    Thanks; this was very helpful. I may try one of the filters and see how it works in a more light-polluted area.

    I've pondered about night sky filters for a while. This helps! I'm now going to pick some up. Thanks!

    I went to school in Silver City...yeeears ago. I wish I had gotten into photography back then, but the cost of film would have crippled me. I miss the Gila (and the food...I hope Jalisco's is still open). It's great seeing your videos. I just subscribed, so I'll be looking for new ones as they come out.

    Good one! Thank you for this video 👍 I live in a class 4 zone here in switzerland… very diffucult to get nice shoots 🥺 big thanks 🤗

      You bet man, I'm glad you liked the video! I definitely don't take where I live for granted, especially for dark skies!

    You should check if the filters actually allows you to retain more detail on faint clouds on the milky way where the light pollution would overwhelm them. I don't know which kind of filter is this, but if it has a defined light length cut down to reduce sodium lights this should be the case

      I do want to try it for some longer tracking shots, I just haven't gotten around to taking the time to deal with the telescope and tracking mounts lately.

    I’m not a photographer, so I might not get all the intricacies of your art - but I love your work! Watching your process is interesting too. 👍

    I just got into stacking calibration frames. I would recommend it

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah, it makes a difference. I do it for my personal work all the time. I just don't always do it for a lot of these videos.

  • @henrytemd
    @henrytemd Před 3 lety +1

    Filter, yes! It would be nice if our cities could decrease (eliminate?) their light pollution. Flora, fauna, and night/astrophotographers would appreciate it. Nice shots, by the way!

      I definitely agree. I light pollution is underrated and is becoming an increasing problem for the natural world.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  Před 3 lety +1

      I've thought about it, and while I'm sure there are a fair amount of my regular audience who would enjoy that, it doesn't really fit in for the channel stuff you know. Maybe for a Q and A video or something. :)

    Astro is amazing, but to me sleep is more important lol Reasons I dont do astro. My 50 f1.8 is the best I have. I thought about giving my rf24-105 f4 on the R6 a chance. I dont have a quality photo editing tool. Have to drive way too far to get away from light pollution. Maybe one day.Thx for sharing your great shots.

    Hi Brett I’m interested in getting an Astro lens for my R5. Do you get any barrel distortion with the samyang 14mm?
    Also is there a f1.8 or f1.4 lenses?

    • @jimeiden9561

      Brent dang auto correct

    • @jimeiden9561

      I rented a sigma 14mm and it really distorted the barn I was lighting up in fire ground.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  Před 3 lety +2

      Yeah, all super wides have a lot of distortion, especially at the edges. If you have something that you don't want to look super weird in the image, I'd just try to keep it off the the edges and recompose it more toward the center.

    Hey brent, I know you know about cameras and lenses so wanted to ask u which lens is better for bokeh, Canon ef 100mm f2.8L Macro is usm lens or canon ef 70-200 f2.8L is lll usm?
    Edit : i am noob at lenses sorry...

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  Před 3 lety +1

      It depends. There's a difference between the amount of bokeh and the quality of the bokeh. Both of those lenses are really good, though I haven't used the mk iii version of the 70-200, so I couldn't say anything about that one. The longer the focal length, the more compression you'll get, especially at the same apertures and same distance from the subject.

    Last August I purchased and paid for a drop-in pollution filter to use in my ef/rf adapter to use with my Sigma 14mm on my Canon R6. What a great idea.
    Problem is that I still haven’t received it. I’ve called them several times and they BS me saying that it’s shipping really soon. This wasn’t a Kickstarter purchase. They’ve pissed me off to say the least. Very poor business practice.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  Před 3 lety

      Oh bummer! I'm sorry to hear that. I know it's been hard for a lot of the smaller companies this past year, though I'm not defending them as I don't work for them at all and don't know the whole situation. I hope you get it resolved.

    Some of you may not realize this, but the warranty isnt worth the paper its wrote on. I bought 3 of their filters because of the warranty. The last one I bought was the night sky filter. Less than 2 years after buying it, the coating was cracking everywhere on the lens. Figured this wasnt a big deal since I thought it had such a great warranty. Turns out the warranty is only on the frame! I was told by customer service that the coating isnt covered under warranty. Send it in with MORE money and they will put a new glass in it. Horrible company and will never purchase or promote their crap again. If you need a filter, buy from a reputable company. NOT THIS ONE

  • @kavorka8855
    @kavorka8855 Před rokem

    In "the middle of nowhere" you still thought "there's going to be light pollution" and said to yourself, what the heck, I'm going to test a light pollution filter and tell others if it was worth it? Phew! What is it that you're thinking with, you strange people?!
