- In this recording I alternated between the sustain and 4th harmonic pedal. The harmonic pedal was invented by Denis de La Rochefordière.
“The Snow is Dancing” is the 4th piece from “Children’s Corner”. Public domain sheet music download (free) from IMSLP Music Library: goo.gl/wq3GHP - Hudba
The way it bounces between two notes so delicately without blurring into a mess really feels like snow falling
My piano teacher really just went “so your gonna start learning Clair de lune, but if you have to much trouble with that one, this is your backup piece.”
aight imma head out I’d like to have whatever your piano teacher was smoking lol
I found this a bit harder than Claire de lune which fits under the hand a bit more easily, doesn't have the cross rhythms or counterpoint to this extent, and doesn't call for extreme control of touch.
James Peyton I’d say with touch (dynamics) and rhythm this piece is a bit challenging to get the hang of. Both pieces are beautiful either way, but Claire de Lune is completely different, and I’d say more difficult in all terms. this piece and Golliwogg's Cakewalk are my favorites in Debussy’s Children’s corner though!
Eorzat lmao I’m learning clair de lune rn think imma learn this after
Wtf
For me, this one is Debussy’s most impressionist piece. A real évocation of the experience of watching the snow fall. I also hear a church bell in the background (like in Cloches a travers les feuilles).
Beautiful!
Twoset definitely makes more classical music popular :) I haven't known that piece but it's beautiful!
Yeah me neither
I'm learning it now thanks to them.
But you can't always depend on Brett and Eddy. You'll have to start looking for yourself if you want to find more pieces like this.
@@roberacevedo8232 the fact that you listen to a piece/song because someone mentions it, doesn't mean that you will rely on him/her to extend your music knowledge xD
@@MarsLos10 No it doesn't, does it matter tho. You don't know the guy do you. I was giving him advice because I don't know him.
I love DEBUSSY very much!!! It's very beautiful and weird.
TzuChin Hsu I like to describe it as "underwater music".
@@michaelkawamura9296 While tone scale
you mean impressioning?
If you’ve ever been outside and caught in a brief burst of a snow squall, you know this piece captures the feeling perfectly. And the finger work you show is amazing!
Listening during a Canadian snowstorm. This piece captures it like a film.
Debussy was one of the best ever.
Change my mind.
Ravel is better.
@@Millennium647 source?
nah debussy was the best.
*laughs in rachmaninoff*
@@pierrecohenmusic I sometimes really don't understand debussy and ravel. (No disrespect though, a handful of their pieces are actually really good)
Super impressionistic
Nice, Paul. For me, pieces like this are a reminder of how Debussy's works can be so lush in musical texture. I watched the other video of the sheet music and was wondering how to approach some of the fingering. This video answers those questions. I'm going to give this one a go. Thank you for the motivation and Happy Holidays!
-Cheers
Just finished golliwoggs cakewalk and doctor gradus so now I’m learning this one
These three are my favorites of the suite
Absolutely wonderfull. Sounds amazing. 🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Wow. I am quiet stunned by this composition.
I fell upon it by accident, looking for theories around polyrythms, and heard about this Debussy piece as an example (triplets seen at 1:11) .
I must say, I'm in shock ! It is so beautiful, so expressive, so pictural even ! I absolutely love it. Thank you so much for sharing your interpreation of it on CZcams.
You made my day !
Wow. That’s just tremendous playing. I can never listen to this without thinking of Isao Tomita’s album ‘Snowflakes are dancing’ which was an electronic interpretation of Debussy’s work and well worth a listen 🙂
I love Debussy’s works so much, they are magnificent
one of my favorites by Debyssy because it exactly expresses the subject.
It looks like he's tickling the piano
Magical, delicate piece and exquisite playing.
I could imagine many fantasies with this music.

This piece feels magical to me
Anyone else feels like understanding Tony Banks much more after hearing this? Carpet Crawlers, The Lamb lies down on Broadway etc...Beautiful rendition Paul.
Good Point I'm a huge Genesis Fan, Tony Banks is amazing, and Debussy is my favorite Piano Composer.
These collection of pieces are so satisfying to play if you love patterns and emotions. Excellent performance ❤
This is so beautiful. Beautifully played too.
Thanks for uploading this top-view recording!
What a fantastic piece of music.
I've been looking for this for so long since hearing it on a free CD!
one of my favorite from Debussy, very nicely played
Bravo! Congrats on that performance
I love this piece. Mesmerizing.
You have very good technique. Definitely something worth imitating.
Curious and interesting piece. Beautiful indeed.
The hardest in the Children's Corner
Fantastic!
Beautiful performance
very magical
This is pure magic. Thanks Paul
Beautiful! Thank you!
Beautiful :D thank you very much!
So beautiful. I love all your videos
you're amazing!
Очень красиво. Обожаю❤❤❤Very beautifull.
Bellísimo.
The pice that made me fall in love with Debussy's music... Thank you for your beautiful interpretation! Also, it's nice to listen to it being played with pedal!
