Michael Lehmann on DOCTOR STRANGELOVE

- Insanity reigns in Stanley Kubrick’s absurdist adaptation of Peter George’s no-nonsense cold war thriller, Red Alert, as the earth spirals toward destruction thanks to the twisted scheme of a deranged Air Force General. Fortunately it’s a very funny spiral with a (literally) lunatic cast that boasts George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden and Peter Sellers (essaying three roles including the title character). Slim Pickens (in a role intended for Sellers) plays a gonzo cowpoke who contributes to one of the most astonishing finales in movie history.

Love this movie! One of the best dark comedies ever made.
The "Peace is our profession" sign in the background of the shooting... So many little things..
I always thought the special effects on this picture look really good. I know the B-52 is a plastic model in front of a moving matte but it still looks great. The sequence involving close-ups of the instrument panel that outputs the targeting instructions and the booklet with secret codes is done extremely well and have never been done any better, even in pictures like "Crimson Tide".
Anyone ever notice that the war room table and circular light looks like the concentric vapor ring of a nuclear detonation. By no means an accident by Ken Adams.
The trailer is so overwhelming I can't hear Lehmann underneath it.
I wonder if this awesome and unique trailer caused any siezures.
Thank you Mr Lehman for referring to this audience as "Savvy" , makes us feel really good about this channel :)
Trailers From Hell people, as you already know, the volume of the trailers in your videos is quite often a bit high. Maybe it's just me, but I was trying to focus on what Mr. Lehmann was saying in this one. Please, try to take care of it in the future. We don't need to listen to what the people in these trailers are saying, it's the commentary that matters.
Every time I see this film, I get more out of it.
It's on the bluray and it's a pie fight. AND it you see it you would see how it would have ruined the film. Love this movie. I go back and forth about whether this or the Godfather is my favorite all time film.
If I can help, the Godfather is clearly your favorite. Carry on.
My favorite movie of all time
great movie as is the movie being there also with Peter sellers
The best of the three bomb Russia pictures in 1964 following Fail-Safe and Seven Days in May.
Who doesn't love Dr. Strangelove?
I've run into a fair number of people who don't like it because "they can't relate to the Cold War".
I just consider them people who don't understand what Stanley was going for.
It was originally written as a suspense drama until they hired Peter Sellers and decided to do it as a comedy
I would love
To see this
Movie on
DVD next
Time.
Horrible trailer but otherwise, "Gentlemen, there is NO fighting in the war room!"
The story is ludicrous.
He fixes the cable?
