Can't stop binging this channel, absolutely what was needed, just the artists body of work with no interpretation or interruption. If you are open to suggestions I would love to see a Gregory Crewdson episode. Keep up the good work!

I looked closely at some videos of Gary Winogrand shooting both in New York and LA in the late 70s and early 80s. Each time he took a shot he looked through the viewfinder, even if for a fraction of a second. He told his students in a seminar in NYC in 1976, if you you shoot from the hip or without looking through the viewfinder you lose control of the image. I thought that was very unusual considering how quickly he captured what he was seeing.

I learned from this video that if you want to get to know the United States, you have to look at Garry Winogrand's pictures. They capture the essence of daily life in America with astounding accuracy.

Check out the image at 3.49 - clearly in the UK. Driving on the left with cars like the Ford Cortina/Anglia/Corsair and Austin A40.

even though I've seen most of these images in his book you add a twist to them by adding the appropriate music, makes me feel I'm seeing them for the first time!

Good channel, nice idea! You should also try to present photo books, not just single photographs. It is not so simple task, but for many photographers the book was main art form and it is completely different from looking random pictures from them. Cheers

Is this truly all Winogrand's work that is shown here? For example at 12:00 the woman, the design of car, in the background the commercial of guys wearing T-Shirts. Curious if someone knows this. I just hadn't thought of the early 80s to look like that.

  • @Nobbyongoogle

I like these photos. They have a real quality that conveys life and emotion. Unposed and yet somehow posed. Unpopular opinion though, but many of his pictures seem to pick attractive women. These days i think taking sneaky pictures of unsuspecting women like that would be seen as creepy or pervy and probably lead to confrontation if spotted. Im not saying thats all he was, but there is definitely a lean towards sneaky women pics here.
