Such a great informative video. The Hermes runaround is exactly the reason that I chose to buy my birkin in my city, with my lovely SA who could not have been more accommodating and got me exactly what I wanted earlier this year, even though it is so much more expensive than Europe and I will be on vacation in Europe in a few weeks. I even made a video on how pleasant my experience was. I’m not opposed to applying for an appt online at the Paris boutiques and if I get an appointment then great but if not then I’m fine with purchasing in NYC. I refuse to wait on actual physical lines or play these kinds of games as much as I love the brand. So kudos to you for your determination!!! Gorgeous kelly!

Great video:) I tried my luck in Lyon and Bordeaux some years ago.....yuck, the guy I spoke to in Lyon was soo rude to me. I bought a scarf and a notebook, and just asked him about a Birkin after he asked me if there was something else I wanted to look at. At first he just looked at me shocked....and after a laaaang pause he just said...."why would you even ask me that......" like I had asked him to give me his children. loool. The SA's in Paris is always polite even if you get a bag or not :) Also had a weird experience in London this summer. My hubby walked in to ask for a Kelly pochette. The lady SA said she was sure she had a few in stock, and asked him to wait after he gave her a few spesifics on color and hard ware. She was gone for about 10 minutes. Then she came back empty handed and said she was so so sorry that she could not find any in stock after all. She then asked if there was any chance he was interested in any other type of Kellys? He said he could be interested in any small size like the Kelly 25 or the Kelly mini, maybe 28, but that he was unsure if (I the wife lol) thought it was too big. She then got very excited and said she thought she def had a Kelly 25, but she would bring back the sizes and color she had so he could compare. She would love helping him get a presant for his wife. She was then gone for a good 15- 20 minutes. Then finally she came back also this time empty handed telling him she only had wallets and a Hermes 2002-20 bag. All in all he was in there for about 45 minutes and left empty handed.This kind of games was much worse I think. He was prepared to leave the store after the first 10 minutes telling me the bad news, but it was the SA who kept him there giving him hope. And she was only talking about bags, not trying to give him hints about maybe buying other stuff like scarves, ties, belts or other items.
Wow Tingeling thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience, i'm so sorry to hear about the rude Lyon SA and the London SA which kept giving your husband false hope!!! They both sound like nasty people :( If it helps at all, in 2017 which i purchased my Birkin at the Paris flagship, the SA i had was quite hostile and intimidating so not all Paris customer service is friendly haha. Although i can't be too hard on her as she still gave me my very first Birkin! Are you thinking of trying again in the future? Really hope that you don't encounter anymore nasty games like this :(

Thanks for checking out my video :) Very valid point but the good news is that outside Paris, the whole process only takes roughly 10min maximum so it's not much of a commitment. In Paris, most people only try for an online appointment (i did the same on my first trip to the city) which only takes 1min a day. The Kelly 32 is my holy grail bag but I don’t think I will ever have the opportunity to buy a new one. But buying a vintage one that has seen better days and getting it refurbished might be a possibility one day. One can dream anyway.

I live in Australia too but I did see a video where Jerusha from Jerusha Courture sent her vintage Birkin to Leather Surgeons for refurbishment, so they obviously take international clients, which is very good news. There is also a luxury bag spa in Melbourne. The next time I need a bag repaired I will try them and see what they are like. They have been around for many years so that is a good sign.

Well if you want an Hermes bag, it sounds like the resell market would be your preferred method - you can get exactly what you want, no games involved. i definitely would be calling a birkin 35 in swift as a nearly impossible, any bag above 30 is quite “difficult” to place (by hermès standards of course) a Birkin 35 would definitely be considered (due its big size and heavy weight) more like either a men's bag (which makes the gold hardware a complete turnoff for that purpose) or a luggage piece (something that makes swift leather not very suitable).

