@@spencergear I wouldn't recommend using aluminum armor for anything combat related. Even more accurately designed iron or steel chainmail armor still is really more effective against slashes than any sort of direct stab or puncture, not to mention I would agree chainmail is best combined with textile armor or at least some very thick fabric or garment underneath to reinforce the protection the rings provide
@@knightgai8772 thanks for the recommendation I'll stay away from aluminum, the plan is to make some 5mm Ring's with carbon steel and then rivet them and finally paint it OD green
So I'm thinking about getting a riveted aluminum coif. I've heard bad things about aluminum but good things about riveted, so I am very torn on what to get. what would you do?
I would say the main factor to consider is intended purpose. Aluminum chainmail in general is great for costume purposes extremely lightweight and won't rust however it offers no substantial protection for anything else. Whereas a more functional steel or iron chainmail may rust. I even own a shirt made of riveted stainless steel which does not rust, but anything functional has a significant more greater and you won't want to just be wearing it around in a more casual setting. Now if cost is a factor also they make butted aluminum chainmail as well which is a little bit less expensive but it does fall apart just taking it off and putting it on. I haven't had any problems with that from the riveted aluminum. I also have another video out demonstrating some of this titled "aluminum chainmail armor". Please give it a watch as well.
cool.
Very cool,..I wonder how effective aluminum would be stopping a sword or an axe,…I would love to see a comparison vid of chainmail, very cool vid!
Not very effective, I haven't tried but it's far too light to handle any real impact.
@@knightgai8772 what about if someone tried stabbing you would it work effectively then?
