    i just recieved this knife today !
    its a very good quality knife but the black coating is the worst i have ever seen.
    my hands were black from just touching the blade, i rubbed the blade with cleaning alcohol off but it didnt got better.
    if you will be cutting food with this blade REMOVE THE COATING !!!!!
    besides the very bad black coating i am very happy with the knife.
    beware if you live in europe (im in austria) you have to pay customs. i payed 40 euro

    Nice knife. I wish knife companies would make a blade choil that lines up with the handle. If they made it like a 1/4" deeper, it'd line up where your fingers meat the handle, would make it a bit more comfortable and be a bit safer. You rarely see a finger choil that lines up with the handle, from any company.

    ESEE and TOPS get away with having great warranties by offering value materials at premium prices. I own and appreciate both of these brands but let's be honest.

    • @nathannettik455
      @nathannettik455 Před 4 lety

      @@Leviathan-mj8gi great points, I'm simply referring to the cost of the materials. Go to any knife making website and compare the cost of 1095 to 3V, M4 or 80CRV2. Those are all premium steels that outperform 1095 regardless of heat treat.

    • @ssunfish
      @ssunfish Před 3 lety

      They " get away" with warranties? And "premium prices"? I can't accept your statements when I don't agree with these two points! Premium prices? Compared to chinese knives? You both sound like the worst kinds of cheapskates when you complain about the prices on TOPS Knives. You think the price of the steel or handle material is any barometer of final price?? You don't know enough! If you have to ask, you won't understand the answer! Lawyers and advertising are 90% of the costs passed into consumers. Lawyers and advertising add no value or function to said goods and services. But no business can do without bec the competition has them. Lawyers are the cost of doing business and they are why everything costs ten times what they are worth. Stop laying it at the feet of businesses and put the blame where it belongs!!! Get mad at greedy sap sucker lawyers, not companies!

  • @pleitrap7073
    @pleitrap7073 Před 4 lety +1

    I don't believe that you addressed the heat treatment of the ESEE as opposed to the Elbrus, sufficiently. Work Tuff heat treatment of SK85 seems to exceed that of the ESEE 6 in 1095 in a couple of ways. Perhaps that may explain the differential in cost and why the Work Tuff is not a $100 knife!

  • @ssunfish
    @ssunfish Před 3 lety

    I've known about some knives are survival knife and that's not the same as bushcrafter. I have mostly hunting knives because they are good general purpose utility tools. I have a Trekker, which I didn't know was a type. Recently I added a tomahawk and barong style knife. The knife is eight inches blade. I think it could be a survival knife, but not for batoning. I think I would get my hands on a survival knife if there was any chance I'd get lost or stranded. Is a survival knife an emergencies only item? My new gear is a TOPS Ucon Hawk and Earth Skills Knife. With both of them I have a lot of bases covered. What one can't handle the other can.

    Now that you have had a chance to handle the lionsteel M7 what do you think of it compared to the Elbrus? Its similar weight obviously the M7 is less "stabby" but for general mid weight knife tasks how does the M7 compare is it better in your opinion? If so does it justify the increased price VS the Elbrus? Would appreciate any thoughts.

    Work tuff gear is becoming a company one does not want to support. I have messaged them multiple times and they never reply. Makes you think how effective they will be to uphold their warranty. I tried to get a Puzon splatter edition. They were sold out in 5min and only 12 went on sale. Later all my complaints got Victor Lin’s attention. He told me that only 12 units from a previous batch went on sale and I must keep in mind the splatter edition is a limited edition. They are trying to get 300 units for October.
    The thing is I would like to have a puzon for a up and coming survival and bushcraft trip that would be main chopper. Now I will have to settle for a knife that I dont really want. Work tuff is playing a dangerous game of being exclusive. It will their downfall.

    • @bobinmontana777
      @bobinmontana777 Před 4 lety

      LeviathanKnifeandTool Works: I kayak and camp, hunt in rain and snow, clean fish & game and use my knife on food in camp. Through the 80s I dealt with rust on my knives. Then in the 90s until present day metal G has come along way in providing super steals with properties that make them stainless or semi stainless.All of the aforementioned activities used to cause rust on my blades. No more, I am glad to live in the present and use high end equipment and materials. Call personal preference if you will but I prefer non-rusty blades. Lets be honest, design has stepped up greatly, yet the tendency for manufacturers is to use easily tooled and cheaper steels to keep prices down. However when a sprint run in a super steel drops and sells out in minutes, obviously a lot of people want the improved performance and less rust prone steels.
