  • In this video, home renovation brothers, Dave and Rich show you a review of the Echo ES255 Shred N Vac. This machine is actually 3 tools in one. You can Vacuum, Shred and Blow Leaves.
    We have been renovating a massive 6,000 square foot lake house that has tons of trees. On a lake the winds blow constantly, usually at 30 mph or more. What is great about this tool is that you can vacuum the leaves. When we use a backpack blower to put the leaves into a massive pile the leaves just get blown by the wind. So having the vacuum feature is great.
    Also, the tool has 4 blades that shred/mulch the leaves, which is awesome.
    The issue is that the collection bag is small and we have to change it often.
    Also, the vacuum is so intense that it grabs mulch and sticks and we sometimes have to clean out the shredder because it gets clogged.
    The blower is nice, claims to blow leaves at 190 mph!!!
    Overall we like this device.
    Hope this helps!

    I love the way you explained everything as you went along. Most videos skip over crucial parts of using the tool...I think your video convinced me!...Thanks for the step by step!

    No need to unplug the spark plug when clearing out the vac fan, it can not start with the fan door open because there’s a safety switch activated to protect you when the vac tube us removed. There is also no spark from the ignition to the spark plug when the motor is not rotating nor is there any fuel being drawn up the tube to supply the carb. It can not run and is perfectly safe to work on.

    after a few tanks of fuel are run thru it, if you hold the throttle wide open for approx. 15-20 seconds you will notice the engine pick up about 3000 more rpm's, that will double the blowing power.

      I used the Echo ES255 this week to clear my parents' leaves. They have a forest of oak trees in their back yard, so the powerful blower was great to get the huge amount of wet leaves on the tarp.

    I love the idea of vacuuming the leaves for my compost pile. The link listed is for a hose washer and hose cart. Could you please include the link for this item? Thanks!!

      Hi Lori, our link posting guy has been overworked, maybe we should give him a day off. We couldn't find the Echo ES255 model used in this video on Amazon, but they did have the ES250 model, which looks very close to the ES255, and that link is now available. Thanks for your comment!

    Assuming this wouldn't work very well with acorns? I am looking for a vacuum as I have so many oaks and acorns in my yard. Thoughts? Thank you.

      Hey Ulysses,
      Get question. Never tried it. I would think you’d want a wide narrow attachment to speed the process.

    Would this bad for walnuts? I have to walnut trees but was curious if the walnuts would ruin it.

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Pat, we have many huge mulched beds at the lake house that we manage. If we use the vacuum feature it will suck up the mulch and clog it. The solution for us is to use the blower feature to move all the leaves off of the mulch.
      We aren't sure if it would be powerful enough to pick up walnuts. If it did, you could have a problem. It would probably be best to blow the leaves from the walnut tree area, then you could vacuum them. If you get this Echo ES255, let us know how you like it. Hope this helps!

    I have this shred n vac, and have had it for 4 yrs or so. My biggest complaint is the constant carb tunning adjust with a tiny screwdriver tool. You have to adjust at least once every 4 hours! I wish there was a more long-term way to fix the adjuster screw. I think adjuster screw roates out of tune due to the vibration of the motor.

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Joel, we haven't experienced having to constantly reset the adjuster screw. Maybe you could add a washer to help lock it in. Hope you will find a solution!

      Hi WikedDF, we have had this Echo shredder/blower for over 3 years and it still works great. We do property management at a huge lake house property and it is awesome for blowing the leaves off the driveway and back deck. We would still recommend it, thanks for the questions!

    Is the blade metal. Also, the Stihl unit I own, has a metal blade, but the fan under it is plastic. This plastic piece can where out.

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi David, yes, the blade is metal. Works great, no problems so far, but we have only used it for 2 seasons, so hopefully it will be durable. Thanks for your comment!

    the only difference between the es 250 and the es 255 is the latter has the I-30 reduced effort starting option.

    The 255 seems to not meet emissions in 2020 cause I can't find one for sale. 250 exist still and I think I'll pick that up over the stihl 86. People seem to like the echo and I haven't heard many good things from the sh86.

      Hi J M, we maintain a large rental property that has a massive back deck. This deck is in a heavily wooded area and constantly gets covered with leaves and twigs. This Echo's blower is fantastic for clearing the deck off fast. We like it. Let us know what you end up buying and what you think of it. Hope you will be happy with it!

    I wonder why we have forest fires he dumps all of the leaves on the other side of this wall instead of disposing of them in his green bin LOL if only I could dump my loads over the neighbors gate as a landscaper
