A few days ago, I stood up to a friend and we're not talking anymore. Now that was a first, I hadn't even realised I was such a big people-pleaser before standing up for myself. Since then, we are not on talking terms and I had been thinking whether what I did was too extreme or not. CZcams somehow knew they had to show this in my feed and I cannot be more grateful. Thank you Ron for making this, you've made my life better. 💜
Going through something similar. My friend apologized for getting so upset but now I’m wondering if I should keep them in my life because me saying no should have never been that big of a deal for them to try and cause all the drama they did. I wanna forgive because we all make mistakes but wow.
Hi Ron. Your speaking to me! Here is what I think. 1. Listen to your gut even if it doesn’t make sense immediately. 2. Be kind vs nice. People walk all over nice people. 3. Always make sure your on the list. You don’t have to be number 1 all the time but be on the list 4. Know what is self care for you. It’s different for everyone. 5. Always stay true to your values. Not societal values or things you think you should value. These are my thoughts. I have been a people pleaser for years and it didn’t serve me well. Remember when you change everything changes. We can only control s. Thank oh so much Ron... your the real deal!
I love all of the value you continue to add in the comments! It’s awesome! I can also relate you #2. When I was younger a lot of so called “friends” I had took advantage of my niceness. You’re absolutely right. Be kind.. vs nice! I appreciate your compliment as well, thank you so much!!
Along with the ability to telling people o no, also remember that you owe no one an explanation as to why you can't do something. Either way the answer is no so what difference does it make? 🤷🏽♀️ An explanation is an added bonus IF I feel like sharing the why.
Side note: once you start setting HARD boundaries people if you life will start to become slim to none and you freaky realize who really truly cares deeply for you. People pleasing is toxic once you remove people pleading from your life and set boundaries the people whom benefited from this toxicity will drop out of your life! This was a great video
I just learned something new to me about people pleasing, is that we seem so nice to other people that we afraid that people won’t think we are nice people if we didn’t agree with them. We put our courtesy before our own comfort that is when our inner voice seems to differ with our reason. So I freed myself this week that i don’t care what other people think, I will be me first!!!
This hits on every downfall of a people pleaser. This people pleaser needed this today. I very much appreciate you and your videos! Thank you for the download too! 😃
Yes, Core Values. JOB in Bible had to learn that! He lost everything, what He thought were his Family They laughed & scorned him how shocking are some. Yet after he learned to Value Himself after he almost died & had boils from head to toe, was blessed with a True loving family & many assets. Why cause he learned the Value of Himself, self worth & having boundaries But He Had To Hit Rock Bottom To Get Their....peace n love to Jobs example ;) Thank You blessings.
Your video appeared in my feed, especially while I've became resentful for always people pleasing and going against my own will because of fear of disappointing them and anxiety. Also not knowing what to do or say to the person I do not feel like talking to. You are so right; thank you so much.
I particularly like this mini series of yours. I am practicing these tips, because I know my quality of life depends on it. Unfortunately I will recognize myself mirroring people and chameleon depending on who is around me, I will lose my sense of self. I recognize I fear negative consequences. Rationally I know it most likely won‘t happen or if it‘s not that catastrophic. But emotionally I am conditioned f.e. voicing negative feelings was always punished in my home, so standing up for myself is hard because I will get nervous, shaky etc. It is annoying and irritating to my sense of self which I am strengthening. I mention this because it aligns with your points. :)
Thanks for sharing this Sara! I appreciate your openness. Keep growing and learning on your journey. The more you try the easier it’ll get and the more confidence and strength you’ll gain! You got this!
I am exactly in a point of my life where your videos are what I need. I am the oldest child in my family who has always had to look out for everybody because I was told that that was my role. Now as a grown adult myself I realized that is no longer my role I can help when possible but that's not my role or my responsibility and it possibly never really was to the extent that I was made to believe. I am now responsible for myself my well-being my happiness and that of my husband my and my granddaughter and my daughter. But for many cultures your family of origin continues to be your obligation before anything else which makes it pretty much impossible to live your own life. Thank you for your words of wisdom.
Thanks for the feedback! I’m working to make them longer without dragging the message out without giving value! Keep growing on your journey DuckPin2011
Thank u for making this video..i listen to it over and over through the days t helps me set my boundaries with everyone and everything. In situations at work etc. When I feel worthless I constantly repeat these steps in my head..reminds me the truth of happiness is within.
I struggle with "people pleasing" and it's because a lot of ppl around me don't handle confrontation or critique well. If it's a friend, an intense disagreement could kill the night or make things awkward, if its a co-worker, it could create tension at work. Whereas I can handle correction, critique or a subtle jab, let it roll off the shoulder and continue on. When I do assert myself around certain ppl, I'm made to feel like an asshole. It's a personality trait called "agreeable".. I don't care for it, but in a professional setting there are obviously things you need to take into account before addressing a colleague or superior. I'm 36 and still searching for the zone where you're firm, fair and professional without coming off as arrogant or offensive all together. I guess it varies from person to person
I truly needed this and right now. Because I’m going through my feelings and it’s like i don’t mind helping people but i have to speak up and say no sometimes
Oh my goodness, i'm about to establish a boundary with my parents and describe how a decision they've just made regarding my own time (my resource) without consulting me is crossing a boundary. I had to squash away all the other thoughts that usually want me to keep the peace, after about 48 hours ruminating on if this is the right thing to do i just realised boundary setting begins at home and the consequences of not setting one in a healthy manner has split its way into my career and friendships over DECADES! I am filled with resentment and often wonder why i'm not best friends with people/or progressing and seen as adept and leader type material in my career since i smile and keep the peace all the time... there's actually a bitterness that rises within me when i "keep the peace" after being stepped on. If i want to get closer to people i should speak the truth in love. Wish me luck, this could go weird or wonderful.
