      Sir I always found women attractive. Everytime but on day when I was mastrubating I don't know why my mind gave me thought of a boy and then mastrubated . And after that I am under great stress and have these intrusive thought everytime. So is this the sign of ocd .

      Thanks I have HOCD and it used to be what happens if your lesbian and I got rid of that now it's what if your bi and I'm still going through that and whenever I don't have anxiouty but I try to tell myself it's nothing my mind is like omg your agreeing then I'm back to stage one this is scarying me

      @@logicss2893 you may say so...but obviously this is not a good option. Just "accept" being a monster and "feel" this monster . I think eventually we can find our comfortable place to live with

      Hey, there. So I saw your comment and my heart reached out to you, and I couldn't help but share with you what has worked for me, and perhaps it can work for you. I used to feel so guilty, too, about the evil thoughts that would come into my mind. I couldn't explain why they were coming so I almost convinced myself that I was an evil person, when in retrospect, I wasn't at all. I used to think, "Are all these my own personal thoughts?" This war ran in my mind until I came across this one truth. All the bad thoughts that popped in my mind that I thought were evil sins are ALL forgiven by my creator Jesus Christ! He died on the cross and (later came back to life) by doing so endured the punishment for all of my sins including sins in my mind. So this means I never have to feel guilty ever again! Even if all of the evil thoughts that ever entered my mind were all my own, it would not matter because they are all forgiven by Jesus regardless. If we accept Jesus Christ, God looks at me and you as sinless and righteous, because even as the bad thoughts come in my mind, they have already been forgiven. Every time an evil thought entered my mind I said, "I won't feel guilty because I am forgiven." It took some time getting used to thinking and feeling differently, but after a while, I got drastically better. I know this was a really long message, but the point is you don't ever have to feel guilty again because of Jesus' love for you that will never change!

I do believe in God and have asked for guidance, but it is just something that didn't work for me. I'm really, really, really sorry you had to go through that. I really am. I'm very glad to hear you are getting better and have found a way to get better. I wish you the best, and hopefully one day I can find a way to get better too.

    I was almost tearing up while watching this because what you said at the beginning of the video hit right at home. As an OCD sufferer, I can’t help but to research solutions when my anxiety hit its peak. I’m glad I found this video, as it was super informative and beneficial.     Hey anyone reading I just wanted to put this comment out there as I don’t usually comment on videos. OCD is horrific and so incredibly hellish, if you’re going through some bad times just know it will get better. Coming from somebody who had been suffering silently for 2 years over the pandemic, seeking help is your 2nd step for recovery as the 1st for me at least was finding out I had OCD and look where we are, well done 😂.The reasoning behind my OCD was because of the pandemic, whilst also my sister was diagnosed with anorexia at the very start, but she’s now recovering after 2 years thank god. Whatever you’re going through has absolutely nothing to do with you and is just OCD reflecting your deepest fears. Don’t give into the compulsions and don’t feed the thought any of your time. After being on medication for about 3 months I have noticed a significant lift in mood and just a more positive outlook on life. Please just know that it WILL get SO much better as life is to short to be worried away.

      I agree with you. It is a horrible mental disease that took years from my life. I’m 51. So all this new ways of treating it were not there. I will say at 21 years old I was put on Prozac and it saved my life

    My treatment has been so hard, I'm 17 and my Dad isn't involved or aware I'm getting help because he doesn't support therapy. Doing this alone is so hard, doing exposures alone for therapy homework is a catastrophe haha

      @@chelzyramirez3663 I've been dealing my symptoms/disorder for about a year and a half. They came on suddenly about 6 months after I left a traumatic situation, and they were very severe. I've been in therapy and doing this alone for almost a year exactly.

    Very good tips. What helps me with my OCD prob. the most is sitting with the anxiety, which is also very painful but worth it in the end.

      I have what I call emotion spirals where I just can’t shake strong feelings of guilt and anxiety. So instead of trying to avoid it, I invite it in. I “sit vigil with it” so to speak. I try to journal what I’m feeling, do some yoga, cry a bit and remind myself that the wave will eventually pass, even if it takes a day. I am just starting to explore if OCD is some thing I might have, I just kind of developed this practice on my own, but I’m glad to hear that it’s not as weird of a practice as I thought!

