Loved that reaction. I especially enjoyed watching your facial expressions while reacting, but especially your reaction to Mario's voice. Mario is quite accomplished. He was a tour assistant for Pentatonix and opened for them. He also has shared the stage with some legends (literally John Legend), Prince, Meghan Trainor and Michael McDonald to name a few. Scott and Mario really compliment each other. Now that you have found Mario you must react to Scott and Mitch's group, Superfruit, and their upgrade to Katy Perry's Rise in which Mario, Mary Lambert and Brian Justin Crumb collaborate with Scott and Mitch. Suggestion... Have a tissue handy and enjoy.

If you enjoyed Mario's voice in this song You will love the song Rise that Scott and Mario do with Justin Crumb who is amazing and Mary Lambert and also Mitch. It's a tribute to the Pulse Night Club shooting where 49 LGBT+ people and family died and as the 5 all belong to that community, Scott wanted to do it with them and I believe funds raised from it went to help the dozens of people injured. I don't know if Katy Perry has done the original she did since she generously gave it to them to use. Please do this one.

Love this mix. All the members of PTX are generous with their talent supporting young singers. Mario was encouraged to open for the group several times. He worked backstage as organizing staff for a while and they became friends. There is a video on YT somewhere of him on stage singing 'Halleluiah' and it shows Scott and Mitch in the wings in tears!

One of my all time favorite songs. Scott’s ear for making mashups and arrangements is phenomenal. I love both their voices, perfectly blended and yet creating sublime counterpoints. This is such a tragic song, perfectly done.
Truly! I know Scott jokes that he's a bit dumb but I genuinely think he might be a musical/creative genius. The way his mind can process and put together things! Especially hearing how songs could work together. So impressive
Some people are just born with a natural gift for music - whichever form it might come in! I reckon (from the relatively little I've seen of him/PTX) Scott is definitely one of these people
@@SirHairless This may sound very strange, but one of my favorite Scott videos is one he did with a woman named Colleen Balliger. She had a series of videos on CZcams where she played a 15 year old girl named Miranda Sings with no inhibitions and no idea how she came across. She did one video called "Voice Lessons with Pentatonix", in which she teaches each one of them to sing. Scott did a duet with her called "Miranda Sings and Scott Hoying Lucky". She is sitting right next to him on a couch singing the song completely out of tune, and Scott sings the whole song note perfect. It's pretty amazing - and very funny. Scott is incredibly talented, and what he has done with PTX, along with other artists such as Citizen Queen, an acapella womens group that Scott put together. I think you would enjoy them!

Mario worked with Pentatonix in some capacity on one or more of their tours, and they surprised him with the opportunity to open for them. They all stood in the wings being emotional. It was lovely! If I recall, they also invited Mario's parents to be in the audience and of course join him after the opening. They're so loving that way.

So glad to see your reaction to this. It sucks watching reactors who don't even know that the songs are put together... Even those who do don't always get it. They find it good on it's own (which is a great thing). But seeing someone like you who genuinely GETS IT.. yes!!
Also, if you ever see a video with Scott and someone, you're gonna be blown away. He knows so many talanted people, but also is an absolute EXPERT at bringing the best out of people and highlighting strengths in arrangements. Plus, he LOVES it! There are whole compilations of him doing that with Mitch, but even outside that, he always does that when singing with great people and friends.

Mario used to be a tour assistant with Pentatonix back in the way back....if you ever get around to the PTXperience videos you will see him with them on tour.
Oh I know it's less music-y but I would love if he one day reacts to those. If just for the way the group works, the behind the scenes of the touring life and all the off the cuff musical moments!

@@SirHairless Yeah, that's probably true. I just assumed you have your lists full of the actual songs but might one day get to a point where you've covered the main timeline and is jumping back and forth a bit more.
@@SirHairless yassss...there will be spoilers in all of their concert tour and non-song videos. I think if you get to 2015 vintage songs...you can go back and watch some of their beginning tour vids...2013-2015 vintage. Then you get into the transition eras - 2016-2018...then the current era 2019-now. Breaking their career up like that might enable you to view the behind the scenes videos without too many surprises.

