- Timid Burmese kitten, Luna, would only run from us and hide behind the toilet during her first days home. I started hand feeding her to help her get over her fear and help her start trusting human hands. Eventually she would climb into my lap while I fed her. Today she is still shy with strangers but very friendly and social to everyone in our household. =^..^=

If you let a cat do what it truly wants it will leave go do what it wants than come back for an easy meal and place to sleep. You know, we got a shy cat a few days ago. We decided to name her Luna. We had no knowledge of this video, it's just a crazy coincidence. Did you name her Luna because her fur is about the same color as Luna Lovegood's hair from the Harry Potter series? My mom decided on the name because both the character and cat are quite sweet.

We got our cats from our neighbours because they took them away from there mom and were just tossing them around so we took both of them and i had to bottle feed them all night like little babys lol dont regret it

Wrong. The way to a cat heart is respect. And love. Not food. Food is just a way to earn their trust. Dogs are probably more inclined to respond you by more material things like food or cuddles. Cats are more independent and "honest" in that way.
George R dogs recognize respect too-- you can see the differemce if theyre on a walk, if they drag the owner along or trot at their side

First day I brought my kitten home he went straight to the kitchen, found his plate, grabbed a bite. He looked around the house very enthusiastically. Then, hours later he fell asleep right on my chest, he was such a cutie. 5 years later he still is. And still comes to my chest in the early morning and purrs like there will be no tomorrow 🥰

I’d say just be patient, don’t force to touch or play with your kitten, always stay positive towards it and try get your kitten to play but don’t be forceful. Once it feels comfortable it’ll come to you. Just be patient towards it. It’ll come around eventually once it feels comfortable and trusts you. It just takes little bit of time. If it’s hiding for now - let it. It’s just scared at the moment.
After a new kitten has gotten used to my (palm-up, fingers together) hand being close, I usually rub one of their cheeks with a finger, along the jawline. In most cases, they start rubbing back, and that seems to reduce their stress.

Being a person that has socialized several fearful and even feral cats I have to add that the food approach shown here with this kitten was good, but I believe should always be accompanied by talking to the cat in a soft, sweet voice. This really helps to calm those little ones, especially, but can help to calm older cats also. I have socialized feral cats by placing food outside, then sitting quietly a good distance away, just watching them eat. Then, each day I bring food and move my chair a little closer until eventually you are sitting right next to them. I do not try to touch them for a long time. Patience is the key. They come to associate you with good things (food) and not as a threat.

I had a similiar problem with my cat when I first adopted him. First, I put a cat bed on my lap, then I put him on the bed and petted him until he wanted to jump off and go back under my bed. Then, I left food out overnight. By day three, he was rubbing his head against me. It was frustrating at first, but he came around. It's been almost two years now. This brings back memories.

Had a similar situation with a two year old lost kitty. She wanted to hide at first when I found her near my home. But after giving her snacks and petting her in hard to get corners it was like a switch went off. She started to become really friendly and even laid in my lap after a 24 hour period. After that we found her owners. Regret not keeping her but at least she got home.

Jake Holm, I was able to take into my apartment, a Feral Mama Cat. I named her, Mona. She had 2 litters of kittens in my bedroom closet. I kept 1 gorgeous gray male from her 1st litter, named him Petey. I was able to only be their Mom for 8 years. Had to re-home them, bc got priced out of my apartment. New place only allows 1 pet. Anyway, Miss Mona, and her son, Petey got neutered/spayed after the 2nd litter. Mona, herself never completely tamed from Feral to normal. But, I think all 4 of my Cats were basically happy, living w/me and each other. I miss Ginger, who died of old age, before I was forced out of that place. Mona, hopefully still lives (I hope) w/a former neighbor. Petey was w/same woman. After a year, woman became unstable, and since I still have my 18 year old male Cat, I couldn’t take Petey in, bc management wouldn’t let me. Haven’t seen or heard about either of them since that upsetting day, but I still really miss Mona and Petey. My Bennyman Cat is a character. I’m grateful that I’m allowed to keep him with me.

Storytime: A few years ago my family and me adopted two cats, a female and her brother out of animal shelter, both just a few months old. Her brother was very fast trusting to us and cuddled a lot but the femals cat was so scared, she hid under the sofa and wouldn't come out. And if she did and we did as much as to look in her direction, she would run straight back.
Nothing helped, we tried to talk to her, play with her... she was too scared. Then it was feeding time and as soon as she smelled the food, she came out and hesitantly stalked towards the feeding dish, while we pretended not to see her.
As soon as she ate, she lost her fear and even pushed her brother (who was already biger than her) aside to also eat his food.
Afterwards she even played with us and let us pat her.
Now we have both of them for a few years and they feel so comfortable with us, even if they kinda kept some of their habits. The male cat is fearless and cuddly, the female is still easily scared but as soon as she gets to eat she is not someone to be trifled with. :)

I love your story... I adopted an 8 week old female kitten from the shelter a few days ago. Tonight will make the 4th night and she still is hiding. She started using her litter box the day I brought her home as well as her food and water dishes in my kitchen. The litter box is in my bedroom and she’ll run from my closet to under the bed, I sing to her, I talk to her but I can’t get her to come out of hiding. My heart is broken because all I want to do is snuggle and love her. I’m not able to get her from under the bed, as I have Stage lll Ovarian Cancer and treatment has ruined my joints. God bless my beautiful blue eyed Himalayan Persians soul. He died 2 years ago and I'm still heart broken but anyways he was extremely shy and a very scary cat even after owning him for 4 years. I still loved and adored him. I miss him so much. He was so young. Would be turning 6 years old this year. He Had a very long at life ahead of him. I want to get a silver shade but not sure.