    I've decided to write all of these steps down so it will be easier for me and the others to remember them.All of that is super helpful. Personally I really wasn't sure about step 4 but seems like it's working. Thanks :))
    #1 Always expect the unexpected
    #2 Be willing to accept the risk
    #3 Never seek reassurance from yourself or others
    #4 Always try hard to agree with all intrusive thoughts without much details
    #5 Don't prevent thoughts
    #6 Try not to be an all or nothing thinker - making mistakes is normal
    #7 Dealing with your symptoms is your responsibility
    #8 Don't get too impatient
    #9 When you have a choice always go toward anxiety
    #10 When faced with two possible choices - choose the more difficult
    #11 Review your therapy assignments daily
    #12 Speak up - let your therapist know if you think you are not ready
    #13 Don't wait for the perfect moment to start your therapy/assignments
    #14 Don't be perfect
    #15 Start your day off right
    #16 Don't give yourself reassurence while doing your homework
    #17 Give your homework your full atention
    #18 Think positively about challenges
    #19 Don't rush exposures
    #20 Tell therapist your step is too easy
    #21 Trust in the treatment
    #22 Never forget that you have OCD
    #23 The problem is not the anxiety - it's the compulsions
    #24 Be proud of yourself
    #25 OCD doesn't make sense - Move closer to the anxiety

      @@rajanarasimhan I have some questions also I've been doing this with tiny setbacks like the rituals I've for the most part let it go and now all I have is anxiety from the ocd thoughts but I'm not doing anything to calm myself down I'm just riding out the anxiety I even agreed with the ocd thoughts which made the anxiety 10x worse and now it's causing stress I feel like the not getting reassurance thing is working because I don't have the urge to do the rituals to calm myself down anymore and if I find myself doing them out of habit I stop doing it it does feel nice that I've stopped doing the rituals and nothing bad happens but the ocd thoughts are still there and now I feel like I dont have anything to grab onto for help it's been days with nothing but anxiety and stress my head hurts my body feels stuck at times I know for a fact this gave me depression but I'll work on that latter for now I'm riding this anxiety out I mean it can't last forever I don't even think the rituals can get rid of the anxiety and fear now so I'm not even gonna don't them anymore wait I'm actually feeling better a sense of hope like I know my family is gonna be safe it's gonna be OK wow I'm feeling this as I type rn I feel like a huge weight is slowly lifting off me I can breathe I love u all God Bless

    Two years ago OCD started to take a toil on me. I was 21 back then and a very different person. Looking back it seems like I have most definitely been suffering from OCD my whole life. It was just that OCD found a very sneaky and scary way to get to me. And from then on I seem to unlock a new fear every new year. It is almost like the themes seem to exponentially become scarier and harder to handle. This year in January I had no idea that the next two months would be horrible. I was crying my eyes out each night and hating myself. Three months later and I finally know what I am dealing with. I am so glad I dared to do some research read articles and see a professional. However, even with help it is really hard sometimes. You just want it to disappear. I have bad days and videos like these really help.

    Hi there, I am 26 and i had OCD since I was 8. I found it really feels like "normal" if I accept those thought. The more "open" of my mind to "outside" , the more relaxing i feel. I feel like i am doing well to handle this situation.

      You are right, the thoughts do not have to be scary. Like anything scary, they are only scary at first, and the more you run away. The dark is only scary until you sit in it for a bit, and after a while, you realize it isn't so scary afterall. Same with the thoughts. Good stuff, man. Discovering this kind of stuff is a sign of strong self-awareness, which is the the only shield against any demon, including OCD :)

    Good morning, your videos have truly changed my life. I am still trying to find a good therapist but through your videos workshops it’s not as hard anymore. I had a few weeks of feeling so much better but last night it hit me again and I had a night mare based on my fear. It made me feel back at the bottom it also made me forget all my tools and watching this has reminded me of them thank you so much for this. 💕

    Wow this has left me in tears. Happy tears. I’m actually glad to know I’ve been doing things backwards so I can now March forward the right way. What got me in tears though was the ending, “ocd doesn’t make sense and it doesn’t have to” great video, thank you for these tips.

    WOW this video helped me immensely. Especially the "Avoid safe places and non-safe places", and "Accept the risk", and "Don't seek reassurance", all of which I do so that I don't have to deal with the anxiety that comes with OCD thoughts. I will not do these things anymore. I will work on myself. I am currently getting treatment with NOCD and my therapist is wonderful. I feel so grateful and so blessed to know you guys exist. THANK YOU FOR THIS AND FOR ALL YOU DO

    I’m crying right now as after I was watching it. I don’t feel lonely and being alone anymore. It feels like a hand show up pull me up when I’m in the quicksand right now.

