Don’t Carbonate Citrus Juice Until You Watch This Video

  • This video documents my attempt to make a delicious homemade orange soda using only fresh squeezed juice, carbon dioxide, and a new type of carbonator. You can find the carbonator here: fruitmentor.com/fizz
    Ever since I was 8 years old I have fantasized about drinking an orange soda like Orange Crush from the early 20th century when it came in brown bottles and actually contained oranges. I have a vivid memory of asking my grandfather about a case of empty brown bottles that I discovered in his workshop. At that time orange soft drinks were no longer made of oranges and my grandfather told me how they used to be. Since then many new carbonated orange drinks have been introduced that do contain citrus juices, but I have not yet had any that I thought were very good. The addition of the orange juice in these modern fizzy drinks seems to be more of a marketing gimmick than a recreation of the drink that I had imagined.
    I have learned about so many delicious citrus fruits and for the past couple of years I have been experimenting with the carbonation of some delicious citrus fruit juices. I have carbonated orange juice, blood orange juice, mandarin juice, and many other citrus juices. Carbonating citrus juice presents some challenges, but in this video I summarize how to do it without making a mess. Now that I have succeeded in making delicious carbonated pure citrus juices, I suspect that they are much better than even the Orange Crush in a brown bottle that I was never able to try.
    My daughter and I have had so much fun experimenting with carbonating various fruit juices that we decided to make a new CZcams channel where we would post some of our experiments carbonating various fruit juices, fruits, and other things. If you are interested in this topic you may enjoy some of our videos linked below.

    Just a tip for anyone reading this, if you juice a bunch of mandarins and end up with something like this 2:28, you can purée two or three of those halves and mix in with something like a pound cake batter to make a killer mandarin cake. It's that simple. Don't let those go to waste.

      Thank you for the tip! I was able to locate it in the foreign foods section of a local grocery store. It is the best commercial orange soda that I’ve ever had! Not as good as what I made for this video, but maybe halfway between what I made and an orange Fanta - like the two were mixed together.

    • @Fruitmentor
      @Fruitmentor  Před rokem +1

      The juicer was my grandmother's. It is at least 50 years old, but I don't know how much older it might be. I'm sure they used it to juice fruit from their citrus trees in Florida in the early 70s. I'm not sure when they bought the house in Florida, but I suspect that it was in the 60s. Probably they bought the juicer in Florida when they got the house and had their own citrus trees. Anyway, I really love it because of how it looks even though some modern juicers may be more practical.

Also, you can refill the co2 tank for dirt cheap with dry ice czcams.com/video/BVlVqNQXJTk/video.html If you have difficulties taking the top off the tank you can spray it with Wd-40 and wait a half an hour or so before trying to open it.

    • @Fruitmentor
      @Fruitmentor  Před 21 dnem

      Thank you! I doubt that the carbonation would harm the vitamin c as vitamin c is an acid and the carbonation just adds a bit of carbonic acid. But for the best health benefit it would probably be best to just eat the fruit and not juice it at all!
