. China isn't investing in the CPEC out of the kindness of their heart. They're getting access to the middle East through Pakistan. And locals are already sceptical about the feasibility and maintenance of the projects consisting of roads, railways etc. China arming and investing in Pakistan makes it harder for India to deal with both; and That is exactly why China is doing it. Just like Sri Lanka and many African countries, Pakistan will fall into the Debt Trap that is One belt One road initiative. Research it yourselves before contradicting me. I have no hatred here. Just explaining things how they are from a Perspective outside of Pakistan.

He also arranges treks like Concordia through Gondogoro La or Baltoro Trek so he has contacts on expeditions and high altitude treks support and logistics world. A few steps on the hotel entrance and dining room and you can see how related this place and of course Fida is to the mountain world. Im happy to see him again.
