Greetings Sigmar's chosen, if you have ever wanted to know what it feels like to be thrown down by the BEST God in a bolt of lightning onto the battlefield, look no further. The Stormcast Eternals are the pinnacle of Grand Alliance Order's forces in the mortal realms. The toughest of the tough and the strongest of the strong, if you're interested in learning more about these glimmering golden boys, enjoy this testament to my favourite faction!

I find the dynamic between Stormcasts' connection to their, often ancient, homelands and gradual loss of humanity fascinating. These people can have grandchildren they only vaguely remember who are now leaders of communities that Sigmar's chosen have to defend. They obviously want to protect these mortals to their last breath but if they fall in battle they might lose what little connection to their mortal past they have left. It's tragic and through that, truly Warhammer.
In my humble, but obviously correct, opinion, stormcast do the grim dark fantasy the best while still playing into the high fantasy aesthetic and narrative. Which is what I love most about AoS. Almost every faction have asurface level “cool factor” that tempts someone into the army or is just enough to get someone who isn’t invested in lore interested to play them. But without fail, if you are interested to learn and read, every single faction has darker undertones or even incredibly depressing ones.
I for one was not expected to see reforging as an allegory for depression in the Skaventide novel, which I will be covering my thoughts on very very soon
Whenever someone tells me that AoS has no stakes "because the Sigmarines are immortal anyway", my usual response is that they have to be. James Workshop does not tire of telling us that Chaos controls around 90% of the whole setting. So Order simply is outnumbered like 10.000 to one, probably more.
If the Stormcast Eternals couldn't die again and again, the forces of Order would never even have made it to the point they are at now. And that willingness to suffer reforging after reforging, to lay down their lifes as many times as it takes so that the rest of the free people have a chance to reclaim the realms is one of my favorite aspects of the Stormcast.
As the Hallowed Knights say, "Much is demanded of those to whom much has been given."
Add on the fact that Stormcast are 100% not immortal. Sure they can be reforged dozens, if not hundreds of times, but they all reach a point where they can't be reforged eventually. Hell, some now even refuse to be reforged and willing accept a perma-killing as a mercy.
@@H240909 Oh, true. Ways to permanently kill Stormcast have been present since the very beginning. Also, I do like what they have done with the Ruination Chamber so far.
I would also like to add, the fact that most Stormcast start out as people who have already lived full life’s, with their own opinions on most things around them. They have to come to terms with being forced to fight until their very soul has flaked away in to oblivion. Not just dead, but a “soul death”.
The slow degradation of the stormcasts mined, reads a lot like Alzheimer. Stormcasts are very compelling reads, when they are reflected in the normal humans around them, and you see how mutilated they truly are… in my opinion
@@MyNerdLife5380 Agreed, I just remembered a scene in the novel Black Pyramid, where a Lord Aquilor tries to comfort the leader of a Freeguild unit that maybe she too will return after death, as one of them. And she tries not to show just how unsettling the idea to be remade into something different, her but not, is to her. Too bad Josh Reynolds no longer writes for the setting, he really delivered some great takes on Stormcast, and just good stories in general.
I completely agree with you! The setting of Warhammer as a whole needs something like Stormcast, a true bulwark against Chaos. Chaos is so overtuned in all warhammer universes that it actually feels a little cheap when they lose because I always end up thinking that it was a cop out in the lore to give the good guys a win. With how chaos is written, they realistically shouldn’t lose.
Stormcast Eternals change that, they level the playing field being almost demigods in terms of their power, I love reading about Stormcast from human perspectives, seeing how grandiose they are in size, power and strength is awesome every time. On top of that it shows the concessions Sigmar had to make to have his own immortal super soldiers, he had to essentially risk the souls of the bravest most noble characters in the setting.

Excellent summary, I wanted more! I will have to check out your other videos. I like Warhammer fantasy and love Warhammer 40k, but AOS is still kind of confusing to me, so the small specific videos are nice. I would enjoy some videos on the world and what it is like to live in the different realms in AOS. Thank you!

I don't understand how anyone can't love Stormcast Eternals! They are nice on their own, but they also have funny bird pets. And also DRAGONS. Just look at Ionus Cryptborn! That's Space Marine Chaplain in nutshell on a bloody red dragon! What could be cooler?
Don't like face masks? Then tell that to ALL the ancient warriors who used helmets with face masks. From Ireland to Japan. From the Romans to the Sarmatians, Scythians, Turks and ancient Rus'. From Antiquity to the Middle Ages - many warriors found that face masks were better than helmet visors.
I love to look at their face masks as intimidation for their enemies and reassurance for their mortal allies, no matter what happens to them in battle, no matter how many spears and arrows are sticking out of them their helms show nothing but cold determination. If I was a lowly clan rat and a 8 foot tall god in golden armour took a jezzail blast to the chest and turned around and looked at me with that cold hard look on their mask of shit my little rat loincloth.

Thank you! The face masks are easily the best part of their aesthetics. Makes them look like Dark Souls bosses(or the Penitent One)
Also just has such crazy good lore connections as the masks are both the living metal Sigmarite shaping itself to their faces to remind them of their humanity through a funeral mask AND since their equipment is forged by dwarven gods it’s a reflection of Dawi culture who put Ancestor masks/faces on their armor & architecture to honor the gods. 🎭
Made me very happy when the Prosecutors were shown maskless all GW’s social medias got flooded asking for mask’s because people love the matching aesthetic.
@@ce4879 thank Sigmar they have a masked version! And that masked version gives me a very big vibe of Roman cavalry masks/ceremonial masks. The mask being “under” the helm is an aesthetic I really like and if I had infinite money I’d put those helmets on more of my stormy boys!

What other stormcast hosts do you recommend to look at? I know of the golden boys, hallow knights and the angry blue boys, others I looked at have one line of lore.
The astral templars have a solid amount of lore as well, and most stormcast novels from the start of 2nd edition involve the anvils of the heldenhammer.

You should probably credit the artists whose work you use in your videos.
We try to use official GW art as much as possible (and they have a tendency to not credit anyone) but you’re right we’ll have to put in effort to credit artists where we can.
@@SigmarsLorekeeper Off-topic: It's becoming increasingly difficult to differentiate fanart from official art simply because of the sheer quantity. GW does little to highlight the difference. If artbooks aren't selling well, why doesn't GW make a full gallery of official art? That would be extremely helpful.
@@Vasily_Kotickovitchnot that it’s any excuse for me but finding the original source for art is very hard these days, GW never credits any artists, and fan art is so good it looks official. Even when I know it’s fan art it’s shared around so often I don’t know who the original source is but I will try my hardest to give credit where I can.