Usually one of the first boundaries young adults have to establish. It's almost a rite of passage of sorts especially for those of us returning home from college. It will be awkward at first but necessary. Best of luck!
Keep growing Kim, you’re absolutely right... the more you do it the easier it gets. You also learn so much about yourself and why you really value in life!
Thank you so much for this! I consider myself to be a people pleaser. I have been trying to learn how to stand by my values more and to stick up for myself. Hearing this really clicked for me.
These are good tips. Knowing how you feel and speaking up don't come naturally to me. I have to intentionally do those things and when I do, it makes a big difference. Minimalism helps me here because I have less things distracting me when I need to reflect. Thanks Ronald
I'm going to share this with my clients today. I'm a therapist at a men's inpatient treatment facility for mental health and substance use disorders. Thanks so much, Ron!
I'm definitely a people pleasing and find it hard sometimes to say no and set my boundaries, This is why I feel angry , overwhelmed , exhausted and guilty at the end! Ronald can't thank you enough on how easy , clear and kind your words speak to my ears! I highly appreciate for the work you share! Love love love your energy , voice , content and your clear eyes. Keep up the great work man! Peace from Greece 🙏💖😊
I think us people pleasing we lack sometimes a bit of confidence or we feel vulnerable and we need everybody to like us so much. A good way to solve it is to understand that its ok if somebody doesn't like you. Eventualy selflove is what will bring more love into your life. The guy frm this video is giving amazing advice and brings an amazing energy.
I loved this video. It more then helped me and cleared my perception of issues, people and inconveniences that bogged me down and slowed down my progress towards things that I really cared about.
I’m so happy this message spoke to you and helped you. I hope you continue to build clarity around this issue and take control of your surroundings. You got this. I learned early on that people pleasing was a road I did not want to travel down. I’m glad you’re making the same decision!
All excellent tips. I have always been a people pleaser. The last few years I have been working on it. For me it started with being the youngest of 5 children. Everyone else in my family were extroverts, except for myself & my Dad who are introverts. It took 53 years before I really realized the effect it has on you. I still struggle speaking up to a couple of people but over all, it has really improved.
Kim Porter, I can relate to your comment cause my dad and I were so very much alike living amongst toxic people. I'm 57 yrs young and have been pushing forward to be me for a very long time. Then, these videos made it so much easier to do it cause Ron speaks the plain truth and from experience. Thanks for sharing your comment 😊. Peace.
Thank you for your videos, this is my first visit and I am happy I found them! Thanks also for the free worksheet! I'm subscribed now and looking forward to watching more. I rather prefer listening to male narrators on these subjects... you don't waste words and candy coat things as much but just get straight to the nitty gritty! Excellent stuff, just when I needed it.
If as you say you are very outspoken this may not be the talk for you.Very outspoken people can end up trampling over others and being quite toxic. You may need the balance of sensitivity co sideration and kindness.Otherwise you will be someone e else's toxic person.
For the longest time people have been running over me because am too nice. I lived with a toxic roommate in college and its funny how l tolerated her constant attacks on my esteem and confidence because l didn't want to date. I don't know why she felt that l should be heart broken to have experience in dating like her. She called me "over principled". Actually l had my reasons for not dating and not fear of heartbreaks. Never understand why it bothered her and she had to use it to attack me.
Ronald. Thanks for this video brother. You’re a breath of fresh air. I love that you are always growing and learning and sharing with others. I am currently on a major journey of self love and a working through past life trauma and breaking free of bondages that are holding me back. There is always hope if there is growth. Your videos are helpful. Keep it up. Thanks!
I’m really excited and happy for you Abigail! I actually wrote a poetry book titled break the bondage so I can definitely relate to where you’re coming from. Keep growing and learning on your journey! I love it!
Wow ! Thank you ! You have been the most inspirational person in my life I am so grateful to be able to hear your kind words didn’t think one person could inspire people in so many ways . When I was young I used to write my feeling emotions and express them it helped thanks for reminding me to write and care for myself and forgive and be true to myself .
Hey Ron! You did get real. Your intro is hilarious lol. All the pointers are true and minimal to the point. I especially love the self care and knowing your value points. For me, caring for my needs and knowing how important I am to me sets the first three points in place. That's what works for me. I really needed to hear this cause I thought I was being a little self absorbed, but now I know I'm not. Just on the right path (smile). I love this video. Thanks for sharing and helping us to journey together. Peace.

Wow Ron…. I needed this one today. Thank you!!! I struggle setting boundaries and when I do my family doesn’t know what to think. They then start with name calling.
You are the highlight of my day now Watching your videos helps me find myself and what I want They helped me get my life together Ive watched this series twice already!
It's hard to set boundaries with so many chaotic people. Being nice is like feeding a stray animal; you can't get rid of them .
A few days ago, I stood up to a friend and we're not talking anymore. Now that was a first, I hadn't even realised I was such a big people-pleaser before standing up for myself. Omg! Me too! Oldest child.....Im SPEAKING UP
Thank you bro for enlightening us 💯🤝🙏. I was a peoples'pleaser but every time when I please people I'm the one hurting the most

To the person reading this, repeat after me:
Boundaries teach people how to love and care for me. It deepens intimacy and love.

Keep working on it and keep growing Kim! I’m excited for you. Remember the more you do it the easier it gets!

Thanks Ron for this talk. I am very outspoken. The are certain things I will not tolerate and I tell people
