    Latest Gossip.
    1: The undercarriage hydraulic ram was fitted upside down causing the fault.
    2: The pilot is called Dave William.
    3: The daughter of the pilot was onboard.
    4: Pilot bounced the aircraft to drop the undercarriage.
    5: The WLG door snagged on one of the undercarriage wheels.
    6: Nine Tyre safety fuses blew on landing.
    7: The passengers weren't allowed to use the toilets for 3hrs, while the pilot carried out maneuvers to dislodge the undercarriage.

    No one seems to have commented here but the flight crew landed the plane without either of the starboard engines touching the ground whilst landing: now that is highly skilled! I believe that they skew the aircraft to the right just after landing to push the weight to the port side, thereby lifting the starboard wing, saving a potential risk of damage to the engines and possible fire.

    • @Wonkabar007
      @Wonkabar007  Před 8 lety +12

      I heard the passengers wanted to get off quick, but the crew had to get people out in a special order, to keep the aircraft balanced, because they were worried the aircraft might tip onto that engine.

    • @Maloy7800
      @Maloy7800 Před 8 lety +10

      +Henry Page The reason why no one seems to have commented about it is because there is nothing to comment about. The aircraft has four main landing gear. It's not like an A320 or a similar aircraft lost one "leg". I'd even go as far as to say that the crew is not particularly skilled. Or clever. Look at how hard they hit the tarmac. The reason they stayed upright and didn't roll over in flames should probably be proclaimed as a miracle in the nearest place of religious worship.

    • @HenryPage
      @HenryPage Před 8 lety +10

      +patentsvnc that is also my understanding and not only did the pilot-in-control do that but he also avoided potential damage to the starboard engine by shifting the plane's attitude to the left, thereby preventing the engine striking the runway during landing!

      It's interesting that they try to do that. I would think that the added impact, stress on - and possible damage to - the remaining undercarriage would make that a risky proposition in terms of preserving the aircraft's integrity. They can obviously land without the starboard gear, so why wouldn't they just ease down to protect the aircraft and address the mechanical situation on the ground?

    Flight International reports that a landing gear hydraulic actuator weighing 87 Kg was installed upside-down. Hydraulic fluid was lost after gear retraction. The alternative gear extension procedure was used but there was no damping force. Consequently the gear fell too quickly and jammed against its door.
    The design of the actuator made it possible to install it the wrong way round - the maintenance engineers did not follow the correct procedures.
    An inquiry has recommended that Boeing modify the component to stop it happening again.

We have an automatic switch to pull gear down, in case that not work, we can still push oil manually , in that case, the lower right gear, had just ( for what I see, first time to be honest ) a leak in the pipes , reason of what , the gear didn't crush, and , for who don't know that, we are responsible of the life of all the passengers aboard and their family!!!!! While the landing procedure start, even if the toilet door doesn't close perfectly, I will lunch the status of emergency landing!!!!! *_The aircraft departed from London Gatwick Airport for a scheduled flight to Las Vegas. Following retraction of the landing gear after takeoff, low quantity and pressure warnings occurred on hydraulic system 4, due to a hydraulic fluid leak. The required checklists were completed and the aircraft returned to land at London Gatwick Airport. As the landing gear extended during the approach, the right wing landing gear struck the gear door, preventing the gear leg from fully deploying. The crew carried out a go-around and, following a period of troubleshooting and associated preparation, a non-normal landing was successfully completed. It was subsequently determined that the hydraulic retract actuator on the right wing landing gear had been incorrectly installed. Four Safety Recommendations have been made_*

They came in a little low and tore one of the landing gears off of a test 747-100 and it stopped safely then the repaired it and put it into airlines standards(i.e. seats bins etc.) Then delivered it to the airline customer. The 747 is a great airplane and its true you can never make a bad landing in the Queen of the skies. Its sad to see a legend slowly die thou.

    nice flying,nice landing but typical of our British authorities.send everything with a flashing lights,shut airport down,declare UK equivalent of defcon 4 and drag the whole incident out for as long as possible so health and safety knob heads can go in and make sure that the grass besides the runway doesn't have any loose blades that could be sucked into engine.nice landing though with no wing/engine scraping.

    This is the first time I've seen this footage. It's remarkable. The heavy landing, I don't quite understand. The starboard engines are very close to the ground.

    Wonder if they moved all remaining fuel to that left wing to try and compensate for the right side gear not dropping.

    @AndyJay15 Před 9 lety

    Quite a heavy landing and quite lucky seeming that one remaining gear would have had the weight of two sets on that one side. Good job to the pilot though in not letting the plane tip. Those engines must be at most half a metre off the runway?

  • @mohamedalsahaf3472
    @mohamedalsahaf3472 Před 8 lety

    its probably because the engine on the left was not working properly which cause the right wing to drop because there is not enough force on the left engine

    t pilots with planes that fly themselves these days are only needed for Take off and landing and im very happy they are there, fantastic landing by that pilot

    i remember when that 747 400 flew at about 500 feet over my car when i was 8 now im 9. my family were confused same as me,a few hours later we realised it was doing an emergency landing at gatwick (EKK )

    Nice bounce on landing. I am surprised that the plane held together. How much training did this pilot have 8 hours. One guy said a bonus for this crew more like a write up.

      Jeez - why not comment on something you know something about, I dunno, maybe 'self-abuse'?! He had a non-deployed undercarriage on the right wing, that's a non-trivial bit of flying, getting the plane on the ground but keeping the right wing and engines off the runway.

      Troll is obvious but I'll still explain. That's what is called positive contact, certain circumstances quantify for such as to know you are down. None of this messing around trying to get a greaser and then wasting time. So Troll, now you've read it kindly disappear.
