Why do the pels need a new arena? It’s 20 years old only, and has been renovated recently. Can’t benson fund the renovation herself? She’s a multi billionaire

So long as Seattle and Las Vegas get NBA Expansion Teams and the Pelicans can get a new arena in New Orleans. Then the Pelicans will be safe in New Orleans.

As all fans of small-market teams know, the fact that the banker class members are even talking about the need for a new arena is a huge red flag for the Pels’ future prospects of staying here. (It’s like what the war profiteer slimeballs do ahead of conflicts like the various MidEast ones & the current Russia-Ukraine one.) This chatter is done to spook local residents into turning against the prospect of using tax dollars to build a clearly unnecessary new structure, which then gives ownership or future ownership an excuse to going to a bigger market. Over the years, the Pels have simply been cursed with the injury bug, as well as head coaches who are capable and dedicated, but far too laid-back and nice to motivate their players, plus being moved to the Western Conference as it was ascending to become the dominant one again. Our attendance numbers have actually been very impressive when factoring in the city’s small size (~385k), which means about one out of every 25 residents goes to each game. Think about the populations of L.A., Brooklyn, Houston, Chicago, etc. and look at their NBA teams’ relatively pathetic per capita attendance numbers. I do trust Gayle to keep the team(s) here.

All that matters is that they both stay in NOLA
