  • In the Philippines, Romblon is known for its marble production, beautiful white beaches and clear blue waters. But unknown to many, even the locals, its best-kept secret lies in the ocean. Hundreds of scuba divers and underwater macro photographers have gone to this quiet island in search of the tiniest creatures they can find. Getting here is not so easy as I myself have traveled almost 18 hours from Manila!
This would be my second time to dive Romblon. My previous trip with my friend, Jem, was cut short and I didn’t see the nudibranchs (sea slugs) I wanted to see that time around. Yes, you read that right, I was going to Romblon for sea slugs! Specifically the butterfly nudibranch (Cyerce nigra)!
I had upgraded my camera recently and thought I'd be able to get better photos this time around but I've completely forgotten and underestimated how tiny the nudibranchs and other creatures are in the area! Everything was 1cm or smaller and if it was bigger than 1 cm, that's already big in Romblon standards! :D
I'm so glad that I finally got to see the butterfly nudibranch of Romblon on this trip. Not just Cyerce nigra but also a Cyerce bourbonica! I also enjoyed observing the the ghost / phantom nudibranch (Melibe coleman) another rare nudibranch found in Romblon.
If you like super tiny critters then Romblon is the place to go! I am sure to be back once I've upgraded my gear and have improved on my photography and videography skills!
Although this trip was amazing the state of the reef left me sad. I hope when I come back someday the reef isn't as polluted and bleached!
Check out my Romblon Trash Haul video if you want to see the "ugly side" of the reef during this trip. • Trash and Coral Bleach...

Lovely! I was diving in GOD Consciousness when I was visiting the Philippine Islands at the age of 21 for three months, to be blessed with Divine healing time with the Psychic surgeons there, as it is written in the Bible that Jesus healed with his pure God-given hands, and even raised Lazaruth Daughter from Death! And here I am 45 years later, still in the same wonder if Waves of Love in Healing!