    I’ve been ocd diagnose for 10 years. It was so bad then I got better and now it came back to me severely nearly 1 month ago after a shock in feelings. I have ocd and anxiety complex with lots of ocd symptoms

    Would you be able to do a video touching on when your passions become your obsessions? One of my passions is home organization and interior design but It has become an obsessive passion. My initial thought would be cut out interior design completely, but then I'm cutting out something that I loved and still love, but ocd has mucked up the waters for me and it's hard to pursue any of my passions or creative hobbies anymore without me obsessing over them trying to make them perfect. And lack of having hobbies/interests/passions=depression and that's where I've been for years, kind of stuck between a rock and hard place.

    I want to say (as you probably heard so many times before) that this channel is one of the best things you could do.
    The fact that there is a concentrated, passionate, good will youtube channel that provides such information, is a game changer for many people for sure.
    I would also want to emphasis that in OCD, visiting a good, professional doctor and getting a correct prescription of SSRI's can be truly life changing.
    I know that it's not your role as a psychologist, but I would definitely make a video that explains the importance of that + the possible hard phases when starting / transitioning to a new medication. This can also be life saving.

      I've did 1 compulsion today about saying I'm straight to rinsure myself and all that and now my mind is just trying to get me to say it and I hate it kinda I don't hate it but it hasn't made it any better

      You too! My ocd is pretty out of control at the moment and is latching on to everything. To a point where I’m just wanting to sleep all the time. When I tell myself the thoughts are true etc, I find this is quite compulsive (turns into a compulsion) and I feel bad or guilty if I don’t do it. Any suggestions?

    Omg I was procrastinatong my ocd therapy prep homework which was to read some papers he had given me.. I had gotten through half and it was making me anxious so I stopped...       @@vksharma3730It’s okay, OCD has many forms. My sister is more compulsive, but I’m more like what you’re describing, lots of thoughts but not so compulsive.

    Here's my story when I started watching ur videos: I had OCD but I couldn't figure it out for sometime. I wondered what was wrong with me but when I figured out I had OCD everything came together. One day I was wondering how to get rid of it like FOREVER I found out this thing on Google while doing research obsession to compulsion to relief then to obsession again I figured out that was what was wrong with me because anytime I thought I forgot it, it came back stronger so I decided to help myself with a video I saw so many videos the ones I clicked weren't my type like I love interesting videos with humour so I clicked on ur video was just giving me the vibes as I watched it I felt calm I couldn't think of that OCD obsession and when it did want me to think of it I followed some of ur tips or I just forgot. I felt calm and when watching the video I actually felt treated if OCD although it came back after the video I followed ur tips. Thank you for being so amazing

    I suffered from severe obsessive compulsive disorder 2016 to June 2021. Changing my mind, how I lived my life, watching helpful CZcams videos, reading books about OCC, refocusing on my happiness, doing something important helped me. I'm good and healed now. I didn't discover this channel until this year.
    For people struggling with OCD you can heal and recover. You can overcome OCD. It takes time, will power, discipline, hope, a consistent plan, and taking action. I never thought I would be good again. And I'm good now.

    Thanks for another excellent professional video and thanks to Dr Penzel for his tips! I'm sure I could rewatch this again in a month and different tips would stick out to me as very relevant depending on the moment.
    Something that's really difficult is when the person with OCD feels they want reassurance or relief and that doing a compulsion or getting reassurance will be the only way to reduce the anxiety they feel. As a partner, I'm trying hard to understand what it must be like. Your video helped explain how OCD "doesn't make sense" 😅

    I'm the kind of person who probably has ocd, but when they decide to get help, they think that they're in the wrong place, or that they dont actually have a problem, they just need to do x, y, or z. I've managed to "convince" myself that I have ocd and i need to go to a therapist, but when they call to set up an appointment, I've convinced myself that I dont have it.

