    According to the SNK wiki, Geon had an interesting story.
    In the first game he was a relic from the Cretaceous that was frozen within russian permafrost until bizarre weather patterns thawed him out. Apparently he had low blood pressure in the first game and was still enraged from being awoken several months later. In between games Geon ate irradiated meat from the monsters he defeated, so from Beetle Mania, Rocky and Poison Ghost. Which is hilarious because that means he ate literal rocks, poison sludge & a beetle-like alien's flesh and somehow this allowed him to mutate into the more spiky, draconic appearance seen here. Unlike Atomic Guy and Cyber Woo, Super Geon was just as bad as the aliens with his cruelty and endless appetite. The only thing he couldn't and probably wouldn't eat was Famardy himself.
    In Neo Geo Battle Coliseum one background of a stage shows the skeleton of Super Geon locked together with the equally lifeless hulk of the original Cyber Woo.
    Super Geon is canonically the strongest of the three protagonists of KOTM2 so I assume both Atomic Guy & Cyber Woo tried to stop Geon from turning his endless appetite on humanity and the world. I think Atomic guy was defeated but not before injuring Geon enough that he died at the same time as Woo in a draw.
    Ironically Atomic Guy is the only monster to survive, seemingly merging with Yuki & Ai Ultraman Ace style after losing most of his power & shrinking to his original human size prior to NeoGeo Battle Coliseum.
    R.I.P Super Geon, a bloodthirsty yet cool looking Godzilla rip-off.

      I mostly think geon only eats fish instead of eating everything on his path

      @@luisanunes4365Geon is never shown eating fish, or even being that aquatic.
      The only thing Geon eats in both games is the flesh of the other monsters in the first game which is how he mutated into Super Geon and the flesh of the aliens when he wins a grapple in KoTM 2. The wiki describes Super Geon as a " cruel monster with an endless appetite. ".

    With a tool-assisted speedrun, you were able to finish the last stage w/ 7 seconds left on the clock... what in the hell kind of expectations does this game have for people who can't slow the game down and play it 1 frame at a time?

    • @hawaiidkw1
      @hawaiidkw1 Před 8 lety +8

      The expectation is that you'll die a lot and have to continue a bunch of times, therefore allowing the game to make money.
      Seriously, that was the dominant paradigm for a long, _long_ time.

      For the last boss you have 99 of game timer , when he changes to second form you always have 12 so it seems enough to deal with it. The real problem is CPU cheats during grabs. Even with any kind of autofire CPU will not let you win when it decides to win.

      It's not even grapples being skewed toward the computer (although that is plenty annoying) so much as the amount of damage the later enemies can take. It was just like this for Pro Wrestling, WWF Superstars, WWF Wrestlefest, and to some extent Mutant Fighter. Even if you could reliably win, say, 60% of grapples, against the later opponents you'd still give out long before they did. (It's been a while since I checked, but IIRC the Legion of Doom has something like 300% stamina. _Each._) The only way for a TASer to get around this is to either 1. keep "rerolling" until getting a positive result, which, as you might imagine, takes a _lot_ of rerolls, or 2. win without grappling, much easier said than done since these types of games always implement some kind of defense against kung fu-ing your way to victory. That's why it takes so long to make these!

      Regarding the final scene, this is one of those "desperation finish" things a few games have (think Akkila-Orkhan's last stand in Warriors of Fate or the collapsing building at the end of Metal Slug 4), where you have one chance to complete the final task in a short time or get a bad ending. In this game, if you don't nail all the Famardy clones before time runs out, you're trapped in the volcano as it erupts, the game says that you're never seen again and the world returns to peace, "THE END?", and you get the game over screen with no credits.
      If you're actually good enough to get that far, it's certainly doable. You should have at least 3 ticks left when you finish up unless you get _super_ unlucky and one of those little bastards bounds way out of reach (which happened to me once). As with other desperation finishes, the real challenge is that you don't panic and flail all over the place.

    Awesome video! Would Super Geon's earthquake attack kill all the little Famardies?

    • @legionbeast
      @legionbeast Před 5 lety +2

      I've tested this, the answer is no because the mini Famardies are hopping all the time so they don't count as on the "ground" and the earthquake (and Atomic Guy's lighting) only hurt the opponents touching the ground.
