Not being able to edit youtube messages I will probably regret this, since there is hard to pick only one, but here goes: This is my favourite Chet performance ever. I have played it a hundred times on my audio system. It doesn't get any better than this. Just listen to the part beginning at 0:50. Allthough he wasn't classically trained he had one of the best tones in the business. This made my day, thank you.
Playing superb guitar from country western to classical music and covering many other genres in between is alone a tremendous achievement, not to mention his productions and the many talents he helped succeed. Rest his musical talented soul.
Alexander Syrus Chet could play anything from Bach to rock with every stop inbetween! And he could do it ten times better on his worst day than most pickers on their BEST day! Daff
love chet atkins, I don't think anyone will ever match his amazing technique. he maybe the only guitar player with the talent to do mozart on a guitar. simply amazing! bought one of his cd's about 10 years ago and wore it out playing.
@Pickinbuddy i'm pretty sure this is Fernando Sor's Variations on a Theme of Mozart played with a country groove. look up Segovia-variations on mozart's theme.
I was living in Nashville at the time this was made. I was taking a few lessons from John Knowles, who is part of this quartet, at Peabody. John sounds a lot like Chet. Check out his instructional videos on the web. John told me that he actually wrote the arrangement for The Entertainer for Chet. Leona Boyd & John Pell were the other 2 on this album, & the whole record is great. Chet granted a C.G.P. award to Knowles. Knowles was also the director of the Country Music Foundation once.
Este es un tema para guitarra clásica de Fernando Sor, basado en una obra de Mozart. Fernando Sor la tituló "Variaciones Sobre la Flauta Mágica de Mozart". De todos modos, aquí es una excelente interpretación de Chet Atkins.
Delightful! Even if it is being played on an electric guitar. Chet really was the consummate guitar player. The enduring masters of music's genius musicians are still trying to copy. Mozart, Beethoven, and most of all, Bach, who was the first to play in all keys. How many musicians do you know whose music will be played 200 years from now? Don't think Spears, Beiber, or any of the current crop will even warrant mention.
Hi Doug, I was wondering if you could tell me what the name of the classical album he recorded was? Id really appreciate it. And thank you for posting all the Chet. Im obsessed :D Thanks, Bella
Bella Speelman He recorded "Class Guitar." And one called "Lovers Guitar", which was close to classic, plus this album "Chet Atkins And The First Nashville Guitar Quartet."

Five people dislike this? May their pick break off in their G string!
Amen
Mozart would be proud....if not maybe somewhat envious!?....love it!
love this tune.... It like Marcel Dadi 's tune Turkish Delight from Mozart
@Pickinbuddy That's exactly what it is. A total delight.
@Estonianwoodsman Yup. And a total groove.

BRAVA!!!
@hobogutter666 cool - thanks for pointing that out. Oh happy day!
@Estonianwoodsman That's exactly what it's from.
@mosesram3 true that :) U should also listen to Segovia play this, DIVINE !
Segovia's playing of this is out-of-this-world wonderful. He's an artist in a world by himself. But I still love Chet and his playing best.
HMQ
Chet could do Segovia pieces, but Segovia could never do Chet tunes!!
