very good lineup, but i understand that because the international teams were playing with professionals, we had to do the same - i just wish that EVERY TEAM used their collegiate/ amatuers, because these games, especially the Olympics were originally about amatuer athletics ...

There was no Soviet basketball team since 1985 the was Lithuanian basketball team. Chomicius Marciulionis Kurtinaitis Sabonis... The core was Lithuanians and soviets got few spots they didnt diserved just to have some dudes from Russia :)
In 1986 Lithuania was part of USSR so it was a Soviet team.
Yeas,but before 1985 USSR had won 14 Europeans,2 worlds,and Olympic gold,and the majority of the players were from Russia,although Lithuanians,Latvians,Georgians,Ukrainians Estonians had always players and contribution.
Marko Kraljevic from 1981 till 1981 had only won once the Soviets,in 1988 group game(lost in final though) and in general USSR had 2-4-3 Olympic,3-3-2 in Worlds and 14-3-4 Europeans medals ,while Yugoslavia had 1-3-1 Olympics,3-3-2 Worlds and 5-4-3 Europeans medals.So,how did they batter the Soviets?It is nonsense.They were very good,sometimes great but the Soviets won more.

Heck of a game. Down to the wire. Coach Olson had shooters on the bench like Kerr and Shaw and he never saw it fit to use them? USA could have used some outside shooters in this game as the middle was clogged with tall trees.
Kerr was hurt as he suffered a severe knee injury in the semi finals against Brazil and was unable to play(he also missed the entire 1986-87 college season)

Sabonis entonced estaba en su techo de estatura físico y juego, luego vino la lesión de talón de Aquiles y se acabó y sin embargo siguió jugando a gran nivel.
En cambio aún David Robinson no estaba ni al 50% de lo que llegó a ser, maduró una barbaridad, consiguió una espectacular musculatura y creció desde 2,11 a 2,16 y mejoró hasta el punto de ser uno de los 5 mejores pívots de la historia.
Robinson no está entre los 5 pívots de la historia para nada

a la urss, y sus jugadores les falto confianza en poder ganar, pero esta derrota les sirvio para darse cuenta que podian ganar a los jugadores universitarios norteamericanos, si se ven los partidos de los mundiales del año 86, y año 90, argentina, cambiaron la historia del baloncesto, hasta entonces a los americanos les valia con ir con universitarios
ahora en la actualidad ya no, lo acabamos de ver en el mundial sub-19, ganado por españa, y lo vimos en el mundial de china, 2019, solo les vale ir con lo mejor que tienen, y aun asi, ganan, pero tienen que jugar a su mejor nivel

Los jugadores NBA empezaron a ir a partir de Barcelona 92, con el llamado Dream Team

Not sure how you say that. The 88 USSR team beat a USA colllege team by 6. How then are they better than any USA team since 92? Better than 94? Better than 96? Better than 08? Better than 12? I don't think so. Seriously,I think the USSR team from this time with a healthy Sabonis would have been a good NBA team but beating an NBA all star team is a different question.
