In 2023 their last album was in my top 10. The guitar player is fenomenal. Live concert on You Tube and live performance in the studio is so good. I liked also the first albums of Loudness also a band from Japan.

Is it possible for a band from the ‘80’s to keep getting better right into 2023? In Anthem’s case, yes, yes it is! The funny thing is that I picked up their first album in the year it was released and then I completely lost track of the band and their releases after that. Then I watched probably the same documentary on CZcams that you did and I was blown away. Their albums are hard to come by in the States. So, I’ve spent a ton of money buying up all their albums on eBay and Amazon. They’re so well worth it! The drummer is a beast. Every guitar player they’ve ever had is phenomenal. The bassist is the band leader and is fantastic and the singer just gets better and better! Dive into their catalogue and let me know if you get as hooked as I am! They were actually known as the Japanese Judas Priest. I love your reaction videos. Keep on rockin!

Wiki Anthem (band) for the history and members of the band. You will see how some members have gone and returned over the years, but the driving heart of the band is Naoto Shibata on Bass.

Proper old-school Metal... I also got Rainbow/Malmsteen vibes from this song

Oh Hell yeah! I didn't know they had a new album in the works. They were a contemporary of Loudness and EZO back in the day, but never quite hit the "big time". "Bound To Break" is the album that won me over. Ok Leigh, I'm here to help...for your homework assignment listen to "Show Must Go On", "Machine Made Dog" and "Headstrong" from that album. Trust me!

Just an aside thought... the fact that the English language must be used (think bands from Germany, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Greece... Japan...) by a musical act to sell records in any considerable amount, is a testament to how much power and spread the English language has gained in the world... it's origins being from a collection of Germanic tribes brought originally by the Romans as mercenaries to a small island named Britain...

I must confess that I have never heard them either. Really digging this track - will have to check out the new album.
BTW - I have worked for a Japanese company for almost 33 years, and you did a great job on the names!

New Subscriber. You need to check out this bands album Domestic Booty. Judas Priest's Painkiller and Anthem's Domestic Booty were both produced by Chris Tsangarides. Many say that Domestic Booty is Painkiller II and you can see why, especially the opening track Venom Strike. Amazing band.

You haven't heard any Anthem songs?! Smash through Tightrope (their first album) - it still absolutely shreds. Domestic Booty and Bound To Break are highly recommended listening too

They actually had a self titled album before tightrope that’s actually their first, but honestly tightrope is a better album to start on regardless. I’d throw in Eternal Warrior and Black Empire from their newer era as well. 🤟🤟🤟

@@MrBdog1021 Yes, Tightrope is much better. Light it up is a banger to this very day.
Bound to Break is the best album they've ever made. Gypsy Ways as a close second. Eternal Warrior is up there in my book, too.

What a great song. I'm going to have to check these guys out. The riffs were great, the solo was done very well.

Yeah, Loudness and Anthem, that’s what we listened to from Japan. Loudness produce most of their stuff in Japanese these days (which is a threshold), but Anthem stayed English. This one is a great starter to a new album.

Actually this is the first album of original new material being completley in english. Nucleus from 2019 was a collection of old songs newly recorded with english lyrics, but everything before that was a mixture of japanese and english. I'm a little sad, they're now in 100% english as this was part of their characteristics.

This reminds me very much of Firewind. Which is a good thing.