      I do the same! Mine is so debilitating to the point that I can’t work anymore, and yet when my therapy appointments finally roll around, I’m completely convinced that I’m over-exaggerating and don’t really need help. I’m sure that’s some kind of obsession in itself.

      an easily excited fear system in the mind.. easily triggered/pinged asking for reaction by releasing stress hormones. Even with small trivial things that dont induce stress in others. You get put on the wrong track sortasay by the initial reaction to 'it' ocd has many forms... but id guess all of them start with an initial worry, a fear...a bit of anxiety to which you do 'something' (compulse) to make it better/bearable/to fix it etc... and then you are in the ocd cycle. Where the obsession keeps pinging you and act out your compulsion to make it better and round we go.

    I am 51 and I’ve suffered from OCD from as long as I can remember. I think this is great and I wish people would just realize mental illnesses are just the same is physical but you just can’t see it. I don’t know if I would be able to get past my anxiety without getting the reassurance I need. I know that’s what they say works etc. but mine gets so bad I feel like I would do anything even if I knew I was humiliating myself I would do anything and then as soon as I do whatever I have to do, or I call person that’s going to say something to reassure me instantly takes away the anxiety. I give you credit so much. What I’ve been doing I’ve been helping me lately it’s just avoiding my triggers and I don’t care if I have to stay in the house forever and I know that’s not the right way, but I have kids. I enjoy them, I’m doing better bless you

    I was told by my therapist that I had the tendency of OCD so she told me to consult it with my Psychiatrist and he told me to feel the anxiety and be ok with it just don’t act (compulsion) ,I tried my best and I thought I became ok. but after that something happened that made me doubt myself a lot more and it worsen. But I weren’t able to go to therapy and also to my psychiatrist for a long time. When I get back to therapy she suggested to me to see my psychiatrist again but I said no for now.
    Lately I’m starting to get worse again and I doubt it too if Its OCD or its just me. But my family is getting worried of me and I am not being able to treat them the way they deserve.That is why next week I am thinking of seeing my psychiatrist and I feel like I do need help now….

      The main goal is to stop the compulsions and teach the brain that you're no longer putting value to it. Some choose to postpone compulsions working up to stoping them completely. If ignoring the thoughts is on purpose so you don't have to deal with the anxiety or fear, it could be considered a compulsion. Sometimes just letting the thoughts be without the typical response you may give is a great way to retrain the brain.

    OCD is a terrible disorder, my thoughts take my energy which takes my motivation . They infiltrate every relationship, I agree completely with analyzing the thought as if it’s neutral, but being okay with the thought makes it pile onto many more compulsive questions which eventually turns into a story . You said “we do not use logic … it just doesn’t work” well that is keeping someone in a temporary state of gratification. Saying that means that it’ll stop working when there logic starts working . Which makes sense, cause a lot of the people i know with OCD that’s got a lot of therapy are always in a imaginative/ floating state like everything’s just okay . Then once a day once they realized they agreed with all the terrible things in there head, they lash out terribly. The terrible questions they agree with doesn’t always feel right excepting when they’re ego isn’t in the right state to handle it. YOU CAN STOP THOUGHTS ITS CALLED MEDITATION!!!! THEY WONT TELL U THAT THO BECAUSE MEDITATION CANT BE PROMOTED AND SOLD

    My thoughts are saying that because I do/did/will do something I am a bad/lousy person and should. feel guilty. With agreeing with a thought I'm saying that I am that person. And I wonder if I won't create these beliefs in a long run.

    I haven’t been diagnosed with ocd but I feel like it’s something that really pertains to me. The intrusive thoughts I get have gotten so bad I start to question my character, beliefs, and morals. To question it makes it feel so real, like I want to give in to the awful thought and urge my brain is telling me to. However, after watching this video, learning to “love” the thought your having lessens the amount of anxiety that comes with the thought. Allowing your brain to continue to ruminate over the thought and make you think that this thought is truly what you want, is where most of the anxiety comes from. So when you allow yourself to love this thought and only stay positive of the thought, you lessen the amount of questioning and go along with the positive thinking. Just know that you’re going to get past this no matter how impossible the feeling is!!

    Listening to this I realize I've become so sneaky at avoiding the task I'm supposed to do to actually get better. Like "Yeah I can't do ERP today because I have a thing later where I want to be happy and not anxious" or "I'll do ERP for this less scary fear instead of my current obsession" or "I just got over an anxious phase, I don't want to risk triggering one again".
    There's always gonna be another thing. Another excuse. Another reason why I can't face my fear right now. But I can. I have to if I want to get better.
