YAY this makes me feel like I'm not alone!!! It's a great hobby and you also see nature in a different way if you go picking up in the forest. Once I saw baby rabbits nesting in a whole in the ground, it felt so satisfying cleaning up their environment.
I started doing this about 6 months ago. I clean up in my townhome community and a street that leads to an apartment complex. I find it rewarding, but it can be frustrating when the litter returns. I used to feel a bit embarrassed doing this, until I realized the people who trash our beautiful country are the ones that should be ashamed of themselves.
Every time I go for a walk in the neighborhood or a hike in the woods, I pick up trash. I get a sense of satisfaction from beautifying the area and improving our environment.
Hi I do it too!!! I have been picking up litter over the years also. It's great to know I'm not the only person who considers picking up trash a hobby!!!
I thought I was one of the few weirdos who did this, but turns out I'm not alone! Even David Sedaris does it?! I think I have found my people. Thank you. 🙂
I do it too but I get paid for it. I do landscaping for a major university and litter pickup is just one of many tasks we do. I try to go above and beyond as much as possible and not neglect picking up small pieces of trash like a bottle cap for example and I even venture into the woods and up in bushes to pick up trash if its fairly accessible and even venture slightly onto city owned property to pick up trash because cars drive through it and the wind picks it up, etc. It's a never ending battle and you're never going to get all of it but we try to keep it to a minimum so that people aren't seeing piles of trash everytime they go through campus and so that less trash makes its way into the river
I have always picked up trash as long as i can remember. It just feels good to pick up trash and leave the area cleaner and prettier. I cant walk without stopping to pick things up. I moved into an apartment and behind the dumpster is a nature preserve area. Because of the dumpster, trash was everywhere and buried into the ground from being there so long. I cleaned up a whole area. Lots more to do. People do look at you like you are crazy sometimes.
This video is fucking amazing. Ive only picked up trash one time in my neighborhood and i was really nervous about what people would think when they see a random girl picking up trash. This made me rethink about doing it again. Thank you for inspiring me and keep up the good work! The filming and voice over was fantastic :)
I used to think like that them I realised how nuts it is to be worried about being hated on for doing something good. Who cares what those types of people think. Good people will appreciate it. And so will God or nature or karma whatever your superstition. Haters gonna hate, ainters gonna aint. And haters stay at the bottom looking for people to drag down to keep them company. F em.
I've started cleaning up trash in my local neighborhood. I've only done it four times but each time, there's been less and less trash. I don't know if it's me, other people cleaning, or the wind but either way I'm happy
West coaster here: I am so pleased to see your video. I live near a school and I can’t stand to see the kiddos walk past the filth all the time.. I feel a little awkward, and hope no one thinks I’m crazy- I’m a gloved up bag walker and I need to change to a bucket. But I think it’d go quicker with a bucket and picker? Thanks for the inspiration. Well done. We make a difference. 👍🏼🇺🇸
Additionally, I feel so passionate about cleaning, trash, communities, and am feeling stuck in my working role. I have 0 ideas what to do! I’d love any suggestions from anyone. Best.
I started doing this when I'm walking my dog. I too picked it up (pun intended) from listening to sedaris audiobook. Keeping the hood clean reduces potential crime.
I have been picking up litter ever since I can remember (I am 56 years old). I can remember giving my aunt hell for littering a candy bar wrapper when I was 5 or 6. I hope I inspire other people to pick up litter too. Or at least inspire them not to litter in the first place. It does take a certain amount of bravery to be different and do something about the litter that so many people just pass by. Occasionally you can make a little money too. I save the aluminum cans to cash in. I occasionally find cash and winning lottery tickets also. Always check cigarette packs, sometimes they have cash in them.
I do landscaping for a major university and litter pickup is one of the tasks we do. I'd never do it for free but it is gratifying seeing an area mostly free of trash when you're done
Suggestion to others: wear a yellow or orange safety vest for greater visibility if you are walking near a road. Good video, I do this myself sometimes. Good exercise.
It makes me feel bad but I like doing good things purely because of how it makes me feel. I feel like I'm 10x better than people who don't do it and it's kinda gross but I love the rush. Donating money to plant trees or pick up trash, using apps like Ecosia and Treecard, donating rice through little games, and picking up trash are my favorites
