    Looks like Halo recently dropped their prices quite a bit as well. Now they are down to about the same cost as what it takes me to build my own customs from custom Warmoth parts. Love the matte finish and the neck-through look on this one.

    Mine is coming in about a month, I was a little concerned when going in from their bad track record back in their early year's but they seem to have things together now and for a good price as far as customs go. Really excited.

    You should look into the Bill lawrence Q-filter. Instead of a tone knob it gradually reduces the output a little, but more importantly it reduces the midrange punch, so you can adjust the character of the pickups from very clean singlecoilish sounds, to the full blare of your exsiting pickups. It is a a very inexpensive solution that yields a lot of tonal variation. Highly recommended.

    You can just change pickups, you don't need a new guitar. :)

    Pretty dope axe my man :) maybe the head would be better upside down ( but I am Jackson fan so its understandable for me ... :D )
    and I dont really know why would you get another neck pickup FOR YOUR NEXT guitar , when you can change only the neck pickup with another on this guitar

      I had an Aria Black n Gold bass back in the 80s and 90s, but then i sold it. And when i heard that a new anniversary edition of that guitar came out i was excited but then i saw that the price was 4500 dollars. I looked for weeks on all sorts of sites for the original 80s model but i just couldn't find one. So i went on their site and made a guitar that looks the same and sounds better for 2900 dollar. Get these guitars they're worth the price. I bought another guitar from them just a few months ago and it puts my ESP MX220 to shame.

    I would have swapped those pickups out for the Fishman fluence modern ceramics with 3-way coil tap wiring. The tone variations are untouchable.

      Brandon Gordon - the VP offered to give me half my money back and let me keep the pickups and bridge since they were "custom
      Options"
      By that point I was sick of having to deal with the company so I said yes and went and out an off the shelf guitar to mod the the specs I wanted .

    How has the guitar held now that you have had it since January? I can't find anyone else who will build a 24 fret explorer with a Floyd and I built a great one on the website but everything is so 50/50 on the internet

    • @MarkKlett
      @MarkKlett  Před 7 lety +1

      I have found it to be a very solid guitar, with only a few minor issues like the screw holding the pickup selector often coming loose, one of the tuners being a little rough feeling when turning, and one fret being a tiny bit high which causes high bends to have issues sometimes. The best part about the guitar is the evertune which really does a great job keeping the guitar in perfect tune during intensive recording sessions. However, the evertune does change the way the guitar feels and I honestly end up going back to my tele most of the time since it just feels a little more comfortable to play. But I know I can count on the guitar getting bands through their guitar tracking process which really makes me appreciate it!

    • @autobotsNdecepticons
      @autobotsNdecepticons Před 6 lety

      When you say the Evertune changes the feel, do you mean like it's stiffer/harder to bend the strings and such?

  • @RutLij
    @RutLij Před 7 lety +3

    You may have said it at some point in the video and I missed it, but how much did this guitar end up costing?

    • @connormackie2829
      @connormackie2829 Před 7 lety +4

      Sean Rutledge I built this guitar on the website with all the exact same specifications and it came out to $2,769 not including tax or shipping, however he chose a lot of the most expensive options for his custom. The Juggernauts are most expensive passive pickup, the Evertune is the most expensive bridge, he chose the most expensive neck wood and construction, and all the pretty things like the binding and inlay add on a bit of money. However, you can make yourself a decent custom between $1,700 and $1,800, with say a Hipshot bridge, DiMarzio or Fishman Fluence pickups, bolt on construction with a mahogany or maple neck and rosewood or maple fretboard. They also have a 50% deposit option, where you pay half the cost of the guitar when you first order it, and the other 50% when the build is done. On top of that, they currently offer a $500 coupon if you join their mailing list. The only catches are the coupon only applies to custom shop orders, and it expires 30-40 days after you sign up for the mailing list. So if you're wise with your essential options, you can pay as low as around $750 in February and $750 + tax and shipping in November. Hope this helps in deciding for a custom order!

    Would you recommend spending money to get this or buying a guitar then doing it custom yourself? i would say myself but the issue is i like ebony necks and those are hard to find for explorer shapes then you have to go through the taking the neck off amd everything

    • @MarkKlett
      @MarkKlett  Před 7 lety

      I guess it really just depends on what exactly you want in your guitar. If there are no brands that make the kind of guitar you want or even a starting point on which to customize, then yes Halo would be a good choice for you. But it would probably be significantly cheaper and quicker to do it yourself with a pre-made guitar. In my case I really wanted evertune with stainless steel frets, and an ebony neck.

    • @autobotsNdecepticons
      @autobotsNdecepticons Před 6 lety

      Mark, what's the difference (if any) in feel or sound with the stainless steel frets vs. normal frets? Also what fret thickness did you go with and why? (They show three thicknesses on their site--medium, jumbo, extra jumbo.)

      If you try stainless you'll never go back to nickel. The smoothness and durability can't be beat.

    • @autobotsNdecepticons
      @autobotsNdecepticons Před 5 lety

      @@thorthunderlungs5171 thanks for your input. I did get a chance to try a local luthier's stainless steel fretted guitar briefly, but not long enough to get a sense for whether I should go with that. I guess the potential downside is, if there are any flaws in the fretwork, they're be harder to fix. But then, if they require less maintenance over time, I suppose that pays for itself.

    Awesome guitar. Thinking of getting one myself. Hey Mark what was your setup for recording this track? It sounds excellent

    • @MarkKlett
      @MarkKlett  Před 7 lety +1

      For the track in the beginning, I used an amp sim called Toneforge Menace by JST for the rhythm parts, along with an H&K Tubeman for the lead parts. Then for the tone demos at the end, I used a supersonic plugged into a Suhr Reactive Load, and then into a cab impulse response by Ownhammer. Hope that helped!