Fun fact: Scott is 6'4". Quite taller than Mario. In the behind the scenes when setting up for the camera Scott didn't fit in the frame so his long legs are spread wide so he could fit in with Mario yet Scott is singing with such passion.
I'm sure he was tired by the end in just the way he was standing.
Scott has been writing and arranging songs since he was a teenager.
Like I mentioned in another one of your PTX reactions. Ben Bram, Scott, Kevin and Avi were/are the main arrangers for the group.
Scott has Scoliosis ( curvature of the spine). If he could straighten it out he would be about 6’7”…talk about a tower of power😮😅❤

Oh, man! I'm sooo happy for this reaction! This song was on constant repeat on my playlist, days and months long. The passion of these two and the music wraps my soul in a warm hug. I was floored the first time I saw this video. I was already familiar with the LP song and loved it but this took it into a new realm, gave it a different flavor. I can't imagine having the ear to hear Time and recognize the possibility of combining it with Lost on You. The harmonic changes in the background are quite different but they FIT beautifully with the subtle changes Scott and Mario make, not only the slight melodic variations, but the lyric progression. And as always, Scott is a master of dynamics; how he weaves the song with call and response building the complexity with the background crescendo ... just breathtaking, imho! Thanks for the great reaction as always. Looking forward to the next. 😀

another example of astonishing vocal prowess AND arrangement genius is Scott and Mitch- Sup3rFruit- Empire Medley. An American tv show called Empire about the music business and lots of great music on FOX asked Scott to write a musical re-cap as it were from the 1st season to introduce the 2nd season. I have not watched the show but man, what he and Mitch do, even though I'd not heard the songs before it is absolutely mesmerizing, the things they do...highly recommend.

That is a sense that doesn't really make sense. Love it! Sometimes, it is all about feeling. The music as it was meant vs. Words, emotion and intent are so very different and appreciated.
That score from Hanz Zimmer gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. It is just elevated with their vocals.

I think Scott eats , breathes and lives music and is so incredibly talented . He's a writer , arranger , a vocalist with an amazing range , an accomplished pianist, very enthusiastic about supporting and encouraging other singers, and an all round energiser bunny because, aside from touring/recording with PTX and everything that goes with that , he found the time to bring together both an amazing all girl acapella group , Citizen Queen, and a bunch of equally amazing youngsters who make up Acapop kids ! I'm with everyone else in encouraging you to listen to 'Rise' , and if you want to hear even more of Mario, I'd recommend having a listen to 'Have You Ever' where he's joined by Vincint Cannady and Matt Bloyd who are also amazing artists !

Wow! Got that out of the way. So, I used to listen to Pentatonix often, but I appreciate instrumental music quite a bit. (I enjoy vocals and the poetic element of singing, but I am terrible at lyrics.). I am truly in awe of musicians who have honed their skills and can hear the possibilities when mixing or mashing up different songs. I have heard both pieces before and had not given much more than cursory appreciation of both - but the blend of these two voices and these two pieces of music - brilliant! Thank you. Thank you! I tend to keep information about myself fairly private, but a brief summary would be I started out with piano, then as I got older I spent a lot of my free time playing around with arranging and learning things by ear, and then studied music in various forms as I got a bit older. Then I didn't do anything music-related for the past 6 years, which is one reason why I started this channel - to get back into the world of music! It's been a while but music is one of those things you never forget, and I'm happy to be back and learning more every day 🎶

How you even have the ear/ability to suss out all the differences and similarities is beyond me. I really appreciate your attention to all the details. I had no idea there were minor changes to help make things fit for the best sound. Now you know what we're saying about Scott's ability to put two seemingly dissimilar pieces of music together in his head, even before putting it to paper, and knowing it would work. He's so much more complex than we could have known. I hope someone has suggested that you react to "Rise" with his and Mitch's group Superfruit (I know it was explained below. It's breathtaking!) and Scott's originals "Mars", "Parallel" or "Extraordinary". Scott's songs are all about or with his now husband Mark. Yet another rabbit hole...LOL Thank you so much for another learning and entertaining experience!
Arranging is for sure an art form, and the tiniest change to one element can be make-or-break for an arrangement as a whole!

Scott is so good at seeing talent is someone relatively unknown and suggesting a collab with them. He is really just there for support because he always allows them to shine bright!!

I had only seen this one once, so thanks for the reminder of how good it is. As others have said, please consider reacting to Superfruit’s cover of Rise by Katy Perry. It’s a powerful, passionate and defiant response by Scott and Mitch, with guests Mario Jose, Brian Austin Crum and Mary Lambert, to the attack on the LGBTQ+ community at the Pluse nightclub shooting in Florida. Superfruit was (and may be again, please) a side project by Mitch and Scott that started as a CZcams channel and eventually resulted in a very good album of originals called Future Friends. I don't know why, but I'm so impressed with the attempt at pronouncing kamakawiwo'ole, even though there's a missing syllable, and the w's are pronounced as v's.

Now that you’ve got an idea of who Mario is, I think a fun thing to do would be a double reaction of Superfruit’s(Scott and Mitch) original song Bad 4 us. Their own version which has an 80’s dance feel and Mario and his friend Matt Bloyd’s acoustic version of their song. Much more mellow and slowed down. Both very good which also shows what good song writers Scott and Mitch are. Their whole original album Future Friends is so good. Not a bad song on the whole thing. I got to meet Mario at a Ptx concert. The person I was with is friends with him. He’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. Super sweet. He’s got a lot of fans out of Ptx fans. *Edit superfruit has 2 videos for bad 4 us. If you do watch it, watch the one that's not animated.

