This album sounds amazing musically. One of the better psychill albums I've heard in a while.
But I'll offer a different take about Sam Harris being on this album.
Sam Harris is an atheist. You won't find wisdom listening to an atheist speak about consciousness. This is because consciousness transcends materiality. Consciousness is spiritual and has always (and will always) exist. It is the very essence of your being and is not something that is the product of a physical/biological processes. It's the other way around.
If you want real knowledge, seek out Vedic wisdom from an authentic teacher. Peace.

It sounds like you totally misunderstand where Harris is coming from?
You know you can be an atheist AND not be a material reductionist right? Just like Harris. He would also not really call himself an Atheist (we don't have a work for non-astrologers now do we?).
He often speaks about the space for transcendence and mysticism as has spent cumulatively over 2 years in meditation (could you say the same?) and spent time with a wide range of people/mystics.
To think that you have to believe in religion in order to have a view on consciousness is absurd. (Understanding that you can still hold true the experience of transcendence without the need to smuggle some abrahamic god into the equation).
Harris would not say that consciousness is a product of physical/biological processes and never has.
I would hazard a guess that you are just hung up on the term atheist that has been put on him by others rather than actually spending any time understanding his position. Just because he thinks that current mono/polytheist ideologies should be moved into the fiction isle (much like the worshipping of Zeus) does not mean he doesn't have some very good information on the subject of consciousness.

To my knowledge I always thought Sam is an atheist, but if he's not then I misspoke. But I would certainly like to hear how one can be an atheist while simultaneously not being a material reductionist.
What I said about atheism stands. If one is an atheist then their understanding of consciousness is limited.
I'm not hung up on the word. I'm just being objective about it. Real wisdom about consciousness comes from those who know we are not this body AND that the True Self (individual Soul, individuated consciousness, however you want to phrase it) emanates from God (you might not like that word, but what I mean is the Source and Sustainer of all life. The Supreme Consciousness etc)
I honestly did not know Sam went to retreats with mystics, but I am weary that he rejects both mono and polytheist ideologies. Would you say Sam is a pantheist then?

@@EsotericHighway In philosophical terms it is known as the hard problem of consciousness. You could, for example, be a panpsychist, believing that consciousness is fundamental and the base building block of existence. You can hold this view without being a theist of any kind. To anthropomorphise consciousness is a typically human thing to do.
Valid discussions about consciousness can happen without having to delineate it's source (if it has one).
You make the presumption that there is such a thing as self. Even this is up for debate (and I personally have a hard time finding any actual individual unit or soul). Not saying I am right, but I am more in the camp that there just is (only) consciousness (which matter comes from), and no real self within that.
I don't think Sam would say he is a pantheist. He doesn't see the need or evidence for god to be in the equation and neither do I. That's not to say we can't experience states of transcendence (even if ultimately there is nothing to transcend) or pure joy, or that it cant create entities like us in various was and dimensional levels. Just that you don't need some anthropomorphic view of consciousness being the mind of some great creator in the way that we experience mind ourselves.

The issue I have with Harris is he only pretends to be what he claims to be.
I have deep concerns of his incessant promotion of covid vaccines and it's illegal mandates, and not retracting or correcting information that is widely known at the time of his podcast episodes. This isn't the thought patterns of a "conscious" individual who has integrity.
It comes from a place of fear which, if a mindfulness practice was successful, would not exist.
It appears for all he claims to be, he forgets that one law of informed consent, which arose from a very dark time in history, and his promotion of repeating that mistake.

​@@danstrath5627 I haven't really seen him incessantly promote vaccine mandates (I haven't heard a lot of his podcasts though). Have seen him promote vaccine safety which is well documented.
I don't think successful mindfulness practice means fear does not exist. This does not seem to be the point of the kind of mindfulness he practices and teaches.