I'm doing the same thing in Chicago. I picked up all the litter along Madison and Michigan Avenue. The biggest thing I noticed is that the litter I picked up had been there a long time. So, once it's picked up, the sidewalks and streets stayed clean for a long time. In fact, week after week, there has been almost no litter. And litter attracts litter, and clean attracts clean. See what I mean? If there's a little garbage, over time there will be a lot of garbage. But if people see that it's clean, they'll keep it clean... and maybe pick up some extra litter, too. Another interesting thing is that after I picked up the litter, the number of people, tourists, and Chicagoans greatly increased. At the intersection of Michigan and Upper Wacker, no one could sit on the concrete benches because of all the trash. After I picked it up, lots of people began gathering. And the bicycle rickshaw businesses arrived and got customers. I think it would take very little effort to clean up lots of places. We should start with areas where there are lots of people, because we want tourism dollars and happy citizens.
I do this all the time now. There was a lot of litter around my front lawn and neighbors. So, I decided to start cleaning up, and now green speaks and shines every time you see our lawns. I plan to clean the other streets and will only continue to expand once I get a truck.
I just bought a grabber and it came in the mail. I wanted to start doing it in my neighborhood because to me if we can’t take care of what we have then why do we deserve more. The other side of it is if you grow up seeing trash everywhere you will grow up thinking that’s how you have to live. I’m from Oregon and hope I can make a difference like you’re in your community
Thank you for making this a legitimate thing. Right now I am staying in a hotel in pa. A very nice hotel I might add. I walk the parking lot almost every day. The woods around it are covered with trash. Bottles and cans. I want to clean it up. Maybe I will now that I hAve seen this video
Thank you so much for all the hard work you do picking up garbage ! I have been picking up trash around the city I live in , in Oregon. I find the act of picking up trash to be rewarding and satisfying as well. Keep up the great work. Cheers !
I ordered orfeld I can't wait until it comes in the mail I'm a stroke survivor so I just want something to get my steps in I love pretty big apartment complex I'm looking forward to making a difference it seemed relaxing just watching you do that video you're making a big impact I'm planning on doing like a half an hour a day just to get my steps and stuff and there's a lot of people around here I like the litter what a shame but it'll give me something to do
It makes me happy to know there are people with similar passions as me. Even though I'm all the way across the world we connect with our hobby. I hope you're doing alright and that you're still pursuing your passion!
I thought I was alone. I live in Atlanta GA and I pick up trash everyday. I usually focus on plastic that is on streets and near drainages so it doesn't end up in rivers and the ocean.
Great vid! I also started picking up trash due to pandemic, but I do it in the woods (as in the pandemic times you could go there without a mask in my country). It is really gratifying when you find some weird or old stuff in the middle of the forest (ie. plastic bottle which content expired in 2012 or a bag full of meds) and you just get it where it should be. It is great to see what you do in your block and that there are many other people involved ;)
i’m relatively young and environmentally courageous. On my was to school theirs this one street where’s there is trash on the ground. I just want to do something about it but it’s the stigma that stops me every time. i also don’t have equipment and my dad doesn’t like the idea of me picking up trash. i’m just feel stuck because i know what i want to do is good, the only problem is that i can’t do it. i’m hoping next spring i could do something since it’s getting colder everyday.
I love this video getting the word out on picking up garbage, but I have a couple points. 1) I've never once bothered with a grabber. A pair of rubber gloves will do you just fine. 2) You probably don't need to bother with a bucket. 9 times out of 10, I spot a plastic shopping bag that works great for holding trash. It's using trash to hold more trash.
My parents were weirded out when I asked them if I could get a trash grabber. They kept asking me why and I just felt embarrassed to explain why for some reason. Thankful I showed/sent them this video. I hope they understand once they see it and accept it. 🐿️❄️💯
Thanks for sharing this. May I ask, when you encounter something like a plastic or glass bottle, or aluminum can, do you specifically sort it out? I was just curious because I used to do something similar, but my goal was different because I was specifically searching for recyclables. Anyway, I like this idea of doing something better for a block by collecting any litter and putting it in a better place.
I think I'm gonna do this. The place I live has gone kinda ghetto the last few years and a parking lot is just covered in trash and broken glass and all manner of shit. I'm gonna go there and shift it back towards something nice if just a bit.
Hi how did you manage to get the footage on 0:26 with the camera on the trash picker? Can you please inform me of the mount you choose. I would really really appriciate it thanks
Hello Trash , so good to see you joining us ,been picking this for years and I’m totally addicted, living in Brighton England . We have the local council support volunteers here supplying us with quality grabbers , bags and bag hoops it’s a great network . I have to say it’s kept my mental health in check and I’m getting my daily walk , as I have a very stressful day job and home life . Keep on picking 😎 www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/jobs/volunteering/volunteer-tidy-team