Wow we're exactly the same height! Love that you adore your B35 - i used to always complain it was too large but now that i've put on 12kg/26 pounds during pregnancy, the bag doesn't overwhelm me anymore haha! For our height i always thought K25 or K28 would be perfect :) K32 would be harder to pull off crossbody/on the shoulder strap. @@cmk7585 I figured you are trying to reveal everything in the review video but I was so curious. 28 is a great size for most people, esp when Kellys don't hold as much as Birkins. Unfortunately the 28 I got is still too heavy and big for me. Kind of wishing now mini bags are not so popular. 😒 It wouldn't affect foreigners with the Vegas scenario bc the buying history is within US only but again I'm not sure how likely are they going to sell Birkin/Kelly to walk-ins. As for Hawaii, after Vegas I felt very much like a waste of time and didn't even want to try a third store. I also felt that SA was genuine in what she told me so unless it is a city I will go often and want to build my buying history there instead, I won't be trying anywhere else in US except my city bc I don't travel often and want to buy more than one bag. My SA would know if I buy somewhere else, there's no hiding it. I also don't have so much money to build up in multiple places hahah. Pregnancy looks good on you btw, you are glowing. XO
Wow what leather is your Kelly? In that case i'm grateful i got epsom because the 28 is quite lightweight. In that case you will hate my B35 haha, it weighs a tonne! What if you try asking for the Kelly as a gift for your mother's milestone birthday or your daughter's milestone? It helps a lot to have a story which emotionally connects for them. It sounds like the SA really wants to force you down the path of slowly-buying-slowly-waiting-until-you're-offered-a-kelly (at 1 chosen store) but what if you mention you've been trying to get on the waiting list in your local city and it's never open so you thought you'll try across states? That was always my excuse for not building up purchase history in Sydney

Hi THE TRAVELER thank you so much for watching and taking the time to share your experience, it's great to hear from you! 21 countries sounds like the best experience - sorry to hear you missed out on a birkin/kelly on that epic trip. I've been asked the price range question before so no problem :) I don't know your currency but i would say you want to budget minimum AUD$12k - ideally $15k in case you're offered a larger size, a more expensive model (like sellier Kelly) and if you have to buy an additional accessory (as a way to show your passion for the brand and gratitude to the SA since they don't earn commission on birkins/kellys). Not to mention this buffer can also be helpful IF you're asked by Customs to pay taxes when you return - this has not yet happened to me but if it did, that would be another 10%+. If the exchange rate is poor, you may want to increase your budget further to AUD$18k to be safe. However since SAs don't get commission from the birkin or kelly, it's a nice way for you to say thank you. I was going to mention it in my next month's Kelly review but i purchased 2 accessories alongside the bag - a twilly which i actually did want, to protect the handle, and a SLG in a matching colour which i have gifted to a friend. How do you start out the conversation? Like when the sa asks how they can help you today, do you say you are interested in a B/K right away or do you say “I’m looking for a bag” and hint at it while sliding in the things you mentioned in your script?

It's been a while since i watched my video but i believe the tip was to use another purchase as a conversation starter with the SA ie. if you're looking to buy another bag which is NOT the b/k, you can use that process to get chummy, show off your knowledge of Hermes & the lengths you have gone to for the brand. Purchasing something from Hermes (in your case a bag which is not b/k) proves your love for the brand and is the perfect segway into discussing whether a b/k is available. This doesn't work if you say you're looking for a bag and that bag is b/k - EVERYONE says that when they walk through the door so you need to prove yourself/set yourself apart. Hope that make sense? I haven't tuned in to your vids in a while; congrats on the baby (unless I misheard!). I'm now mortgaged and too poor to afford anything... I am going to France next month and actually spending a few days in Lyon. Not sure how that would affect my diet.... I've lost weight and cut out carbs for the past month and now not sure how I will survive in Lyon as I love eating! Anyway, I can just admire and look. I am interested to know whether you have ever declined an offer for a birkin or kelly that did not meet your requirements ad how the SA reacted to that? For me, if i am going to spend a huge amount, i do not want to settle for anything that they just offer me. Your thoughts on this please?
Hi kim8mis thanks for watching and great question! Typically every SA will ask you what type of birkin or kelly you are after - i have only ever met 1 SA which didn't ask at all and just went to check if they had stock. The purpose of the question is so that if you request a small Kelly in a bright colour with a particular leather or particular hardware, they will come back and say they don't have anything if there's no similar stock - even if there are Kellys in the back. This really minimises the possibility of a scenario where you will reject the bag they offer you. Although in my original FSH video, i did mention that although i wanted a neutral colour birkin, i was offered black (a colour i did not list) and size 35 (a size i did not list) so it does happen. Of course you can definitely reject the bag unless it's perfect, just for me personally i preferred to return home not empty-handed since Australia is so far away and Australian pricing for B/K about 30% higher

