I planted alternately 200teak+200 silver oak in the border at 4 ft apart..in yr2000 in my 5 acre farm.
I sold silver oak for 4 lakhs in 2010
Now I have 180 teak tree at 8 ft apart. I will cut all teak that have lesser girth in 2 yrs from now and use for my own purpose or sell them. I will keep only 50trees for another 10yrs..
My uncle sold 8trees of 30yrs age for 5.5 lakhs last yr. There were 2 trees that had 6ft girth in the border of the farm.
For good teak yield, you should plant in the border alone and do normal farming in the plot like grow paddy, banana, sugarcane which are water intensive crops. Teak recieving nutrition and good water, good red loamy soil, will grow very fast with good oil content and girth.

Farmer is right. By 25years even with normal care it will have a diameter of 3ft.20ft length tree will give15 cft only, insitu price is rs 2000per cft. Maximum 2lakhs only after 25years st 20ft spacing. If care is not given it will be less. Our land has

Spacing should be 25*25. Teak require more space sir. I have planted one teak tree for 8 years it grown like anything.

Namma karavali kade adike gida 9×9 haktivi...adike ge gellu/kombe galu illa.. straight maragalu... so 10×10 sagvani marakke tumba kammi jaaga aaitu.. belavanige aagalla.. maragalu dappa aagalla
In karavali side, we plant arecanut trees 9×9 spacing. They are straight going trees without branches.. so with branches these trees planted in 10×10 spacing is itself wrong .. they won't grow

People promote Agro forestry? and those money mongers will only be interested in selling the sampling and make money without providing them proper guidance and now everyone is providing expert advises.. Guys, this man has lost money due to lack of awareness..
Teak will give you returns only if you follow the rules below
1. Plant in the border or full plot at 6 feet apart so that they grow straight..
2. Cut alternate in 13 yr, and increase spacing for each plant to 12 feet. The ones that you cut gives no money or less money.
3. Cut alternate after 24 yrs, increase spacing to 24ft. This will give you a 30inch girth, you make some money..
4. The remaining trees after 36 yrs, or 32yrs will gain girth of 62inches or more.. This less no of trees will give you good money.
Farmers think that more no of trees is equal to more money..
Planting in the border alone is the best option..

I have been enquiring about procedure to sell teak tree grown in one's own private land. This is what I learnt
- apply to RFO
- wait for inspection and report
- follow up in DFO
-later file will be sent to Revenue dept
- follow up with Revenue dept
- then file goes from Revenue to Forest
- follow up in forest
- then permission may be granted to cut only aged trees. For balance the farmer has to wait for few more years or decades.
- after receiving permission to cut, the farmer has to apply for permission to transport....
Farmers are left with no other option to sell to brokers who manage all authorities are throw away price.
It us a tragedy that policy kills farmer who venture to grow tree
20000Rs/350 tree =570/tree price.... Very difficult to understand concept...

Nursery people will lie that gap should be 10x10 so that they can sell more plants and farmers think if I can plant more plants then I will get more profit always check with forest dept before planting any tree plants as to what should be the gap and not go with what nursery people say, some nursery people misuse farmer's innocence . Also, I feel this farmer was cheated by paying very less price for the trees even if size was less he could have sold them for min 2-4k per tree.

this farmer selling one tree for 500 rupee is not believable. Looks like he made some deal with some company to sell the trees to them after 25 years. If he had chance to sell outside, he can get atleast 5-10k for one tree which should be min 5000 X 400 = 2000000