A fun fact: Scott is 6"3" and Mario is quite a bit shorter. I've seen people speculate that Scott was somehow standing with his legs far apart when he was singing this so they matched in height (I find it hard to imagine that being a good way to belt something out, but that's the rumour. It's either that or Mario was standing on a platform of some kind).
I've seen commenters referring to Scott himself saying he was "doing the splits" in this video. Possibly on Twitter?

WowWowWow! I think I startled my kitties with my audible reaction to seeing this title .. I love it so much. You know I’ve mentioned LP and this song and I adore the original as much as their re-imagining of it. But I’m dying to know if you also watched LP’s Live version with the Billion+ views.. thinking I included the link.. what did you think of LP’s vocal style… did you research the artist? I believe their mother was in opera. These lyrics are so clever, ie is it lost on you everything I have lost on you? Ouch. Relatable. It’s quite incredible to even think of how to set this song to HZ ‘Time’.. magnificent in its own right. Anyway, I’d love to know more of your thoughts on LP’s original. I don’t mind you just watching it on your own as you’ve heard it in the official video, the video is better at telling the story and drawing one into it, but the Live is just a heckuva performance between LP & the band. You must must let me know if you do watch the Live & tell me what you think. AND, for an attempt at pronouncing IZ’s surname without ever hearing it, you did quite spectacularly! How much time does it take you to prepare a video like this? This is the analysis I've been longing for someone to do--to show me exactly where and how Scott tweaked the LP song to make it fit the Zimmer track. Thank you! You not only gave me the detailed musical analysis that I come here for but also made me triply happy by appreciating Mario's voice and by noticing Scott's "proud papa" face. Scott is so generous, loving to showcase his friends! And Mario is a sweet, humble man with a heart as big as his voice. You just gave me 17:52 minutes of sheer joy. I hope Scott and Mario watch this video!

On the question about how long it takes:
The preparation doesn't take too much time; I just research what I think I'll need to know whilst trying to avoid spoilers 😅In this case the key thing I wanted to know beforehand was both original songs. I already knew 'Time' so listened to it a couple of times to refresh my memory. But I didn't know 'Lost On You', so I put that on repeat earlier in the day whilst I was cooking, probably heard it about 5 times through?It really helps to know the songs subconsciously when it comes to mashups as the differences then stand out much more! If you expect one note, but a different note happens, you know exactly what it is that's changed 🎵
Then the reaction/analysis part varies, depending on how much info I want to try and fit in. How I do these videos is:
• I record it all in one take. I hear it for the first time, which is what you see. Then the analysis parts I have the moments in mind which I want to talk about. I pause the recording, find the moment, make sure what I wanted to say was right, and then film myself talking about it
In this case, the filming took about 45mins as I had to make the little diagram explaining the chord structure (so I paused the recording, made the diagram, then continued). Then once it's all filmed, I record the future-Sir-Hairless parts afterwards (doesn't take long on the piano)
The editing is the really time-consuming part - each video takes between 1.5 - 3 hours to edit, depending on length. And then the thumbnails are the last part, which usually take around 10-15mins each? I'm no video editor though, I'd never edited anything in my life until I started this channel 4 months ago!

I think you might get some pushback on suggesting that PTX asks Mario to join them. There is already an amazing tenor in the group! I do think that Mitch's voice, while strong, is a bit more delicate than Mario's, and it's fun to see Scott belting as loud as he can and Mario standing toe-to-toe with him singing just as powerfully. Scott is pretty good at matching his duet partners, and I think he tones it down a bit when it's just him and Mitch. Just my opinion, but I've seen him in a lot of duets, and in this one, he is loving being able to go for it. @@SirHairless Also, thanks for the reference to Iz. I wouldn't have thought to compare his and Mario's tones in the first part of this, but you are right, they are very similar. He's one of my all-time favorite singers. We used his version of "Over the Rainbow" in our wedding music CD before the ceremony, and quite a few folks came up afterward and asked, "Who was that?"

I adore this arrangement by Scott, and tbh, don't really care much for the original arrangement by LP. Her lyrics are great and I love Zimmer's Time. How Scott came up with combining these two pieces is beyond me, but I love it. Thanks to your Patron and thanks for a great analysis, as always.

So Scott is 6'3" and Mario is not. For them both to be in the frame Scott is standing split-legged to come down to Mario's height and he can still sing like that.
He is also an arrangement savant I think. So happy to see this reaction and hear the analysis