I know a lady who walked in her first time and spent six figures on furniture, clothes, and jewelry. She was really nice and made a point of expressing her gratitude for even being there. AFTER she was rung up, she told her SA that she knew a “B word” or “K word” were out of the question, but was there any other bags that the SA would recommend? She legit said “I don’t care what it is, but I want YOU to pick it so I can tell everyone my chic French friend selected my bag”. The SA took her to a separate room and got her a Birkin.
Hey tilky yes the constance is just as rare! I personally don't mention it much because - although classic - i find the design a little too conventional and somewhat boring. You mentioned that you didn't ask your husband to try along side with you, but in your first video where you detailed your B35 experience, I got the impression your husband was making his own appointments simultaneously to increase your chances of scoring. While this helps increase appointment probability, do you think SAs notice when couples come in together, but try to act alone in individual appointments? If they do notice, do you think it hurts because we may appear to be re-sellers wanting to score two bags in one visit (I guess the average genuine walk-in isn't trying to score more than one bag).
Hey there Winnie thanks so much for watching and great question! I think a genuine couple looks like a genuine couple (or mother & daughter duo etc). I don't think Hermes sees couples as suspicious as it happens all the time - whenever i wait in line, i see a whole family coming together for the appointment that 1 person has successfully booked, or a girlfriend/boyfriend couple claiming an appointment which the girl has booked. I think the policy is just so Hermes SA can know WHO they are serving eg. If the husband gets the appointment, the SA will keep their focus and eye contact and conversation on the husband the entire time no matter how the wife keeps interjecting and saying what type of bag she wants. The allocated time is for the one who is registered for the appointment. And at payment, the same person must pay with their credit card/passport for tax etc. In Bordeaux on one of my visits, my friend accompanied me. Since the SA (who i spoke with the day before) knew I was the one who wanted the Kelly, he ignored my friend entirely. Not polite but i presume Paris SAs will do something similar - keep their focus on the one who is registered for the appointment and it's up to that person alone to successfully convince the SA
@@cmk7585 Thanks for getting back to me. I've seen some suggestions elsewhere that husbands shopping alone for their wives can be a successful tactic. Less likely to happen for the FSH location, but if my husband and I went to GV and Sevres each morning and actually both scored appointments, 2 attempts are better than 1 attempt? Not planning to shop as a couple, but individually to increase our chances, unless it might look strange or even greedy that we're working separately.
Hey W. R. thanks for clarifying and sorry i misinterpreted your question! I don't see why you can't do what you're proposing. I have to admit when i did line up physically, everyone i saw seemed to be happy to share an appointment together at GV but nothing stops you both from splitting up in the line and having 2, separate chances from one another. Maybe the reason why people still share an appointment at GV or Sevres is because the service policy seems more flexible eg. The day after i scored my Kelly, i visited GV again with my friend from London. The appointment was under her passport but i still got to ask her SA to show me another bag i was interested in and he seemed happy to engage with both of us. So yes do what you're planning and good luck!
I would just make one myself... It takes about 24 hours and the materials cost far far less than the asking price by Hermes, It would look exactly the same, handmade, and of the same materials.

