- Yes yes! In today's drum lesson, we are using dotted 8th note metric modulations like Robert Glasper to change tempo or feel! The 2 tracks we are taking influence from are R+R=NOW - Resting Warrior and Gretchen Parlato - Blue In Green! Get the grooves down and then use the concepts to create your own ideas and make something original!
This notation is available as part of my ‘Modern Jazz and Fusion Notation Pack’ e-book. In this notation pack, you will find a total of 59 groove notations from drummers and artists playing in Modern Jazz, Fusion and related styles!

100% mate, so much crazy theory going on behind the scenes in these tracks 🤯 thanks for watching! Alex 👊
im supposed to start some metric modulation theory at berklee in a few months. I can conceptualize and play it on drums but when it's written as "dotted quarter = quarter" and stuff like that on sheet music it messes me up. This kinda cleared it up and gave me a head start on my class and couldn't be more perfectly timed so thanks!!
That’s sick mate, stoked to hear it! Yeah the way it’s written is so confusing haha! Good luck at berklee, living the dream! Alex 👊
Bro you are the best teacher ever. Cheers!
🌞
Great info. Thanks for sharing, much appreciated.
Stoked you got something from it mate! Alex 👊
When you changed the accents from every three notes to every four notes something just clicked in my brain - very illuminating! ^^
So sick mate, the same happened to me when I found that out! Alex 👊
My friend 1000 bravo!!!!You are amazing drummer!!!!!!What a fantastic lesson!!!!I love your hi hat!!!!Please tell mewhich exact k hi hat is this!!!Thank you!!!!
Thanks mate! They are 15” k lights! Alex 👊
Hell yeah! Only tipped my toe in on this subject, maybe I can get a foot in now haha 😂 and JP…absolute legend!
Yes mate! Super fun concept for sure! Ah yeah man, only took 1 lesson with him but it was great- he’s a beast! Alex 👊
It would have been great to get examples with the backing track of how you go in and out of the two feels and some ideas to transition (besides the example playing the accents on the snare)
Yo brother Yussef Dayes released a new fire track called Tioga Pass in that song at 6:15 he starts a crazy sounding beat, for months now i have been checking out live versions and it sounds even crazier live and still I can not seem to figure out what he is doing, I know this is a big favor to ask for but is it possible for you to make a video explaining that beat it or somethin?
Hey mate, sick groove for sure! I’m gonna do it for you because you asked with so much respect my dude! Hopefullllly have time to write it out today and film it tomorrow! Alex 👊
@@DrumHubTuition bless🙏🙏
Damn, you're great! Absolute precision but still all the groove! You should be a mandatory sub for anyone who wants to spice up their drumming.
Thanks mate, appreciate the words! Thanks for watching! Alex 👊
