Ian really woke up one day and was like “I want to make sonic and friends go through absolute hell” that’s the whole metal virus arc in a nutshell. Sonic and friends go through it and that’s it.
It didn't seem like you're aware, so I thought I'd let you know. One of the annuals (I think 2020) was set during this arc and told a number of stories about the fallout of the metal virus that filled in some blanks. One is about how Jewel got infected, one is about how Vector and Espio retrieved zombot Charmy, one is set a bit before the Metal Virus where we see Starline's first hints of falling out with Eggman, and one is nearly completely without dialogue and focuses on Metal Sonic. But the main and longest story in the annual tells the story of how Big and Froggy became infected. And it's genuinely heartbreaking. You should check it out.
Cream actually was able to use the Spin Dash in "Sonic Advance 2", which is the game in which she made her debut in, and I also liked how her ears are able to stick out in her ball form just like in the exact same manner of Tails with his own two tails sticking out in his ball form.
The Metal Virus arc was what really got me invested into the IDW Comics. Everything from the art to the writing to the overall plot was great. Flynn even managed to make Zavok and the Deadly Six of all characters interesting. Obviously, the comic is not perfect and is heavily regulated by SEGA (especially compared to the late Archie Comics), but it still manages to tell great and compelling stories. And in my opinion, it only gets better from here. One of my favorite characters from this arc has to be Gemerl. It’s great to see him live on in the comics after Advance 3. His interactions with Cream are really great; whether it be protecting her or staying by her side until she was better.
Same! This was one of my favourite Sonic comics of all time. The stakes actually feel high, there's pressure, Eggman gets betrayed and everyone is portrayed so epically
lets all agree that, no matter how crazy it gets, IDW sonic comics can be full of surprises, even though archie is older, the metal virus, scrapnik island, and many more IDW sonic stories go nuts (like super mecha sonic)
My favorite part of this arc was the annual mini-story “reflections”, I love that this gives metal sonic more characterization than just eggman robot in the shape of sonic. The mini story seems to show that metal finally figures out that he will, and never will be, the real Sonic
I've always craved a darker Sonic story. I grew up with the bleak hopelessness of SATam and the countless grim .EXE stories but I always wanted something official. The Metal Virus arc was so thrilling and dark, and I love it so much. I'd love to get my hands on these comics one day, but this video will do. Awesome work to you and your editor!
I could imagine that a localized and stable version that turns only one organism and can't infect anything else would essentially be this version's robotization. As for Shadow getting infected, I'm kind of surprised they didn't try to play with that given that he has immortal alien DNA and whatnot. Like, why not mutate into a super robot zombie that starts to command other zombies and we get Emperor Robot Zombie Shadow or something.
@@FantasticSamtasticIn Sonic 3 & Knuckles , when you play as Knuckles whose story is an epilogue to the main Sonic & Tails campaign , the final boss is Mecha Sonic who survived the fight against Sonic and in the second phase of the battle of Knuckles VS Mecha Sonic , Mecha Sonic uses the Master Emerald to go Super .
Can we just consider that Game!Eggman has for one time, almost succese at destroy the world with something HE creat, not by some mcguffins he found or some one-off entities he wanted to control? And that Sonic was few seconds away from total defeat? I just wanted to says that when Eggman can be scary and creat some dangerous things like the others things he created later in the comics just by himself make me wish we could see that version of Eggman in the games instead of just be a bumbling harmless baddy we had for over 10 years. I make to hear Mike Pollock be scary.
I would give so much to hear Mike Pollock read some of Eggman's darker dialogue from the comics lol. The comics have always done such a good job at really illustrating that he's a force to be reckoned with
Really enjoyed this video!! Aaa it was so nice to listen to during work. 💖 you make learning about the comics so fun

Haha that's basically it and I love it for that reason
I heard he thought up the metal virus arc during his time with Archie sonic
It was also based on the metal skin from Sonic Heroes
I think they did this whole arc WAAAY too early in the run..,
@@Glitchedpixel5Jesus, that long ago, I wonder if anything really changed from then
I find it really sweet that egg man fuse himself as a father figure to metal sonic

Thanks! I'll have to look into that

This Eggman is very similar to Flynn's pre reboot Archie Eggman. And that is how I love my Robotnik !

A lot of the sonic characters call Sonic out for letting Eggman live, but do they attempt to follow through on trying to kill him after this arc?
Easier to talk the talk than walk the walk
@@FantasticSamtastic I bet sonic ended up in the sol dimension aka blazes dimension

So …. Why didn’t sonic and silver just go super with the master emerald? I refuse to believe they couldn’t
it would be kinda busted if they could.

From what i remember in this comic they didn't do it because of risk of angel island falling

But Eggaman has won before. He won in the intro to Sonic Unleashed. Against Super Sonic no less.
