- Double Bass drum racks are the focus in this video. Two custom designed drum racks by Gibraltar's Brent Barnett.
The first rack is called "The Chopper" inspired by a rack Brent built for Limp Bizkit's John Otto. This is a simplified version of that set-up.
The 2nd set-up is "The Doppelganger". Another very simple design that doesn't require much experience in setting up racks.

awesome this has give me ideas to make a drum rack for my kit
finally got my left side curved extension. went with the older style with the 43" curved top instead of the newer 36". i now have a 4 post rack with a straight bar on the right, curved in front and curved on the left. the only thing still on the ground is the kick drum, one floor tom and my hi-hat stand. manged to mount three of my four snares to the rack, only took me 14 years to scrimp and save to build it to my specs :) but it's done!
The Chopper have all the style a metal drummer need!
I have just come across these videos. They're tremendous fun, Brent's a character. But golly, each one wants me to go and spend a load of money of Gibraltar gear...

I am looking to getting a double bass rack, drums are same as video but never thought about creating my own apart from the cost difference compared to the standard rack. I only have two crashes a ride, china but I love splashes so would have 3 of them dotted around and also an aux hat to. Your vids are great. All the way from U.K.
easiest way to afford a custom rack, IMO is to get two of the standard racks you think might suit the bill, and start customizing. otherwise you're constantly buying one piece at a time, and that takes forever and far more cash to finish. if i was running double kicks, i'd start with two of the curved racks with side wings. tons of space, tons of parts, tons of pipes. just build it how you like it from there.

Awesome video Brent!!!...ur next video should be "cymbals on a double bass set up"....please dont forget to add a extra pair or hi hats lol....ive been looking at 2 options to do so....hope u can show both and show the pro and cons about each one...rock on brother!!!

Love these videoes, but many of them lack a demonstration with cymbals mounted on the racks.

You said that you use 4 pairs of memory locks but you actually used 8 pairs.

The more efficient way to bring the chopper to the stage is to set it up, take off the toms, break into three... Then to stage. I've set up hundreds of racks, his way might also work.
I liked the chooper style, im sort of hanging back on using round bars. Because i use really heavy stuff, and fear it swings out of place when i hit. A music store guy called Geir, he said " Kevin, YUOu dont play drums, YOu beat the shit out of them " hehehe :) That was nicely said :)

Brent i have a single bass kit, with two up and two down, and snare. got any ideals on a set up for this style kit ?
I like the spider rack and yet i also like Shawn Fullers set up. is there anyway you can make a video with the kit set up i have with the style of Shawn Fullers kit ?
And yet still have Expend-ability if needed later adding a new kit with two bass drums .

The doppelganger looks so simple to tour with, yet steady and powerful as hell. Can it carry 1 ride, 4 crashes, 2 splashes and 2 china cymbals in it ?? (I play 2 rack Toms)
Avik Sanyal yes this set up will allow you to mount your 4 crashes, 2 splashes, 2 chinas, and 1 ride. If you need more space on either side, you can always add a GCS-150C side extension to either side.

Yamaha HexRack is still King. Especially the first generation with the spherical hex collars. Gibralter is not durable especially their cheap Chinese pot-metal clamps. Even overpriced DW hardware fails my needs. For all my other rack needs I buy 2-inch stainless tubing and put it through my tube bender. I use the Yamaha multi-toothed collared latest generation clamps, etc. Got tired of lousy Gibralter junk giving up the ghost. They crank out hardware for various drum manufacturers. I won't buy it. Your drums are only as good as the hardware holding them up. I've got tons of Yamaha HexRack. They've held up the mighty 70-80'sImperialstars, Slingerlands, 80's Superstars and Artstars, Gretch, Ludwig and over-priced DW's. After owning just about all the brands including Sonor and Premier I finally fell in love with the current set-up in my living room. A nine-piece Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute in Plum Stain and they put everything I've ever owned including DW Collectors to shame. Outstanding ranges sound! Crazy that I finally bought Yamaha drums thirty years after I started amassing about a ton's weight in Yamaha hardware and have for decades used 800 and 900 series Yamaha stands to mount my photographic lighting gear. All Yamaha is 7/8 inch friendly. The only Gibralter I owned was their 10mm ball mount tom holders because of their 7/8 inch down tubes. After modding the Tamas with Gauger (better built) RIMS on Yamaha the Gibralters are gone. You'll get much more bang with Yamaha. I know I did.
