The t-word and its sister, the c-word are both HIGHLY offensive in the US. They are really sexist, but even if you don't care about sexism, you don't want to say or hear the words. I've spent a lot of time on Twitter where a lot of British people are in on the discussions, so I've been getting a little bit accustomed to them.
When I was young I asked Dawn French and Lenny Henry at the cinema if Dawn was who I thought she was. She replied "HURRY UP I DONT HAVE TIME. NO." I used to find her absolutely hilarious. Now I know better. Horrid woman.
