    About the Poem
William Butler Yeats wrote ‘The Stolen Child’ in 1886 and is considered to be one of his more notable and popular early poems.
Based on Irish Legend, 'The Stolen Child' concerns captivating faeries beguiling and charming a young boy to leave the tough modern day ‘weeping world’ and run away to live a more enchanting and mystical life with them.
The main theme of 'The Stolen Child' would suggest the struggle to maintain the innocence of childhood against the realism of having to experience the reality of life - certainly, a theme that transcend the passing of time!

I have those records in my collection from years ago, and being possessed of much Scotch/Irish dna, Yeats has always spoken to my soul. So though I have read and listened to The Stolen Child so many times throughout my long life, your reading still brought a newness to my ears. The short biographical sketch of Yeats was interesting too. I have sent this off to a my boys, now grown men with children of their own, to bring to mind all that the poem conveys. I live in County Skagit in Washington State USA, a far piece from Ireland. Yet the Skagit River flowing so near to the entrance of the inland Salish Sea is wide and not unlike the River Shannon. Walking among fern grottos, creeks and waterfalls brings a contemplative mind where I am most often under a spell, no doubt the faeries abound. Thank you Declan Walsh!!

I admire your fondness for Erin...but any place In USa is a far cry from the mystical, Celtic isles. Nor do any one besides the natives deserve or belong in north america. Go home if you desire such Celt scenes. Do not make North America something it is not. They are Naitives lands just as Ireland and Scotland are tribal Celtic lands.