SO lovely♥
some nice work going on here.
Very beautiful, thanks!
(On a side note, I would dare to suggest listening (or at least hearing) the extravagant/extraordinary electronic version of Tomita of this and other Debussy's pieces.)
ok I'm definitely learning this
Wow you’re such a great pianist
Fantástico pezzo
I both hate and love you for how easy your hands make this piece look
My piano teacher literally did not believe I could learn this piece
I'm learning this piece right now and it's the last one I need to learn to finish Children's Corner. I want to pursue piano in college but I don't know if I'm good enough, is this piece where I should be or below the level that I need? I can't really find any info on it since difficulty is so relative, but maybe someone will see this and be able to answer my question lol
I don't know if this reply is reaching you too late but if you are at the level of this piece, you should be able to get into a music program at a decent college. You should get a private instructor if you don't already have one and learn your scales and theory beforehand. I thought I was a lost cause but with the proper motivation and instruction anyone can do it!
와우~~~굿뜨에요♡♡♡~~~~
Wonderful!
That Gb7/Bb chord at 1:20 though
I think you live at the piano
Also a great piece to check the tying of your piano!
Someone please tell me it's okay and fine to just play this half speed.
Nice work! I learned 75% of this tune 40 yrs ago. Thought I'd learn it by 1st snowfall - prob late December. Yeah - it just snowed and....maybe next year.
Have you now?
I am so stuck at 1:12 with the rhythm can’t put the hands together
So am I. It's the hardest bit of the whole piece! It looks so simple...
Think of it this way. The first note of each hand goes together, but then it goes in a back-and-forth between the left and right hands.
Pass the god-damn butter!
Как тонко же и красиво
Профи Тролль, да, "Снег танцует" прекрасно подходит к снежной погоде по своей атмосфере.
What is the name of the musical technique used in the melody? I mean the technique used of repeat the same theme in both hands but with silences?
That sounds and looks hard but very well played
Awesome!!👏👏
I wonder if could I suggest a piece for you to play... I would like it very much to see it played in your channel : Adolf Jensen: 25 etüden Op 32:8 Allegro appassionato F# minor
Thanks!
Pretty
Please also play jardins sous la pluie!!
4th comment
P.D. thank you Paul
Beautiful 😭 this piece is harder than arabesque no1 right?
Debussy sounds kind of modern here
Interstellar vibes at the beginning
This is my second month playing piano after moving from violin. I gotta say, this piece is deceptively difficult!
You could definitely see why people labeled Debussy as "impressionistic." I feel like Debussey, more than Satie or Ravel for that matter, conveys the look of impressionistic paintings.
Piece has some horror movie vibe.
Which horror movie?
cydrools I don’t want to make too big comparisons, but there is a little of Suspiria (Argento) and the Halloween theme in there. Possibly.
Profondo rosso
piola
This melody is perfect if *Sans familie 2* is created lol
Like a Tim Burton soundtrack.
Call me by your name vibes
Nice that one, isn't it? Oh, yes....
Cada vez la publicidad es más agresiva...
A most instructive video and the playing is very accomplished. However, the rhythm in the bass part doesn't seem right at 1.25 and every time the motive occurs.
The piece is polyrythmic, and therefore meant to be asymmetrical in places... the way snow is not always even as it settles. Polyrythmic motifs were further developed as modern jazz moved most famously into the hands of Dave Brubeck.
Идеально по технике,но по-моему тут сильно не хватает душевного вклада
Omg it seems like so difficult......
070 shake
I just wonder if I have ever seen anything more complicated than this...
basically a lot of liszt’s pieces
This isn't bad. Check out Hungarian rhapsody
Awesome
Oh i am first
Snow is not dancing actually his fingers are dancing
I thought it should be played without pedal…
Difficolt
이거 따라치는데 새끼손가락 근육이..ㅠㅠㅜㅠㅠ
Chopin nocturnes are easier than this for me , I’m having a lot of trouble with this piece. The notes are easy but it’s the rhythm 😂
childrens corner😅
Seems improvable
Jakob 'Kousei' Poon rude
Charlotte how is that rude?
Well, without any compliment or well thought critic, Jakob just told Paul that this recording was subpar. I do not agree with him though.
Too many black notes.
Haha
Those little polyrhythms yikes
Sorry, far too fast.
Digga was schickt mir mein Lehrer da für ne scheiße
Trueeeee
Cool. I like it but it's kind of boring. Good playing as always tho.
It's for children to learn :P
I like how it’s for ‘children’ to learn when it’s so hard
No it absolutely is not for children to learn. It's called children's corner because it was written for a child.
These are definitely not for children haha. I personally really enjoy it as it seems to interpret falling snow and winter winds pretty well.
Piano is way out of tune, particularly bad in upper registers.
No offense, but your schoolbook playing in combination with the harmonic pedal makes me want to slice my ears off.
No debussy not this time..