Question, but how much do you put for a budget towards a Birkin/Kelly? I’m scared to try for one only to find out the one they offer is way over budget for me. A rough estimate would be really helpful!
Hey there ramune thanks so much for watching and great question! Which currency do you use? For such a large purchase the foreign exchange is a big factor eg. Right now Australian dollar has been TERRIBLE so while i used to budget $12K AUD, on this trip i budgeted $15K AUD purely due to low currency exchange. Generally the bag itself can be considered around 10K (depending on what currency we are talking) but you should add a couple thousand extra just in case you're offered a larger size or more expensive leather type or end up buying an accessory which is more pricey or your credit card already has some spending on it so you want some room. It's worth remembering that your SA doesn't earn commission from a B/K so the best way to say thank you (and to show that you do love Hermes products) is to pick up something small alongside the bag. I touched on this topic in my original 'How to buy a birkin' video - if you want a different bag, such as Lindy, you go through the same challenges to secure an appointment in the bag department (like having to line up outside the store early OR trying to get an online appointment at the flagship store) so yes, to answer your question, for any Hermes store in Paris, you must book an appointment. However if you try outside Paris, you can just walk-in and ask, it's not that busy/competitive. There should be a lot more Lindy stock, especially in Paris with 3 stores so i would say you shouldn't be concerned. Hey there My Daily Life thanks for stopping by! Yes i mentioned it in my video - Rue de Sevres store also requires you to physically line up to receive an appointment timeslot. The earliest patrons (first 10 or 15 in queue?) are given an SA on the spot once the store opens - otherwise you are told to come back later as per your allotted time. Such a great informative video. The Hermes runaround is exactly the reason that I chose to buy my birkin in my city, with my lovely SA who could not have been more accommodating and got me exactly what I wanted earlier this year, even though it is so much more expensive than Europe and I will be on vacation in Europe in a few weeks. I even made a video on how pleasant my experience was. I’m not opposed to applying for an appt online at the Paris boutiques and if I get an appointment then great but if not then I’m fine with purchasing in NYC. I refuse to wait on actual physical lines or play these kinds of games as much as I love the brand. So kudos to you for your determination!!! Gorgeous kelly!

Great video:) I tried my luck in Lyon and Bordeaux some years ago.....yuck, the guy I spoke to in Lyon was soo rude to me. I bought a scarf and a notebook, and just asked him about a Birkin after he asked me if there was something else I wanted to look at. At first he just looked at me shocked....and after a laaaang pause he just said...."why would you even ask me that......" like I had asked him to give me his children. loool. The SA's in Paris is always polite even if you get a bag or not :) Also had a weird experience in London this summer. My hubby walked in to ask for a Kelly pochette. The lady SA said she was sure she had a few in stock, and asked him to wait after he gave her a few spesifics on color and hard ware. She was gone for about 10 minutes. Then she came back empty handed and said she was so so sorry that she could not find any in stock after all. She then asked if there was any chance he was interested in any other type of Kellys? He said he could be interested in any small size like the Kelly 25 or the Kelly mini, maybe 28, but that he was unsure if (I the wife lol) thought it was too big. She then got very excited and said she thought she def had a Kelly 25, but she would bring back the sizes and color she had so he could compare. She would love helping him get a presant for his wife. She was then gone for a good 15- 20 minutes. Then finally she came back also this time empty handed telling him she only had wallets and a Hermes 2002-20 bag. All in all he was in there for about 45 minutes and left empty handed.This kind of games was much worse I think. He was prepared to leave the store after the first 10 minutes telling me the bad news, but it was the SA who kept him there giving him hope. And she was only talking about bags, not trying to give him hints about maybe buying other stuff like scarves, ties, belts or other items.

They both sound like nasty people :( If it helps at all, in 2017 which i purchased my Birkin at the Paris flagship, the SA i had was quite hostile and intimidating so not all Paris customer service is friendly haha. Although i can't be too hard on her as she still gave me my very first Birkin! Are you thinking of trying again in the future? Really hope that you don't encounter anymore nasty games like this :(

Thanks for checking out my video :) Very valid point but the good news is that outside Paris, the whole process only takes roughly 10min maximum so it's not much of a commitment. In Paris, most people only try for an online appointment (i did the same on my first trip to the city) which only takes 1min a day. I live in Australia too but I did see a video where Jerusha from Jerusha Courture sent her vintage Birkin to Leather Surgeons for refurbishment, so they obviously take international clients, which is very good news. There is also a luxury bag spa in Melbourne. The next time I need a bag repaired I will try them and see what they are like. They have been around for many years so that is a good sign.

i definitely would be calling a birkin 35 in swift as a nearly impossible, any bag above 30 is quite “difficult” to place (by hermès standards of course) a Birkin 35 would definitely be considered (due its big size and heavy weight) more like either a men's bag (which makes the gold hardware a complete turnoff for that purpose) or a luggage piece (something that makes swift leather not very suitable).

