That's Martin Fry doing Eden' s voice. They ran it through a Vocoder type device to do that. When the woman who was playing Eden found out about it, she was pissed.
Was on a school field trip to Sea World. Someone brought a boom box and was jammin this. Pre internet so it was a bitch ta find after the fact..... So glad I did....P.S.... @jliscorpio That wasn't Eden...that was Martin saying that and being audio treated to a higher pitch....true fact! And since Fiona Russell Powell (Eden) wasn't in the studio to provide her voice... no royalties are paid to her for this song.
Where on Wiki? I am reading the info on the album and it states she does voices and some instruments. Fiona Russell-Powell, also known as Eden - vocals and record scratching
I once danced to this song in the 80's by myself on the dance floor with everybody clapping and cheering me on. I was on every drug offered to me. I partied harder and longer than everybody else. I had fun! I still take drugs but the ones prescribed to me by the doctor to repair all the damage I did to myself during those days. I am now 50, live with Mom, disabled, jobless and crap in a colostomy bag because of rectal trauma from the wild sex I had. Would I do it all again? IDK.
This was a strange era for ABC, that music was still hot but the band went weird. The real band at the time, Martin, Mark and session players... Eden and David were there for cosmetic purposes only. They didn't tour or sing and in fact only appeared in 3 videos and one of those was animated. I heard Eden (Fiona Russell Powell) was very hurt by their treatment. Shame. This was ABC at their most fun, yet UP still remains my favorite!
Yea... Fiona has said that although she was amused by the comment, apparently she and Dave were not very nicely treated during their tenure in the band.
I remember hearing on the radio...."The Quake" in San Francisco 1985 era to be exact, that the record company recalled 300,000 albums because of that comment and FCC threats. You know..."kiss my snatch" and re released with a much milder tone. I wonder how much the "Uncensored" Original album is worth?/??
@ricswapdx ah for the days of the city nightclub after a quick bite at the metro then the stroll up to the city to dance the night away then the inevitable after party at quality pie and that poor waitress everyone put thru hell. Ah memories
Actually: it's been reliably documented that it's not Eden that said that immortal 'snatch' line. In fact, it's none other than Martin Fry! Look it up peeps.
To clarify - yes, Fiona Russell-Powell was using the stage name "Eden" at this point, but the infamous "snatch" line was actually spoken by Martin Fry (Fiona was not in the studio at the time)

Mad groove. I had this on a 45 a hundred million years ago. I told my wife about the snatch thing, she didn't believe me. Until I showed her. Cranked.

This is such a sick track. Haven’t heard it since I was about 13!
To me, this song and album nails 1985!
I love the background vocals screamed in British accents: "Eye! By! Sigh!"
Never fails to amaze how simple this music sounds almost 30 years on, as a lad it was the bestest, but still damn good fun!!!!
I had this on the "Be Near Me" single!!! Had completely forgotten about it until tonight. WOW.

Is it my imagination or do the US pressing of the album have Eden's line about her snatch edited out?
Some version do this, once they realized what Eden meant.
Incidentally, I've heard that Eden's "voice" is actually Martin Fry sounding feminine.
