I think the their power metal is more like Helloween and Angra, Midori is a fan of Angra for example that is one of the influences for Lovebites together with other bands like Iron Maiden, Slayer, Metallica, Judas Priest etc.
I heartily agree. I hear them being called a power metal band. I don't agree totally. They do indeed have a lot of power metal songs, but in a way that speaks more to,as you say NWOBHM(metallica was also very influenced by this style, before they sold their souls.) They are def. more like helloween on the keeper albums and walls of jerico, than sonata arctica and gamma ray. They also have some of for example Galneryus and x japan in them as well, which is to be expected as they are from Japan. They also, to my great happiness, use synthesizer in a minimalistic and tasteful way on the songs that needs it(mainly on the more power metal-ish songs).
"Happymetal" is the new genre! ;-)

this is the first song I listened to from Lovebites. Samurais came and cut me into little pieces and eat me with a little spoon. These women resurrected me musically.

I really like your positive vibe of your reaction. Yes, sometimes it is tough to let go of the usual world because it is too comfortable and it can lead to denial of oneself. However, you have to in order to step out into the new world and become a better self.

You nailed it: It's all of them together. Only Miho (B) and Haruna (D) had really had a taste of being in a top-notch band before,, with Destrose, and even that fell apart. Midori and Miyako (G) had each been with multiple bands that didn't quite break through, and Asami (Vo) was plugging away doing lounge-style performances (mostly soul and jazz singing). Miho put them all together, and they just ignited, Ka-BOOM! It's sort of like what is happening with Nemophila now. Very different style but similar origin story.