Wow we're exactly the same height! Love that you adore your B35 - i used to always complain it was too large but now that i've put on 12kg/26 pounds during pregnancy, the bag doesn't overwhelm me anymore haha! For our height i always thought K25 or K28 would be perfect :) K32 would be harder to pull off crossbody/on the shoulder strap. @@cmk7585 I figured you are trying to reveal everything in the review video but I was so curious. 28 is a great size for most people, esp when Kellys don't hold as much as Birkins. Unfortunately the 28 I got is still too heavy and big for me. Kind of wishing now mini bags are not so popular. 😒 It wouldn't affect foreigners with the Vegas scenario bc the buying history is within US only but again I'm not sure how likely are they going to sell Birkin/Kelly to walk-ins. As for Hawaii, after Vegas I felt very much like a waste of time and didn't even want to try a third store. I also felt that SA was genuine in what she told me so unless it is a city I will go often and want to build my buying history there instead, I won't be trying anywhere else in US except my city bc I don't travel often and want to buy more than one bag. Wow what leather is your Kelly? In that case i'm grateful i got epsom because the 28 is quite lightweight. In that case you will hate my B35 haha, it weighs a tonne! What if you try asking for the Kelly as a gift for your mother's milestone birthday or your daughter's milestone? It helps a lot to have a story which emotionally connects for them. It sounds like the SA really wants to force you down the path of slowly-buying-slowly-waiting-until-you're-offered-a-kelly (at 1 chosen store) but what if you mention you've been trying to get on the waiting list in your local city and it's never open so you thought you'll try across states? That was always my excuse for not building up purchase history in Sydney

Hi THE TRAVELER thank you so much for watching and taking the time to share your experience, it's great to hear from you! 21 countries sounds like the best experience - sorry to hear you missed out on a birkin/kelly on that epic trip. I've been asked the price range question before so no problem :) I don't know your currency but i would say you want to budget minimum AUD$12k - ideally $15k in case you're offered a larger size, a more expensive model (like sellier Kelly) and if you have to buy an additional accessory (as a way to show your passion for the brand and gratitude to the SA since they don't earn commission on birkins/kellys). Not to mention this buffer can also be helpful IF you're asked by Customs to pay taxes when you return - this has not yet happened to me but if it did, that would be another 10%+. If the exchange rate is poor, you may want to increase your budget further to AUD$18k to be safe. However since SAs don't get commission from the birkin or kelly, it's a nice way for you to say thank you. I was going to mention it in my next month's Kelly review but i purchased 2 accessories alongside the bag - a twilly which i actually did want, to protect the handle, and a SLG in a matching colour which i have gifted to a friend. How do you start out the conversation? Like when the sa asks how they can help you today, do you say you are interested in a B/K right away or do you say “I’m looking for a bag” and hint at it while sliding in the things you mentioned in your script?

It's been a while since i watched my video but i believe the tip was to use another purchase as a conversation starter with the SA ie. if you're looking to buy another bag which is NOT the b/k, you can use that process to get chummy, show off your knowledge of Hermes & the lengths you have gone to for the brand. Purchasing something from Hermes (in your case a bag which is not b/k) proves your love for the brand and is the perfect segway into discussing whether a b/k is available. This doesn't work if you say you're looking for a bag and that bag is b/k - EVERYONE says that when they walk through the door so you need to prove yourself/set yourself apart. Hope that make sense? I am going to France next month and actually spending a few days in Lyon. Not sure how that would affect my diet.... I've lost weight and cut out carbs for the past month and now not sure how I will survive in Lyon as I love eating! Anyway, I can just admire and look. Hi kim8mis thanks for watching and great question! Typically every SA will ask you what type of birkin or kelly you are after - i have only ever met 1 SA which didn't ask at all and just went to check if they had stock. The purpose of the question is so that if you request a small Kelly in a bright colour with a particular leather or particular hardware, they will come back and say they don't have anything if there's no similar stock - even if there are Kellys in the back. This really minimises the possibility of a scenario where you will reject the bag they offer you. Although in my original FSH video, i did mention that although i wanted a neutral colour birkin, i was offered black (a colour i did not list) and size 35 (a size i did not list) so it does happen. Of course you can definitely reject the bag unless it's perfect, just for me personally i preferred to return home not empty-handed since Australia is so far away and Australian pricing for B/K about 30% higher

I know a lady who walked in her first time and spent six figures on furniture, clothes, and jewelry. She was really nice and made a point of expressing her gratitude for even being there. AFTER she was rung up, she told her SA that she knew a “B word” or “K word” were out of the question, but was there any other bags that the SA would recommend? She legit said “I don’t care what it is, but I want YOU to pick it so I can tell everyone my chic French friend selected my bag”. The SA took her to a separate room and got her a Birkin.

