Rarely have i seen any LGBTQ+ Anime in the spotlight and here I have a bunch of shows with great queer representation in anime. Far too often, I see these characters as the butt of a joke so this video was a must.

I would really recommend Given to those who haven't watched it. It has a season and a movie. It takes you on a emotional rollercoaster.

I highly reccomend The Stranger By The Shore, Sasaki and Miyano, Yuri On Ice and SK8 The Infinity even though SK8 isn't technically a gay anime, there's SO much subtext and moments that it might as well be :) also Reki and Langa are the most precious adorable boys ever and the dub is epic ^-^

i would like to add on to this list sasaki to/and miyano (some versions list it as sasaki-to-miyano while still others list it as sasaki and miyano so..) it's this slowburn mushy gushy will-they-confess-will-they-not type romance between two boys who are into BL. it's really sweet, 10/10
where's Yuri On Ice though
this anime has been my comfort show every November (the depression month omg) since it first aired, I listen to the opening on goddamn repeat, it's lighthearted but also touches on some heavier themes (what if i'm not good enough to live my passion? what then?), really cool animation for the skating scenes, all around pretty goofy characters, loved it
started watching Given because of your recommendation and I'm a HUGE FAN
edit: I finished Given. It was fantastic. I'm currently watching BananaFish which is also amazing but in a completely different way
Banana fish author drew a previous work that also took place in America judging by the few drawings I saw. Unfortunately it never got TLed. Sometimes obscure work n°675 has to walk to that best known work can run.
I think given is the most beautiful anime ever, plus the songs that Mafuyu is singing... I've never cried that much over an anime... haha 😅

omg yess..! im usually not a huge fan of romance but this anime.. as you said, its seriously one of the most beautiful animes ever made (not to sound cheesy 😹) but fr tho, i just lovvvee that anime soo much!

The best yuri LN I've read and is currently an updating manga is "I Favor the Villainess." Best Isekai Ive ever seen. I hope it gets animated one day.

If you're in the comments section for more recommendations, let me introduce you to "stars align" (or "hoshiai no sora" in japanese). it's a wholesome 12 eps anime that tackles queerness. there's a main character who's questioning being nonbinary :)

Wandering Son is absolutely beautiful, the only gripe I have with it as a transmasc person however is the trans guy in it kinda…doesn’t really get properly represented imo compared to the trans girl protag. He ends up being misgendered a fair bit (at least in the subbed version I watched, it may have been a translation error) more than expected, and it’s implied at the end he’s just a tomboy girl. Which ofc, nothing wrong with detransitioning or portraying characters like that as it’s a v underrepresented experience, but given just how little media there is for transmasc stuff it felt p disappointing. Thankfully the trans girl gets v well written and a happy ending
This just appeared today on my recommendations. Sometimes the algorithm just gets me. I will check out the recommendations for sure, and maybe come back for the honorable mentions. Your emphasis on the shows not being fetishistic helps a lot (and a recommendation for a show featuring the T part of the LGBTQ+ part). There were some shows I kept watching despite the uncomfortableness because it seemed it was as good as we'd get in queer anime.
Great video, as always made my day! I personally recommend watching No. 6. This is one of the few anime that stuck in my memory for many years (for good reasons, not some twisted ones)

I recomend marimashita iruma-kun, is a shonen with great representation! Specialy on the manga. Non binary, gay, lesbian, trans, etc. I just love it
Given really was amazing. The songs and tories had me bawling eyes out. And that's saying something seeing as I rarely cry. This is my favorite anime next to fruits basket and MY Hero Academia.

idk, I LOVE Ouran, but there is some heavily implied ''predatory lesbian' characters in the Lobelia Girls' Academy episodes. I'd still recommend the series, but maybe not put it on this list.

I'd really love to recommend Wonder Egg Priority, but they absolutely borked the ending on that one. It was legit one of the most promising shows I'd ever seen. I'd still watch it again.
OTOH, Zombie Land Saga (ongoing, and a movie is coming soon) has been amazing on trans representation. And, literally everything else. It's just THAT good.

My favorite girl/girl relationship anime was Whispered Words (Japanese: ささめきこと, Sasameki Koto). It was interesting to watch how a relationship developed in a situation where they are very much in a very low profile identity. My only gripe was the lone season. I had to dig around online to read how the manga resolved and was very satisfied, especially with the manga author’s final commentary about Japan needing to get on board with the times and codify gay marriage rights.

I can recommend Kuragehime for an anime that challenges gender norms and Kino's Journey (the original is better, but the reboot is good too) if you want something with a badass non-binary protagonist.

Just started anime first one Was AOT I started the beginning of the month and finished a couple weeks ago and then went to watch Bloom Into You and Some other one I forgot the name of and finished Citrus and omg Citrus although it's about step sisters it was indeed an amazing love story and it's by far my favorite so much so I'm gonna go to barnes and nobles and get the complete manga and I just finished all the way up to the latest installation of Citrus+ and can't wait for more I'm just sad that most the yuris I watched so far only get 1 season most of them only 12 episodes I really wish we could get a season 2 of Citrus