it is such a great feeling :)

Weirdos are the ones that drop trash not people who remove it.

I’ve done this for years but I’ve got a very strong will I don’t care what anybody thinks because I like litter picking .
I've started cleaning up trash in my local neighborhood. I've only done it four times but each time, there's been less and less trash. I don't know if it's me, other people cleaning, or the wind but either way I'm happy
Man, I love you. The earth loves you. All of humanity loves you, they just don't know it.
It's something I deeply desire to do. I love seeing clean streets and want to contribute.

I am tempted to buy a grabber, I murdered my back and legs last time I went out 🥲

Awesome. I pick up trash off the beach in Thailand where I live, and turn it into "art." Well, decor, anyway. You're right; it's very satisfying.

Great video! I've done the same for years and recently started a non-profit to encourage others to clean up as well.
You're not alone! I also do this! Saddens me how much people litter wonderful natural spaces.
Cleaning up the trash in your neighborhood is like casting a spell of positive energy on the land
This is a growing movement! Love it!
Happy to see I’m not alone in this hobby.
same! :)
Good Too know I am not the only one that enjoys it.....Funny
Username checks out.

Well constructed + informative video!
You are my people. The grabber makes it so much better.
Ya gotta have a grabber.
Good video! Thank you for helping to make the world a better place.

I'm on Gatlinburg TN Smoky Mountains Park and I'm always asking people on my CZcams channel to help pick up.. thank you!!
I love everything about this
I thought I was alone. I live in Atlanta GA and I pick up trash everyday. I usually focus on plastic that is on streets and near drainages so it doesn't end up in rivers and the ocean.

Yes, keep it up guys! 💪💪

It can be a little awkward to do it at first but you get over it quickly!
I cleaned my whole street and some parts of other streets :D
I'm thinking about doing this in my town.
You should!
love this
you are awesome !!
Penny grabbing - technology is incredible.
My dream for retirement is to move to the beach and walk every day picking up trash. But I am doing it now to practice.
I agree!
I pick up trash in my neighborhood and was also inspired by David Sedaris!
Rwanda apparently has this nationally

Awesome video!! What attachment are you using to mount your go pro to the reacher?? Any info would be super appreciated!
I just gaff tapped it to the grabber 😂
I love how you weren’t afraid to use a couple swear words in this such calming video
I think I'm gonna do this. The place I live has gone kinda ghetto the last few years and a parking lot is just covered in trash and broken glass and all manner of shit. I'm gonna go there and shift it back towards something nice if just a bit.
Great! May I ask where do you put the rubbish once your bucket is full?
I usually dump it in public trash cans on the street or in the bins at my apartment building.
I'll do that today I've done it meny times
Same
Hi how did you manage to get the footage on 0:26 with the camera on the trash picker? Can you please inform me of the mount you choose. I would really really appriciate it thanks
It's just held on by tape 😂
What kind of camera are you using?
What camera did you use at 0:25 ? How did you mount it?
A GoPro that I just taped to the grabber.
I wanna do this so bad 😭
You should!
@@deanpeterson_ i might soo :D
@@denissehernandez4788 I did, it feels SOO GOOD AND its actually a good dang excercise and u can make lots of friends =)
Picking up trash with gloves is also good right?
I think it can be! As long as you’re careful and avoid anything sharp.
Everyone needs to help clean the city or state who cares what ppl think I do it
Add me to the list of people who do this too.
What about plastic gloves
I just wear rubber dipped work gloves and try to avoid touching anything nasty.
Anyone can do this anywhere.