Hey tilky yes the constance is just as rare! I personally don't mention it much because - although classic - i find the design a little too conventional and somewhat boring. Although saying that, i am completely obsessed with the Autumn/winter 2019 Constance belt bag that is about to be released!!! So hoping to get my hands on that if i'm lucky. You mentioned that you didn't ask your husband to try along side with you, but in your first video where you detailed your B35 experience, I got the impression your husband was making his own appointments simultaneously to increase your chances of scoring. While this helps increase appointment probability, do you think SAs notice when couples come in together, but try to act alone in individual appointments? If they do notice, do you think it hurts because we may appear to be re-sellers wanting to score two bags in one visit (I guess the average genuine walk-in isn't trying to score more than one bag).
Hey there Winnie thanks so much for watching and great question! I think a genuine couple looks like a genuine couple (or mother & daughter duo etc). I don't think Hermes sees couples as suspicious as it happens all the time - whenever i wait in line, i see a whole family coming together for the appointment that 1 person has successfully booked, or a girlfriend/boyfriend couple claiming an appointment which the girl has booked. I think the policy is just so Hermes SA can know WHO they are serving eg. If the husband gets the appointment, the SA will keep their focus and eye contact and conversation on the husband the entire time no matter how the wife keeps interjecting and saying what type of bag she wants. The allocated time is for the one who is registered for the appointment. And at payment, the same person must pay with their credit card/passport for tax etc.
In Bordeaux on one of my visits, my friend accompanied me. Since the SA (who i spoke with the day before) knew I was the one who wanted the Kelly, he ignored my friend entirely. Not polite but i presume Paris SAs will do something similar - keep their focus on the one who is registered for the appointment and it's up to that person alone to successfully convince the SA
@@cmk7585 Thanks for getting back to me. I've seen some suggestions elsewhere that husbands shopping alone for their wives can be a successful tactic. Less likely to happen for the FSH location, but if my husband and I went to GV and Sevres each morning and actually both scored appointments, 2 attempts are better than 1 attempt? Not planning to shop as a couple, but individually to increase our chances, unless it might look strange or even greedy that we're working separately.
Hey W. R. thanks for clarifying and sorry i misinterpreted your question! I don't see why you can't do what you're proposing. I have to admit when i did line up physically, everyone i saw seemed to be happy to share an appointment together at GV but nothing stops you both from splitting up in the line and having 2, separate chances from one another. Maybe the reason why people still share an appointment at GV or Sevres is because the service policy seems more flexible eg. The day after i scored my Kelly, i visited GV again with my friend from London. The appointment was under her passport but i still got to ask her SA to show me another bag i was interested in and he seemed happy to engage with both of us. So yes do what you're planning and good luck!

Question, but how much do you put for a budget towards a Birkin/Kelly? I’m scared to try for one only to find out the one they offer is way over budget for me. A rough estimate would be really helpful!
Hey there ramune thanks so much for watching and great question! Which currency do you use? For such a large purchase the foreign exchange is a big factor eg. Right now Australian dollar has been TERRIBLE so while i used to budget $12K AUD, on this trip i budgeted $15K AUD purely due to low currency exchange. Generally the bag itself can be considered around 10K (depending on what currency we are talking) but you should add a couple thousand extra just in case you're offered a larger size or more expensive leather type or end up buying an accessory which is more pricey or your credit card already has some spending on it so you want some room. It's worth remembering that your SA doesn't earn commission from a B/K so the best way to say thank you (and to show that you do love Hermes products) is to pick up something small alongside the bag. Hope this helps!

I touched on this topic in my original 'How to buy a birkin' video - if you want a different bag, such as Lindy, you go through the same challenges to secure an appointment in the bag department (like having to line up outside the store early OR trying to get an online appointment at the flagship store) so yes, to answer your question, for any Hermes store in Paris, you must book an appointment. However if you try outside Paris, you can just walk-in and ask, it's not that busy/competitive. There should be a lot more Lindy stock, especially in Paris with 3 stores so i would say you shouldn't be concerned. The earliest patrons (first 10 or 15 in queue?) are given an SA on the spot once the store opens - otherwise you are told to come back later as per your allotted time.
