- One of the most well made coming-of-age movies in Bollywood, 'Wake Up Sid', (2009) is directed by Ayan Mukherjee and produced by Karan Johar. This story revolves around a young Sid Mehra who is figuring life after college - walking away from his family, away from all the indulgence and into the lap of reality. In the song "Iktara", Sid does many small things for Aisha in the spirit of friendship/love. Konkana is seen weighing Ranbir higher than Rahul Khanna while she understands the dynamics of love. This chartbuster song features Kavita Seth's voice, and the music is directed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

When Ranbir did this film in 2009, he was a totally newcomer acting opposite to Konkona Sen Sharma who at that time has been already 9 year in the industry with two film fare awards. Ranabir acting so naturally opposite Konkona, nobody could say he was a newcomer. He justified his role in the film. It actually does not matter how anyone gets a role, the person has to actually act and prove his or her capacity.
Remember, Bullshit can take you to the top but cannot keep you over there. Ranbir is a good actor, which is why he is still there.

Yesterday i was came back in my hostel after 15 days, finishing the family function (brothers wedding). My whole family was there. & today I am feeling very Lonely. Then I remember this song, & come hear it just so relaxing.
Aisha actually espoused all the values that really define feminism. She arrived in a city which was her dream but one which she was a stranger to, for pursuing her goal of becoming a writer and being independent. She didn't hesitate taking her friend in when he sought refuge with her, uncaring about societal norms and perceptions. She practiced the true essence of equality by sharing her chores with Sid and teaching him to assume responsibility, including cleaning up after himself. She wasn't afraid of putting her foot down when her boss tried to impose his tastes on her. She chose whom she wanted to be with, the one who she fell in love with and expressed her love for him sans any hesitation at the end. Aisha was a real feminist in the truest sense of the word. Today's so-called feminists like Swara Bhaskar and Neha Dhupia have reduced the whole idea of feminism to only vibrators and multiple boyfriends.

Konkana's Aisha in Wake up Sid is a character I have never seen in a Bollywood film.The way she smiles,looks,speaks and carries herself ,everything told us what kind of a person she is. Don't know if this is how konkana is in real life but if not,she is really very convincing and a great actor.

One of the best things the makers did was that they kept Sid and Aisha's romance platonic. There was a very strong chemistry present between their characters without there being a single lip-lock or sex scene. The emotional intimacy between Sid and Aisha was very strong throughout the course of the film. There certainly was sexual tension between them, but sexual tension needn't necessarily always translate to sexual desire. It was more in the context of the emotional intimacy that Sid and Aisha shared, especially considering the fact that Sid always felt a strong attraction towards Aisha and always looked up to her and respected her, constantly seeking validation from her. And Aisha ultimately too discreetly started reciprocating Sid's feelings for her. The platonic nature of their relationship is what helped retain the sweet and innocent essence of the movie. Hands down, Sid and Aisha are one of the best jodis in Bollywood. The unconventionality of the pair is what made it so interesting. And loved.

Basically, this film shows that not only do polar opposites attract but can also have an incredible impact on each other's life and bring out the best in each other. Also, sometimes it's a total outsider who can come into your life, make you re-evaluate it, make you explore your most innate emotions, passions and desires and realize your calling. Aisha was the catalyst for Sid to take control of his life, assume responsibility, learn to clean up after himself, bring some semblance of order into his life and also realize the potential of his hobby as a profession. Aisha on her part, learnt from Sid that life is always enjoyed to the utmost extent while living in the moment and that the pursuit of goals shouldn't distract you from these simple joys.
In Aisha, Sid saw his inspiration to shape his life and chart a course. In Sid, Aisha saw the childlike glee in enjoying the journey along the course to attain a goal. Both imbibed each other's qualities to a great extent and discovered how much they actually had in common despite their different approaches to life. How they gelled so well despite the glaring differences in their personalities and attitudes. Mumbai became the metaphor for Aisha and Sid's deep love for each other as they began viewing their lives and their city in a completely new light after spending so much time together and nurturing a deep attraction for each other without probably even realizing it. The first rains at the end of the movie finally cemented their blossoming romance and they expressed the intense love they felt for each other.
A great film with some great and inventive writing. This film will always be close to my heart and soul.

This song is crazy!! There's a weird chemistry between these two... I'm not sure... but it's like a teenager having a crush on someone older than him/her. Insanely romantic, class acting, by Konkona and Ranbir. One of my all time favorites... take me back to my college days for sure.
