    Somnus: “When I first touched the crystal, first put on the crown, I knew… that the daemons could not be allowed to rule… that a sinner could NEVER SIT THE THRONE!”
    Ardyn: “Lies, fairytales, and fallacies, ALL OF IT!”

      I ADORED Darin de Pauls performance throughout FFXV but in Episode Ardyn he really gave it his all. Bone chilling performance!

    Ardyn vs Somnus, a battle between two brothers who were used by the gods.
    The song is really conveying the way history changed for these two, as Somnus, the traitor king is remembered as the hero chosen by the gods, and ardyn as the monster tainted by the starscourge.
    The angelic chorus at the end drives the point that even when ardyn achieves his vengeance, it has been a millenia since he was left in the darkness, and even if Somnus regrets his choices, the damage is irreversible.

      I also really love that the song changes between Ardyn's and Somnus' theme back and forth, as if the leitmotifs were fighting as well. I love this track so much and it's a shame that it never got a proper release 😭

    Ardyn is one of my favorite FF antagonists. He just oozes charm and Darin de Paul makes you love to hate him. A couple versions of his theme also give me Kefka vibes, (the antagonist of FF6 and boss that Dancing Mad plays for). He really feels like SE paying homage to Kefka.

    I love this breakdown as it reminds me of when 15 came out and I did a musical presentation on leitmotifs as my final project, but man I wish I could've done some of the dlc music! (ps pls do more 15 music if you haven't done them I'd recommend Ardyn 1-4 or even just Stand your ground)

    This song makes me cry when I listen to it. No idea why, but it brings back memories of all the time I spent playing FF15. All the time I spent with the characters, all the anticipation for new content, and how everything about the game (from its story to its development) is so terribly tragic. This song feels like the game saying goodbye to me, and it kinda hurts.

    More FFXV, awesome! Also one of my favorite battle themes from the game. Without spoiling too much: Episode Ardyn is a story DLC about FFXVs antagonist that tells how he became the villain of the main game and how fate and the gods had used and wronged him.
    About the Boss Theme:
    It plays during one of the most emotionally packed passages of the episode - and probably the whole game FFXV overall.
    It utilizes quite a few leitmotifs, here are those I've heard:
    - Encelevenemus (the first choir buildup, although the text is different here)
    - Ardyns theme
    - Somnus
    It's also worth noting that the Choir-esque vocals you heard are not only a motif used throughout the episode, but are also a musical representation of the woman you see on the right side of the thumbnail. She's a key character in Ardyns development and, let's just say, was met with a very cruel fate.

  • @ovan1148
    @ovan1148 Před 2 lety +53

    Just looking at Episode Ardyn makes me so salty. It was setting up for a whole new direction for the story that felt like it was going to really tie everything together, only for all the follow up content to be canceled, on the game's anniversary no less. FFXV is the definition of lost potential.

      Yeah i tried replaying it but it just felt so empty. I got too apathetic. I have to say the first playthrough was pretty good story wise though. They did a good job making you care about the gang.

    • @roguescorner9042
      @roguescorner9042 Před rokem +4

      I heard rumors that it was because of the cost of those DLCs. From the looks of it, they were planning to make big scale battles and stuff, which would've resulted in a loss.
      Too much money and effort put into some DLCs not enough people would've bought. Mostly everyone was over and done with FFXV at that point.
      But hey, at least they weren't entirely lost. Those DLCs live on through the Dawn of the Future book.

      False.
      Mateus Palamecia conquered Heaven and Hell. Didn't last long, but he did. Cloud of Darkness has won an innumerable amount of time in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Kefka didn't win. His true goal was exclaimed in the quote before the final battle. Venat and Vayne, were the only true wins. They wanted to bring the age of man, and did so. Caius is thought to have won, but his state in 13-3 shows he didn't.

    • @LightKeyDarkBlade
      @LightKeyDarkBlade Před 2 lety

      @@c.a.honeycutt5046 You might be right. I think Iwasaki only worked on the main theme, at least according to the ending credits. Hiramatsu is indeed credited as the main composer, though I don't know if there might be other unnamed composers/arrangers in the credits, or that composers like Yoshitaka Suzuki or Yoshino Aoki returned for this DLC (I don't think it's Suzuki, not sure about Aoki).

    This one is actually a song I don't know from the game itself, but I listened to it as a song only.
    I actually don't like the story of FFXV, it seemed very unfinished when the game came out. Also you had to buy many story DLCs or the royal edition if you wanted to experience the whole story, the base full price game didn't give you all of it. And I just didn't like the way that game was changed during development. But still, the music is great and interesting.

    • @sildrex
      @sildrex Před 2 lety +6

      like an hour into the game the day I got it, I got to the point where they tell story by just switching to clips from the Kingsglaive prequel movie that come out a few months prior to the game and I just had this awful sinking reaction of "oh no, this game isn't finished huh?"
      I had a blast playing FFXV and ultimately came out liking it but man oh man is it a giant collection of wasted potential. They more or less succeeded story-wise when it came to the relationships between your core party but apparently that came at the cost of... well pretty much every other aspect of the story which was all spectacularly undercooked or straight up missing.
      Kinda sad we never got to see the weird romeo/juliet mafia drama plotline that was clearly what Nomura was going for when he was at the helm but at the same time that man almost turned the game into a musical after seeing Les Mis so it's probably for the best he got shifted elsewhere.
      That all said, the music cannot be faulted with this game. they did an amazing job with the soundtrack.

      @sipherous6362 Před 2 lety +3

      The game was super super ambitious honestly. I think all the dlcs, the movie, the anime and the companion book were all supposed to be in the game as well as comrades which would lead to different outcomes based on how u played and lead to different endings. If u read the book that tells the stories of episode, lunafreya aranea and noctis you learn Bahamut is the final villain and he manipulated ardyn, noctis and lungreay into bringing about the destruction of the world so he may wipe the slate clean and remake it in his image. I believe the origional game ending is the neutral ending where peace is brought but at the cost of the characters loves, the bad ending would be bahamut succeeding and the best ending being the finale of episode noctis where he and ardyn team up by having ardyn die and killing bahamit in the astral relm while noctis kills bahamit in the physical relm to restore balance and take away the rule of gods which ardyn wanted to do in episode ardyn but wasnt able to do due to bahamut and his brothers interference
